I seriously hate the drummers. All they do is drum so loud when they are wrong and they try to show off and they think they are all that just because they play the drums.
Who here thinks the same?

(For this, it's regular band, not marching)
That's really wrong. Could you just stop it right there?

#1: if you're going to post something like this, don't do it where Percussionists can see it like in the brass or woodwind or whatever you are
#2: There are quite a few Percussionists on this guild
#3: We don't show off! How could we when all of us, in my band, are in the very back, so you can't even see us! Also, we don't play that loud! For ours, you can barely hear us, that's why we try to play louder, it's because our band directer is signing us that we need to!
#4: Who cares if we get stuff wrong?! That's why you do a little something called: PRACTICE! If it's in the concert, then no one's going to hurt you or do something to you if you mess up ONE NOTE! I can guarentee you've atleast missed 1 note during practice, everyone does! That's why there's a Band Director, to teach you!
#5: All that because we play the drums?! Do you know how many times people go up to us and say, "You guys are the easiest, all you have to do is hit stuff," If you've never heard it, go to the Percussion Sub-Forum and see how many Topics are about that! We have rudiments and technices too!

What instrement are you, anyways!? Why don't you not post stuff like that, k? It'll make life a whole lot easier.

so far as marching goes, i agree. our drummers play so loud before we start rehearsing, i cant even talk to someone OUTSIDE. (our band room has a door going outside, which is frequently open.)

We're sort of getting used to the drummers. Mainly because the devil was a drummer and is now a drum major. seriously, if you even sneeze while getting to practice she'll tear your head off and drink the blood. gonk (and marching starts so soon...)

Our percussion's fine, especially in marching band. Their techs are really big on discipline and such, so even though they can act pretty stupid, they have self control. They're fine in concert band, too...sounds like it's just your band that has the problem.

I understand that you're frustrated, but generalizing can make a lot of people unhappy.

ok, first off, dont diss drummers because the ones in your band suck. i am a flutist, and i LOVE the drums! maybe if you heard a good drummer, then you would change your mind. and they do NOT show off. if they are showing off, then they have the guts to do it in the first place. dont diss drummers.

if you were in my marching band you would know why they get me so angry. Our drummers are really immature and suck.
And im not saying ALL drummers, im talking about the ones that are in the same band im in. Im not saying every single drummer.
And i play keyboard percussion so i have to practice with them.

In 6th grade, our percussion was like that. Hmp.
But I'm not gonna complain, as annoying as they were they were pretty good if they tried and they made us sound good. xp

Then they're not real drummers. [:

Real drummers don't need to drum all the time, and when they do drum, are drumming to get better, not to show off. xD

I don't like how when we have rehearsals indoors, the battery is SO FREAKING LOUD YOU FEEL LIKE YOU'RE GONNA GO DEAF. Come one guys, just play a little softer when we're inside! xD I hate having to be next to them during warm-ups, too, for the same reason.

A new kid just moved across the street. It is apparent he is a percussionist, but he *sounds* like he's one of those garage band types, haha. It's just kind-of annoying that I can hear it while I'm in my own house. xD

But one of our DMs is a percussionist, and she's really cool. :] She's good, too!

You shouldn't generalize like that, OP. Remember, all generalizations are false. wink

I like perc, they work harder than anyone else in the band and they keep time for us all. It sucks when they mess up though. Or when you have to march right in front of cymbals (hearing loss) or bass drum (worrying about being hit for the whole show).

Anyway, I think they have a right to show off because they look cooler playing their instruments than anyone else. I'll never look cool playing my clarinet.

Percussionists play nonstop because we HAVE to practice nonstop to be good.
My drumline never shuts up. It annoys the crap out of everyone, even other percussionists, but they are amazing and it's worth it.

And the reason we play so loud is because either...
A: We don't realize how loud it is to everyone else.
B: As a percussionist our hearing is s**t so we have to play louder to hear ourselves over everyone else
C: If we don't play louder than everyone else we can't hear ourselves and improve what we're doing.

It's like every instructor I've ever had has said:
It's better to mess up loud than to mess up quiet.
If you mess up quiet, nobody can hear you AND nobody can help you fix it. If you mess up loud, at least you're confident in yourself and can be fixed.

Would you like me to generalize about every other instrument until I come across yours? Because I have nitpicks about every single other section. Would you honestly like me to ignorantly chastise and berate you for something that is required of the section and may be annoying to others, and may even be a personality stereotype?
Because I can.
(:

Our percussionists are all good. they may do stupid things but they're the most desciplined group in the band. They're awesome too. so in my book they just know how to have fun and get the job done.

Wasn't there a topic like this a long time ago? Like, in the percussion/guard sub-forum?

Any-who...

I know some percussionists that try to show off, but that doesn't mean all of us do. I admit, I have an issue with playing loud, too, but the entire battery does. It's usually the band that's playing too quiet.

Besides, if my music reads forte, I'm going to play loudly. And, I agree with hiogurl123 and Who is Puffer Fish.

Please don't generalize things like that. It only causes trouble.
