or: It's Three O'clock in the Morning, and I'm Bored and Wide Awake

Besides, there aren't a whole lotta recent threads discussing characters or plot events. So I figured I'd rate the chances the girls have ending up with Negi. Ratings are on a scale from 1-5, 1 being least likely, 5 being most likely.
These are merely my opinions. Feel free to bring up your own views.
Spellings taken from the Student Profiles thread, except Ku Fei, because Fei Ku sounds wierd to me.
SPOILER WARNING: This post includes many spoilers. Spoilers beyond vol 8 will be in white text (assuming I remember), spoilers from vol 1-8 will not.

Sayo Aizaka: 1
Reasoning: She's dead. Besides, it seems more like she just wants some friends, especially considering how much she hangs out with Kazumi Asakura.

Yuna Akashi: 3
Reasoning: Yuna's character isn't developed very much. Most of her appearances occur alongside the other athletes when the lot of them are fawning over Negi. She did participate in the Kiss-Kiss game, which puts her slightly ahead of the other minor characters, but there's just not much to go on.

Kazumi Asakura: 1
Reasoning: This is just funny. Considering just how tangled up into the mess she is, she could easily be in a very competitive postition for Negi's affection. She's intelligent, knowldgeable, and assertive. She can be either manipulative or compassionate as she sees necessary. Plus, she's probably closer to Chamo than anyone but Negi, and Chamo has a powerful influence over the gullible little wizard. However, she appears to demonstrate no romantic interest in him whatsoever. Initially this was because she was going to expose him for a big story, but, like with Sayo, she becomes too close to her subject to exploit it.

Yue Ayase: 5. Yeah, 5.
Reasoning: Short version - When Nodoka explains why she likes Negi so much, Yue realizes how true it is, and, despite herself, starts developing feelings for him.
Long version - The first indication of the depth of Yue's feelings for Negi appear in the Kiss-Kiss game. The imposter-Negi's sudden advances ellicit a strong response, and Yue fails to reason herself out of rejecting him. It is only her anger at the perceived betrayal of trust that she rejects the imposter-Negi. Yue is incredibly analytical, and when she encounters something that doesn't fit into the realistic, rational world, the way she deals with it is to confront and overcome it. In such situations, her resolve is adamant (as demonstrated by her reaction to the wyvern guarding Nagi's clue and the dedicaton she puts into learning magic). It is her loyalty to Nodoka that just barely prevents her from acting on her feelings for Negi, and even then she begins to waver. In chapter 87, she advises Negi to proceed only slowly in his relationship with Nodoka, and is relieved when he accepts her advice, and feels guilty for this relief, because she fears she is betraying Nodoka's friendship and trust.

Ako Izumi: 3-4
Reasoning: Like the other athletes, Ako's personality isn't highly defined. There is a minor incident shortly before the tournament arc when Negi (appearing to be 15 from Chamo's pills) catches her, to her delight and confusion.

Akira Okochi: 2
Reasoning: Again, athlete, less developed personality, but what we have seen is that she is the quiet one. Unlike Nodoka, however, she isn't shy to the point of being frightened, she's just quiet, therefore she isn't being prompted by the other girls to overcome shyness and develop as a person.

Misa Kakizaki: 2-3
Reasoning: How to put this? If Madoka is the mature one, and Sakurako is the hyper one, than Misa is the normal one. If this were a more normal situation, she might would have a better chance. But it's not, so she doesn't.

Asuna Kagurazaka: 3
Reasoning: She's constantly saying she's not interested in bratty kids, and I believe her. Despite her being the first girl Negi kissed and the *ahem* unfortunate incident due to the World Tree, Asuna has a different kind of soft spot for Negi. The way she gets angry with him doesn't strike me as the kind of angry that happens in a lovers' spat. It's the kind of angry you feel at your siblings. The kind that occasionally parts long enough to see the "I'm just looking out for you because I love you" that parents or siblings have. Take the fight over the "paipan" incident. The final resolution is when she flings him into the ocean, then hugs him and apologizes. She treats him like her little brother. The only time she's really gotten flustered around Negi is when she ate the chocolates. Certain aspects of magic still can affect Asuna, like a pactio, and she herself can use magic, or could before her memory was erased.
Besides, Keitaro and Naru ended up together, right? It'd be a little dissapointing to get a repeat of Love Hina.

Misora Kasuga: 1-4
Reasoning: Umm... yeah. It get's more confusing once they start explaining why she's dressed like a nun so much. Becase they haven't finished explaining yet. She is definately interested in Negi though. She wanted to abandon the mission to rescue Takahata to see Negi's match against Albireo.

Chachamaru: 4-5
Reasoning: Robots have emotions? WTF? Hakase smells a Nobel prize. (Cop out - maybe I'll come back and edit this later).

Madoka Kugimiya: 3
Reasoning: While her more mature attitude provides an advantage over the other girls, it is balanced by a tempered, less aggressive effort to woo Negi.

Ku Fei: 1-2
Reasoning: For the most part, the closer a girl gets to Negi, the less likely she is to be romantically interested. Anyway, there's too much respect between them with the student-teacher relationship going both ways. Plus, Ku's doesn't seem very serious about much of anything, except maybe her martial arts.

Konoka Konoe: 1
Reasoning: Setsuna.

Haruna Saotome: 2
Reasoning: Firstly, she's out of the loop. It's tricky to have a good relationship with so many big secrets. Then, there's the point that she's whole-heartedly supporting Nodoka. And I don't think Negi is bishie enough for Haruna's tastes.

Setsuna Sakurazaki: 1
Reasoning: Konoka.

Makie Sasaki: 4-5
Reasoning: Well, she gets my vote for "Most likely to rape her teacher." Whereas Ayaka will attempt to seduce Negi, Makie just smothers him with love. Strangely enough, Negi is usually fairly comfortable talking to Makie. This may be partly through her well-intentioned, though poorly implemented efforts to help him train for the Eva's test (the fight against Chachamaru), or the expedition to Library Island. And although she's usually in the crowd of girls seeking to get closer to Negi, she's usually at the forefront, and she's had a couple of one-on-one chats with him, too.

Sakurako Shiina: 3-4
Reasoning: If Makie hadn't dominated the first two popularity votes, I think Sakurako would have gotten that characterization. As it is, she's relegated to the hyper cheerleader role.

Mana Tatsumiya: 1-2
Reasoning: This is a complicated one to explain. Initially, it seemed that her mercenary attitude and steeliness would be the factors preventing a friendly relationship, but after Negi bumped into her during the festival, where she was quite friendly, it seems to be more that she hasn't yet moved on from her previous love. Who'd thunkit?

Lingshen Chao: 1-3
Reasoning: Who is she and what are her goals? She's said she's a blood-relative of Negi's and an alien. Either statement is as likely to be truth as lies, and all things considered, their not mutually exclusive.

Kaede Nagase: 1-2
Reasoning: Similar to Ku Fei, there's a respect that rather precludes a romantic relationship. While Kaede does tease Negi a bit, it's hardly serious.

Chizuru Naba: 1-2
Reasoning: I think she's got kind of a motherly attitude, and while she thinks Negi is cute, she doesn't have the urge the rest of the girls do to smother Negi with affection. (It tends to happen on its own by accident razz )

Fuka Narutaki: 3-4
Reasoning: Looks and acts closest to Negi's age. She's more aggressive than Fumika, but she's also then mean one. (Evil twin!)

Fumika Narutaki: 4
Reasoning: Looks and acts closer to Negi's age than most. While it's tricky to distinguish her from from Fuka, she clearly is the gentler of the two, and for whatever reason, the paper copy of Negi that met up with the twins during the Kiss-Kiss game asked her for a kiss.

Satomi Hakase: 1
Reasoning: She's too busy being a mad scientist to do anything else. Besides, it'd get in the way of her Nobel Prize.

Chisame Hasegawa: 3-5
Reasoning: Despite her outrage at the ridiculousness of the situation of class 3-A in general and the 9-year old teacher in particular, she has begun to warm up to Negi (although this isn't as noticeable until the events of the Mahora festival). Perhaps it's his authenticity, genuine interest, and high opinion of her that's starting to win her over.

Evangeline A. K. McDowell: 1
Reasoning: She's still got the hots for his dad, and while I have my theories why, I don't feel like laying them out at the moment.
How funny would that be, Eva being Negi's step-mom?

Nodoka Miyazaki: 5
Reasoning: The obvious choice. I would spend the time laying out my reasoning, but I've been working on this post for 2 1/2 hours now, and she doesn't need that much explanation. Maybe later, when I'm more awake.

Natsumi Murakami: 1-2
Reasoning: While she's not shy, her self-esteem is virtually non-existent. It makes things tough to love someone else when you don't love yourself. However, she seems to be getting along with Kotarou quite well, despite their rather exciting first meeting.

Ayaka Yukihiro: 3-5
Reasoning: Ayaka can't seem to decide whether she wants Negi to be her future husband or her little brother. There are several occaisions during which she puts aside her romantic ambitions to help Negi with his personal troubles, the foremost example being during the vacation to the island. More recently, in chapter 120, she offers Negi all the resources available at her disposal to help him find his father after learning via Chao's tournament of the situation. And while there is the possibility that this is an effort to gain brownie points with Negi, I believe she is motivated by genuine good will.

Satsuki Yotsuba: 1
Reasoning: Yotsuba is totally different from the rest of the class. She's more mature and, like Negi, has a goal she is trying to achieve. Also like Negi, this goal takes precedence over lesser distractions, like romance. She'll still have plenty of time for that later in life.

Zazie Rainyday: 1
Reasoning: For the first 100 or so chapters, I wasn't entirely certain she wasn't mute. She's not, but her silence isn't from shyness either. It seems that she just doesn't talk much, plus, she seemed perfectly comfortable inviting Negi to her club's show during the Mahora festival. Maybe when that happens, we'll get a little more insight into her character.

^^; It's also true what Rune says. [sigh] Finals are coming up for me in school, as well as for other crew members. I'm sorry that the contest has been very delayed whee It's not over yet though!

You did a great job. I think negi and Asuna seem more like siblings than anything esle.

I can appreciate the that finals take priority, but it seems odd to me that finals would be mid-January. Spring semester is just beginning Wednesday here.

Don't ask me. The last time i had finals was in May-June of 2002 before graduation. neutral Maybe there are various school systems in the nation that don't follow the same school system as you and I. I find it strange too now that you mention it.

She seems to have a developing thing for Negi, considering that she's did explicitly try to ask him out at the festival. I suggest waiting and seeing.




You think that's worth a four? You should see what's happening on the date itself! Chapter 124 ended with her in the middle of confessing her feelings to "Nagi"

FULL STORY: Later, before the festival starts, Negi and Kotaro try out the aging pills, planning on using them to enter a tournament. Ako and Madoka see them, and Ako asks "Nagi"(Negi posing as an older cousin of himself) to see her at the concert she and the Cheerleaders are putting on at the festival(Madoka also makes a backhanded offer to Kotaro, who she thinks is a little cuter).

At the festival itself, Negi goes to see Ako before the show, and accidentially walks in on her changing, which, aside from the usual embarassment, is compounded by the huge scar across Ako's back(you can see glimpses of it in Vol. 1(when she's changing in the classroom) and Vol. 7(The big swimsuit splash page)), which she's incredibly self-consious about. Ako freaks out and runs away, crying. She eventually falls asleep, and wakes up some hours later, long after the concert was supposed to go on.

Negi(still in his older form) finds her, and offers to "cast a spell on her." He then asks her to close her eyes, and when she wakes up, it's daytime again, and she's sitting at a table outside. She thinks she dreamed the whole thing, but "Nagi" gets her attention again(yes, he used the time watch), and decides to spend some time with her, in order to keep her from running into her past self, who is still preparing for the concert. During their "Date," Ako decides that, since this may be a dream, and even if it isn't, Nagi is probably going to return to England after the festival is over, she may as well go for it and tell him how she feels about him





She also literally drools at Negi at a certain point in the tournament, and comes up with the idea of molding Negi into being the perfect boyfriend in five years, which is kinda shady, considering she already has a boyfriend.



I would say that Asuna's a 4, maybe five. The kicker is, it's not in a romantic sense. Akamatsu himself has said that the relationship between Negi and Asuna is like that of a little brother and older sister.



Four's a lttle too high, though. Misora's shown no real romantic intrest in Negi.

Ku Fei: 1-2
Reasoning: For the most part, the closer a girl gets to Negi, the less likely she is to be romantically interested. Anyway, there's too much respect between them with the student-teacher relationship going both ways. Plus, Ku's doesn't seem very serious about much of anything, except maybe her martial arts.



She's more of a 2, just on general proximity. In both a physical and emotional sense.

With Setsuna, it's rather complicated. As Konoka said herself in vol. 2, she's not looking for any romantic attachment at all. However, she likes Setsuna very much, and has been as happy as the cat that ate the canary that they're friends again. At the same time, she's also stated that she wants Sestuna to be her Ministra(possibly permenantly), and has no problem with the idea of kissing her to make the Pactio.



Ha! Neither were Misa, Ako, and a bunch of the others, until they got a good idea of what he's gonna look like when he grows up. heart



3 at least. Setsuna has openly admitted to liking Negi. She's gonna have problems later on. mrgreen



Makie's like Asuna. While she likes Negi a lot, she's also said, to herself, mind you, that she does not want Negi in any romantic sense. Of course, she's also recently been hit with the full force of Negi's natural charm...



You know, I'm not entirely sure about Kaede. She seems to have a soft spot for both Negi and Kotaro, enough to talk about it to Mana("I can see why Kaede likes you so much"), but she seems to take the Ninja thing pretty seriously, and keeps herself back, so you really can't tell how much she cares, or to what extent.



Besides, Kotaro got to her first. mrgreen



I would say a 2. She seems to have a bit of a transference from Father to Son.



Again, she's also in Kotaro's camp.



As I put in the entry on Wikipedia, 60% of Ayaka's feelings for Negi stem from the fact that Negi is literally everything she ever wished her brother would have been.



A 2. She likes him a lot, but not romantically.



A solid "?"( mrgreen ). We know next to nothing about her, her personality(other than: "really, really quiet"), or her feelings for anybody. The closest thing we have is the fact that of the two times she has spoken in 124 chapters, the first one was to invite Negi to her performance. And she didn't even speak when she offered to cover for the rest of the girls.

Get over yourself. They're still young, so they can like as many people as they want, regardless of wether or not they end up with each other in the end. It's not the end of the world. The question was how close they were to Negi, and at the moment, the feelings they have about each other have nothing to do with that(Konoka's not ready for that, and Setsuna's still working that part out).

Lol i was kidding. I am not emotional...-Sets down axe- I know everyone has their own opionons and I relize their not MINE. Sorry for the confusion..-Mutters- I love Konoka...
