I've been hearing a lot of different things about the subscription for XIV. On one hand some are predicting that it will have an item shop and therefore free to play. Others say it will have a monthly fee.
Personally, I see it having the monthly fee. Question is, how much? Think the superior graphics will bump up the cost from XI?

Lastel or Mei told me the other day that there is a monthly free. I believe it's $12 with $3 per addition character? Not sure if I got the prices right though :

In the US its going to $12 + $3 for every extra character. Which aside from having a brother or relative living with you extra characters are really useless in this kind of game. Since you can just change your job at a whim.
They announced this at the same time as the CE of XIV for the PC, it should be on the main site.

I like the prices ^^ You never actually need to create a 2nd character unless it's for aesthetic reasons, so you'll probably only pay $12 a month... Which is cheaper then I paid for my years of WoW XD

and you get one "retainer" aka mule NPC that you design and name for free. and it's 1$ for each additional retainer.
if you think about it, 12$ for a month of play is more entertainment value than a 12$ movie at the theater.

12$ is a great price plus you get a free retainer! That sounds perfect to me.
Is anyone else looking forward to making their retainer looks as ridiculous as possible besides me?
I plan on making a beat up looking lallafell.

Well that's my idea until we learn more about retainers...or at least till I do.

And IDK what my retainer will look like iSaent >.> I haven't put much thought into it, but since I plan to play a Lalafell, *Takes a step away from iSaent* I will prolly make my retainer a Miqo'te or Elf.

Pay to Play weeds out a lot of n00bs, so it makes it really enjoyable to play. I have a hard time on any free MMO now, so much stupidity...
