Okay. I'm from Atlanta....and I know this has made national headlines somewhat.

But my question to you is: Should the King Center be sold to the federal government? It is in dire need of repairs and there isn't enough money (and the board of directors is giving enough money) to fix and maintain the system. A lot of people even believe that most of the money is going to the children and board directors and not the The King Center and the community.

On the flipside...
People believe that we should keep the center in the community. If we can raise a quarter million to Mayor Shirley Franklin (Atlanta's mayor) in one night for her campaign...why won't these stars (people like Oprah! xp ) and the Atlanta...the Georgia....the NATIONAL community that stands for what Dr. King did stand up, donate and keep the center running??

I just wanted to hear your views on this..

[I'm guessing that if the center is sold to the government, that it won't be as accessible as it was went it was operated by the community?

I'm not really "gifted" when it comes to politics. xd

It's sad that someone running for office can wave a magic wand and produce hundreds of thousands of dollars in the wink of an eye...and yet community centers, schools, etc., that are staples for enriching life and knowledge and essential landmarks to the city (and in some cases the nation) can't raise a dime or pass a levy. neutral

I'm not too sure what can be done about this though... Has the community reached out to said "stars" for financial assistance? ]

Call the NAACP, CORE, and especially SCLC, which was the group Dr. King was in. If all else fails, call Al Sharpton. At least you'll get a rally that way and then maybe someone will show up.
