Trotting along, the day seemed nice. Mauja felt like a goof lingering around his cubs so much, like a strange doting father, but he kind of liked it. His little ones seemed so squishy, and he loved being in one place for awhile. This was home, and it meant so much to him to have one.
The only distressing thing in his life right now was what he was going to do about a certain sister of his. He had picked up her scent in the area recently, and knowing her, once she found him, she'd cling to him like a tiny thorn.
Not that she was annoying like a thorn.
But explaining a sibling after such a long time to Nafsi might get a bit odd. Especially since Mauja didn't think the two would get along very well, but he could be wrong.
Looking around, he spotted the tan lioness, looking as adorable as she always did. Trotting over to her, he had a slight smile on his face. "And how is my little princess today?"

It had been a rough morning for Nafsi, but she didn't know why. There was always a hot cling on her fur and she was a little aggitated. It made her tired and bland, and the heat was just wearing her down lastely - especially with all of the children.
Not that she minded the children. She adored them with every fiber of her being.
And she was determined to enjoy this day, especially with her mate so close to her again. That made her whole body glow with warmth - and not the unpleasant kind either.
Nafsi was sprawled in a batch of soft dirt, cooling her belly from the uncomfortable heat. "I'm doing wonderfully, M'love, though the heat is getting to me," she sighed a bit and smiled up at her mate and master.
He made her world turn.

"It is kind of hot, huh?" Mauja glanced up towards the sky, squinting as the sun beamed down. He never felt the heat as much, having a very slender body, the heat seemed to seep straight through him most times. "You should lie in the shade, love, if it's bothering you." With a concerned look, he laid down next to her, squishing his nose into her shoulder.
"I hope the sun isn't too hot for any of the little ones..." He glanced over, realizing that if she was hot, there was a good chance they'd be hot as well. It wasn't really a pressing feeling, as he saw most of them playing, but Mauja really just wanted to find something to do for the day.

Nafsi gave a small laugh "Cubs are resilient - I don't think they'd stop playing in any weather," Nafsi looked a bit mirthful, looking warts the abundance of cubs. She smiled fondly at them. "Perhaps the shade would be better, she agreed, but didn't move, giving a yawn instead.
Nafsi looked to her darkly colored mate and stared at him for a moment. "How have you been Mauja? It seems forever between the times you're away." Her voice was rather thick with emotion. "I've missed you..."

"Hard as rocks, those little fluffballs." Looking out at them, he felt a certain sense of calm. Mauja didn't feel the need to worry too much about his cubs, as they were so durable on their own. He only needed to worry if any of them showed any signs that they'd inherited his need for adrenaline rushes.
"I missed you, too. And this place. Or, the feeling of being home." Nuzzling her neck, his words were true. As much as he loved to roam, he loved this place more, and always thought about it. It was his homesickness that had always driven him home in the end.

Nafsi gave a chimming laugh, and a smile. "They are, silly little things," she nuzzled her mate gently, wishing desperatly that he would stay so she wouldn't have to disobey the orders of her master. In truth, she sought pain after he left, but she kept it secret - hunting accidents, attacks, or other things.
But she kept silent on the subject.
"I'm glad you're back," she murmured, breathing in her mate's scent - one that faded in her mind over the time he was gone. It came back full force, and she loved it.

"I'm glad, too." He smiled once more, looking into her green eyes. "But I'm afraid....there's some business I'll need to attend to soon." Sniffing the air, Mauja looked out at the horizon. In truth, there was always something that he should probably attend to, but he was only actually concerned with this one.
"But for now, I'm here." He grinned, knowing how hard it was on everyone when he left. He hated it, never liking the sight of sad faces at his departure. But for him, it was either go or get aggravated here at home, and he wouldn't ever allow himself to do that.
"One of these days, when all the little ones have grown, I'll take you with me." He smiled, flexing his paws in the dirt. "It's a beautiful world out there, and I'm sure it'll be even more beautiful with you by my side."

Nafsi gave him a strained smile and tried to hide the sadness in her eyes when he told her he wasn't staying again. She lowered her gaze and buried her face by his neck. She didn;t like this pain - this pain that always tore throguh her chest like a bullet and made her stomach sink and squeeze. It brought tears to her eyes.
She sighed into his neck and took comfort that he ws even there at the moment. "I know, Mauja, we just don't want you to leave, but I know I can't stop you, and I know you'll come back whenever you leave," she smile and lifted her head. "It's just so... hard sometimes."
She wondered if the cubs would ever grow up - there seemed to constantly be more, and she did love them all, but she couldn't help but wonder if that dream would ever come true - when she was old and ugly? She was already littered with dozens of pink scars with patchs of fur? How long before she was unappealing?
She buried her nose into her paws and looked up at her mate with shining green eyes.

"I really did want to stay this time, love. I just...smelled something on the way back." He looked down at her, a forlorn expression in his eyes. He had really wanted to stay with her for a long time this time, but things had to be taken care of, so this life here could remain nice and pleasant.
"Maybe I'll....maybe I'll show you what I'm talking about some day soon, okay? I just...don't want you to be surprised." Laughing a little, he couldn't help but feel a bit nervous, even now. Bringing back cubs, that was easy. Introducing a sister- that was hard. At least, he thought it would be.
"But until then, we should enjoy ourselves a little." Licking her on the forehead, he could see she was a little upset. He hated seeing her that way, but he knew that he was always the one to cause it.

Nafsi gave a small sigh. "Alright, alright," she told him shifting her paws and running her face along the length of his thinner arms. She frowned, still unhappy that he had to leave her and their children again. Her birth children practically grew up wtihout a father and she new a few were bitter with Mauja for leaving so often.
"Just please, soon... We need you here, Mauja," she told him with a slightly sad smile. She accepted his choices. Its all she could do. Its all she could ever do.
She breathed in his scent again, inhaling the familiar scent. A scent that faintly carried to all of his cubs. "Yes, we should enjoy ourselves," she nuzzled the dark-furred cheetah, erasing the bitter and sad thoughts from her mind.

"I know, love." Flicking his tail, he really didn't know how to respond. Sure, he missed being here, he missed everything about this place- but there was just something in his heart that couldn't be tamed. He only hoped that that was something Nafsi loved about him.
"Once this little....mishap is cleared up, I'll stick around for a good, long while." Smiling, he really meant it this time. He was just....careful with his words.
"So, my dear, what is it that you want most that'll make you happy right now?" Grinning, he twitched his ears. He never knew what to expect from her, and he loved that. So many other girls, he could trace their every step before they even made them.

Nafsi's eyes brightened. What would make her happy? Ther yellow-green eyes dazzled for a moment, in thought. She stretched her body and rolled up. She gave a teasing grin and lowered her head to his ear. "Catch me?"
And she ran.
There was a thrill in becoming prey, in becoming a child, in becoming free in the run before being captured by someone she trusted with her life. It would make her happy to see him catch her, and to love her.

"As you wish, princess." Eyes retaining their spunky youth, Mauja quickly rose after her, a devilish smirk on his maw. Running made him happy, and chasing after someone he loved made him even happier. And there was just something so playful in her eyes that it made him want her even more.
Stretching his legs, he wouldn't run too fast. No, he'd enjoy this for as much as it was worth. And if the chase took all day, then he'd be just as happy, because he knew she'd be there at the end of it.
