User ImageIt was time to relax.

Nohokai loved to relax. It meant he could do his favorite thing. Beachcombing was not only helpful in collecting shells and driftwood, but it was also a time that one could mindlessly explore the dimpled shoreline for treasures.

It also meant that Kai could think up new stories that he used to tell the cubs he helped look after. Not only was he relaxing, he was also multitasking. The beat of the surf against the outcropping of rocks before him was soothing as he continued walking forth, eyes locked on the sand and mind in the clouds.

Relax. Well, that was a word she didn't hear often. But when she did, she wasn't quite sure what to do about it. Should she go back to the den and get some extra sleep? Should she wander the pride's lands? Maybe go to the beach? Hmm, tough, tough choices. After a bit of pacing back and forth, she decided on the beach. Ur was off wandering or perhaps back at the den; she would be fine to sit on those salty shores for a while!

It still felt very strange to not need to be at her son's side constantly...

Soon enough she was at the beach, and before she knew it she had flopped down onto the soft sandy ground, just out of reach of the licking waves. With her paws crossed before her and her tail lazily waving through the sand, she stared out into the sea.

Until something caught her attention in her peripheral vision, of course. It was...a rather big Lion? Such a pretty pelt, he certainly belonged here. She fought the urge to flee and hide with Ur...she didn't need to anymore, and besides...he was elsewhere, safe and sound. Instead, she would try something still a little foreign to her.

"Hello!" She called out; it was only proper, he was walking towards her even by accident. Hopefully, a friend could be made here. "Are you looking for something?" Omolara inquired curiously, honestly intrigued by how focused he was on the sand.

His head drew up when he heard someone call out. To him? Lifting his gaze from the pebbly shoreline, he caught sight of a lioness wandering the beach much like he had been. A potential friend? Kai could only hope. He adored making friends in his pride, and he felt that the ocean brought him to friends he was meant to make.

"Greetings!" he called robustly, a laugh in his voice. Such a cheerful soul, Nohokai. He was without a mean bone in his body -- a gentle giant, as it were. "I'm just beachcombing for shells and things for the crafters to use in their work." Anything very special he found he saved for Sabbia, his new friend. Bits of glass, dried starfish, nice ropes of seaweed, barnacles, shells. If they were special, they were Sabbia's.

"And yourself? What brings you to the shore?" He moved closer to the lioness, waiting for her answer before introducing himself.

Omolara found herself smiling at the big Lion with the infectious voice. When he told her what he was doing, she looked down and around, looking at the sand he said he found things in. Interesting...she had seen the crafters, why didn't she think that their resources came from this place? Admittedly, that made her feel...a little bit silly. She looked up again once he started moving closer to her, fighting every urge she had to turn and run. Managing to stand her ground, she forced herself to smile, to try and keep the years of fear from her eyes.

"I...I'm thanking it. For everything it's opened to me." She said honestly, slowly bringing herself to pad slowly closer to him, and to the edge of the water. "Opportunities I've never had before." The blueish gray lioness added, her smile growing slightly bigger.

"My name is...Omolara. What's yours?"

Kai nodded solemnly, his dark gaze moving towards the ocean. "Yes. I find myself thanking her quite often. She is so giving with her bounty. She has brought me many friends, many treasures, and many things to be thankful for."

Kai turned to look back at her. "I am Nohokai, but please, call me Kai." He grinned at Omolara, enjoying her presence. "I am newly returned to these lands, myself, so I am still meeting all the members of the pride. Tell me of yourself," he asked curiously, "and what opportunities Mother Ocean has given you?"

Of course, if she didn't want to share, far be it from Kai to press her for information. He was merely being friendly, a gentleman of sorts, though interested in learning about the friendly lioness.

Omolara nodded her head, bowing it a little bit in a sort of greeting. He certainly seemed like a very nice Lion; she'd been lucky since joining the Pride. She had yet to meet an unfriendly Lion. Very slowly she pawed forward, moving to stand a little closer to him, nodding her head as though they could continue walking the beach. Beside him, she realized just how small she was; how thin, how worn she must look to everyone else.

"I...was a Rogue up until recently. My entire life did and still does revolve around my son." She looked over her shoulder, back to where she had last seem him and the other young ones. Soon of course, Kai had her attention once more. "...She...gave us a home, and she gave him an opportunity to be a true cub, for the first time in his life." The Lioness' voice was full of the love and affection she had for her cub. She fought hard to keep her voice even; she was always so moved when she talked about the Pride and the Ocean; both helped take the weight off of her poor, thin shoulders.

"And you?" She asked quietly.

Kai continued walking at Omolara's gesture, keeping their pace slow and leisurely - there was no rush when in Kai's presence. He seemed to exude a calm, almost, a laid-back and easy-going mindset. A perpetual smile rested on his muzzle as he listened to her talk, the tone of her voice causing his smile to grow even wider. He loved cubs, and cherished the bond between a mother and her children. It was something he craved in his future, but until that time, he relished surrounding himself with the pride's cubs and their affections.

"I was a rogue, as well, until I heard the Ocean's call. Once finding her, I knew I was home. This place, the serenity and peace of it all... well, I could never leave. She is a part of my soul, a part I cannot ever thank enough for all She has given me." He turned his dark gaze towards Omolara, the smile still on his muzzle. Kai truly was a son of the Ocean; the big, seafoam-colored lion would never stray from this place, that much was obvious. "Tell me of your son. He is a good boy?"

"I understand the feeling; I just wish there was something we could do for her in return." But how could they? They were just Lions, and the Ocean...was bigger than any and all of them. When asked about her boy, that soft smile returned to her, her dark eyes lowering to the sand under her calmly moving paws.

"I am biased, Kai...My son is an amazingly good boy. His name is Ur'ahava. He is kind, polite, gentle...He'd grown up so fast and yet he's still such a good boy." As always, she seemed so very adoring; she loved her boy, and there was nothing in the world that could ever put a shadow of doubt on it. "He never complained when we had to keep moving, and when we would go days without eating, he never complained much. I couldn't have asked for a better cub." Those memories of hers were almost painful; she was hungry, she could see how hungry he was...and she allowed herself to stay hungry, in order to give the scraps to him. She would do it all over again in a heartbeat, but she wouldn't want him to have to suffer through it along side her. "I'm just sorry I couldn't have found the Ocean sooner. "

There was a little tilt of her head, and she looked at the lightly coloured male, looking at his sea colours, the way he smiled. He certainly was one with the Ocean. "Do you have any Cubs, Kai?"

Kai chuckled at Omolara's description of her son. A mother was biased, yes, but no mother could ever fake the absolute adoration and love that Omolara's tone carried. "He sounds like a good boy. You must be so proud of having such a son." He smiled at her, his eyes warm and full of contentment.

"I have no cubs at this time in my life, Omolara. I have yet to find a female I trust to start a family with." He turned his gaze downward towards the gritty sand, a small grin on his muzzle. "I believe the Ocean with bring her to me; She has not let me down in showing me good friends." At those words he raised his gaze back to Omolara, the small grin turning into a full-fledged smile.

"As for thanking the Ocean, returning the favor, just show her thanks in whatever way you can. Honor her in whatever way feels right to you, Omolara. She would never ask more than what you can give her."

"I am, so very proud." He wasn't a cub anymore, but to her, no matter how big he got, or how he towered over her as he grew, she would still see him as her little cub. The tiny little boy that stared up at her, or who growled in that tiny little voice at her in the odd moments when he wanted to play. There was a hint of sadness that crossed her features when Kai admitted to not having cubs, or a mate; somehow, being alone didn't suit him, not one bit. But, he seemed content in trusting his happiness to the Ocean, and because of that, so was she.

"Then perhaps, one day she will bring someone to me, as well." The blue-gray lioness said thoughtfully. She'd never really thought about it before, not even once; Ur'ahava was her life, finding a mate, even having more cubs...it wasn't something she ever saw herself doing or having once more. Huh. Interesting. "Thank you, Kai, you are very wise." Lara purred out, finding herself tilting her head, nudging his shoulder and into his soft mane in a grateful nuzzle.

"Do you think it would be out of bounds to...play...in the water?" She asked slowly, hesitantly. Ever since joining the Pride, she'd discovered a playful side of herself, one she enjoyed indulging in. What better way to show the Ocean her gratitude, than to include it in rejoicing in the personality she never knew she had until now!

Kai couldn't hold back the belly-laugh that erupted from his lips. "Play in the water?!" Without further ado Kai leapt toward the waves, indulging himself in the briny sea. He spent as much time as he could in the water, finding that the salty water loosened inhibitions and allowed for childish play. Yet another thing Nohokai loved about the ocean.

"Join me, Omolara!" He called to her, a teasing taunt. He lifted a large paw and splashed cool water towards her, not far enough to hit her but just close enough to show her his intentions. Kai dipped below the surface of the water only to rise up once more, dripping wet, a thick strand of seaweed draped over his head. "Such fun!"

Omolara looked honestly baffled when Kai laughed and lept into the water. Wait, what?! She'd never seen anyone play in the Ocean before, she didn't think it could be done! But after a moment or watching the overgrown cub play, the Lioness started to chuckle. Finally, when he splashed at her, she rolled her shoulders and lowered herself into a crouch, her hindquarters swaying in the air before taking off into the cool water.

She splashed as much as she could, stopping in the water when he submerged, tilting her head until he came back up...with a new addition to his mane. With a carefree laugh the Lioness pounced on him, either trying to dunk him under the surface once more, or to try and mess with his drenched mane; it was hard to tell, but it was clear she was having fun already.

Nohokai laughed heartily when Omolara crouched and then pounced into the water. It was good to see one who seemed so timid and tense lighten up and enjoy herself. Life was too short to drown yourself in regrets and such; this was something that Kai lived by. Take each day and live it to the fullest, enjoy each moment that is gifted to you.

When the drenched lioness pounced him, Kai dramatically fell back into the water, going under the surface almost gleefully. The strand of seaweed dislodged from his head and he broke the surface once more, laughing loudly.

"Fun, yeah?" The large lion shook some moisture from his hair, grinning widely at the lioness. "Let the ocean free you from your worries, Omolara. She is massive enough to take your burdens from you, to carry them for you!"

Omolara laughed loudly; such a big Lion, such a fluffy mane...and all of it flattened! He looked like a drowned rat! A green, happy drowned rat! Dark eyes watched the little piece of seaweed float away from his head, but he had her attention once more when he started to talk.

"She is." Omolara agreed quietly in a thoughtful way, her gaze moving back out to the wide and seemingly endless expanse of water. She was about to pounce on him again when she heard a familiar yowl from somewhere beyond the shore; it belonged to her son. He was apparently looking for her, and instinct had her ears perked instantly. "Ah...but this particular burden I would rather carry myself." She said in a rather happy manner; Ur'ahava was far from a burden in her opinion, but it fit into the conversation.

"I am sorry to cut this so short...But I believe someone is in need of my attention. I will see you around, Kai. Thank you so much, for everything." The drenched Male received a light nuzzle to his shoulder before she turned and swam back to the shore. With one last smiling glance back at him, she shook the water from her fur and let out a little roar for her son, taking big strides to make it over to him.
