Calixte wandered slowly down the boardwalk. Two-leggers swarmed around her, some carrying barrels, some giving her a glance as she made her way dizzily down. It had been a long voyage, and she planned on never getting on a ship again.
That had been an hour ago. She could still see the sails in the distance, but tried not to look back. She was traipsing along the beach, trying not to fall over every time a wave roared up next to her. Her land legs hadn't come back yet.
Eventually, she decided that she might as well stop and rest. It was probably best to just wait for her land legs rather than try to walk into them. She lay down where the waves were weak and put her head in the sand. Sighing, she watched the waves pull back and forth. There was nothing like the ocean...

Below the waves of the shore, something glimpsed the warm sunlight on the surface of the water and decided to see what the world looked like around here. Erupting from the water came a finned equine head the color of icebergs tinted by the Aurora Borealis. Looking around with eyes almost entirely the hue of the zenith of heaven at noon, he spotted one of those landers he'd glimpsed some nights ago. Curious and determined to see one by the light of day, he swam closer.
Earlier, he'd seen one of those boat-things pass by, so this strange-looking mare had probably come from it. Come to think of it, he'd once or twice as a child seen someone like her, but not quite, and not in a long time. Now thoroughly curious, he swam closer, keeping his head only half above the water, so as not to startle her too much. Unfortunately for Gahz'rilla, this was essentially impossible for one of the fierce hydra mers.

Calixte closed her eyes. This land was so warm and agreeable. She could live here. The briny smell and sound of the waves were enough to put her to sleep...
A splash sounded loudly somewhere in front of her. Opening her eyes, she saw the head of what looked like another soquili some distance out to sea. "Hello?" she called, getting slowly and dizzily to her feet, and then deciding halfway up that it was a bad idea. Sitting back down, she called to him again. "Are you alright?"

Gahz'rilla lifted his head fully above the water, not altogether surprised that he'd been spotted. "Hello. Nyet, I em fine," he responded in his heavily accented voice as he swam closer. It was rather uncommon that the hydra mers could sneak up on anyone, though Gahz'rilla had better luck than most, due to his coloration, but it was even less common that one of the other Northerners would so boldly and fearlessly greet him. And she was a lander to boot. Definitely worth approaching and to. It made him rather regretful he was confined to the seas.
"I see you haf also just come from de North," he continued as he came close enough to talk quietly, but not close enough to be beached, always an embarrassing accident committed by very young mers. Looking at her more carefully and comparing her to the other lander mares he'd seen more often, she didn't have a mane of hair, but instead of leaves. A question for later, when he was less likely to spook her.

Calixte couldn't help but gape at the stallion as he came partially out of the water. He had fins. That was not normal. But then, she wasn't exactly normal either, so she wasn't one to judge. "Th-the North?" she stammered. "I do not know exactly where I came from - I have traveled very far. Do you know what this land is called?" she asked, eyeing the waves that were threatening to splash over her hooves.
She'd never seen anyone like him before - he looked almost like the blue sky above them. And his eyes were all one color; no white or pupils. How on earth did he see?

Gahzi cocked his head, startled. But then again, she'd been in a ship, so she probably did not know how far or where she'd traveled to. "I haf not heard vhat these lands are called, but I remember seeing Soquili like you in my homeland, in the North. I vas blown here by a storm many weeks ago. You may haf heard of my kind: the hydra mers, yes?" he asked, trying to jog her memory.
