 The swamp's edge wasn't somewhere Nenetl usually went. But when one hunted, it was sometimes easier out in the open grasslands, and her dusty brown coat was an advantage for it. As she dragged the carcass back towards the trees, she contemplated how she'd keep Zeru and Mzuza from crowding it too much. She let out a light sigh, pausing and sitting down, smiling. Mle had brought home such adorable cubs... It made her wonder about what sort of cubs hers would be, if she ever had any. By now, she wasn't doubting... They'd likely be Mle's cubs. She wasn't about to complain, she liked him. An ear flicked, and she looked over her shoulder, almost swearing she heard someone.

 Such odd scents coming from the deepening forest before him. Zao blinked at it, having noticed a few steps in that the dry grassland dirt gradually changed to moist soil as the forest grew thicker and became more jungle-like. He stopped not too far in, unsure and not wanting to wander too far from Kucha-moto. The other lion had taken his turn at hunting, letting the more child-like of the pair wander for a bit. The splotched green lion was always thankful when Kucha did that. He smiled widely and took a step in another direction, deciding to wander that bit instead of going deeper in. And when he poked his nose into a bush...
Birds exploded into the air, chirping and cawing and causing him to fall onto his back, making a rather loud noise of surprise. Oh dear! He hadn't meant to scare them! He wasn't looking for a meal at that point!

Watching the birds rise into the air, Nenetl looked in that direction in confusion. After a moment, she looked at the kill, then where the birds had come from. Back and forth she looked, before finding somewhere to hide it. Satisfied, she went off to find the source of the disturbance.
She found a lion that looked as green as grass. Or moss... He was green, that was the point of her thoughts. And orange.. She tilted her head, sitting down with a frown. Who was this lion, and where did they come from? Was it a rogue, someone from the pride...? "Hello!" One way to find out!

Zao took a moment to let the disorientation fade, and blinked when he heard a voice. It was a very pretty female voice, rather sing-songy. He looked to the source, carefully rolling over onto his belly, so as not to jostle his head too much before everything stopped wanting to waver.
"Ah...hello! I'm sorry if the birds startled you. I'm afraid I accidentally startled them."

The lioness smiled, letting out a light giggle. "The birds did not startle me! They only made me curious!" It wasn't every day she saw birds take off like that, after all. "You don't smell like the swamps, are you new here?" She lifted a paw, as if ready to stand and walk to him. "If you are, that's neat! I came in out of the rogue lands, too!"

The splotchy green lion nodded, smile on his muzzle. It was good she wasn't startled! He didn't much like scaring others, even on accident. "I'm from the rogue lands, yes. Did I step onto pridal lands? I'm very sorry if I did." He chuckled. "My friend Kucha is always telling me to be more careful where I put my paws."

"Oh, we're mostly nice here! You just gotta be a little more careful who you meet here, yano..." She glanced into the trees, tail swaying a bit. "We had a bad lion in here not long ago, Mle tells me..." She looked back at the other lion. "But you look too nice to hurt anyone! I'm Nenetl, who're you?"

Zao blinked, then shivered. Bad lions...oh he had experience with those. "I hope the bad lion is long gone, not able to bother anyone anymore." He shook himself, then smiled. "It is nice to meet you, Nenetl! My name's Zao!"

"Oh yes, he's long gone! Mle'tonoka says Mama'asali came to the pride and turned the bad lion into a toad!" She frowned, remembering what the white lion had told her. "And then she ate him!" The lioness sat back, nodding, then motioned with a paw. "It's good to meet you, too, Zao, you're a nice lion! Did you wanna meet the rest of the pride? I'm sure they'll like you, too!"

"A...toad? Wow. That's amazing!" What kind of lion had the ability to turn another lion into a toad?! Wow...He shook his head, embarrassed. "Oh no, that's okay. I should probably get goin' soon." He chuckled. "Not travelin' alone, y'see. Got my buddy Kucha. He tends to be too serious for his own good, silly guy. Someone's gotta teach him to stop and smell the flowers."

"Yup, a toad!" She paused, ears pricking. "Maybe you can bring Kucha with you!" Then she stopped. "He IS a lion, right...? 'Cause the Jini only like lions..." She could sort of see why. The only other large animal she could imagine traveling in the swamps was a leopard. Not that she ever SAW them.

Zao chuckled and nodded. "Yeah, Kucha's a lion. Not as cuddly as me though." He grinned. "But...I don't think he'd fit here. He doesn't do so well with moisture and all that. He's happier where it's nice and dry." He stretched. "Me...I'm lookin' for a safe place someday."

"Oh.. Well, I hope you find that happy place!" She smiled, then pricked an ear. She heard buzzards... Her carcass! "Oh, no, I left meat in the open!" She started back the way she'd come, then stopped. "It was nice meeting you, Zao! I have to go now!" She then turned, running off, roaring at the vultures pecking at her family's meal.

Zao felt guilty that he'd distracted her from dinner. "It was wonderful meeting you, Nenetl!" Once she was out of sight, Zao turned and started back towards the rogue lands. Time to meet back up with Kucha!
