This was not what Team Rocket hired her for. Nyx was a scientist, not some 'foot soldier'; Unfortunately for her, that argument hadn't gone over well with Jen and only ended with a smack upside her head. What ended up happening was that on one of her few days off, she had to wake up bright and early, and take a hike into the desert surrounding HQ.
"... Couldn't we do this in the winter? Its so early, do I really have to do this? Oh hey, I just remembered, I have some work to do today, so we'll have to reschedule this!"

Indeed, that arguement had not gone well. One of the few serious ones the two partners had, it had sent some of the younger (and more shy) of their pokemon fleeing into various hiding places in the room.
Now they were up bright and early heading down to the garage to borrow a vehicle that would take the group to a training spot Jen had picked out the night before...and with most of her bandages off, Jen was more than capable of dragging the scientist down to the car.
She was still sore though. And Nyx wasnt helping any.
"Nyx! How many times do I have to tell you?!" She cast a glare at her best friend as Aeon toddled along side them. "If you dont train, you might find yourself in a sticky situation your pokemon cant help you out of because of their low level!" She snickered."
"Besides, the fresh air will do you good. Better than inhaling all those chemicals you work with."

Nyx pouted, nothing she said was going to convince Jen to get her out of training. Jen was right, though Nyx would never admit it, especially after how that last raid turned out.
"Those Chemicals are good for me! I need them!" Just because she was right didn't mean Nyx wasn't going to complain and fight her the whole way. "This isn't going to work, you know. I can't battle and my pokemon are pacifists. Its against their beliefs to battle!"
Nyx climbed into the passenger side seat of the car. "Where are we going?"

"Hmph."
Jen gingerly climbed into driver's seat and fiddled with the seatbelt a bit as Aeon clamored over to plop himself down on Nyx's lap. Unlike the scientist, the Pikachu was actually HAPPY about the training they were going to do. Being stuck in-base while his trainer healed had not been kind on the tempermental pokemon.
"Personally, I would say otherwise." Jen stuck her tounge out at her friend as the engine roared to life. "I dont need you coming home from the lab with two heads or three arms." As the garage door opened, she tapped on the steering wheel in thought at the pacifists attempt and chuckled. "Says you. Newton would probably use his perviness to get out of a situation ad Beaker would rush headlong into a blaze of gunfire. Speaking of that, I doubt Beaker the Angry WOULDNT battle."
After a few moments, and on the road as HQ faded into the distance, thats when Jen revealed where they were off to.
"We be heading towards the edge of the desert, where it turns into the plains. There's plenty of room to run around in and there's a few wild pokemon too that we can spar with if it comes to that."
"Pika!"

"Oh, man, I wish that I could grow an extra pair of arms!" Nyx buckled her seat belt and enjoyed her time not yet battling.
"I've tried to get Beaker to not want to battle. But she just punches me." Another sad look at her friend. Beaker was supposed to be her protector, but apparently believed very strongly in tough love.
"At least we're not going to do this in the middle of the desert." She sighed with relief. Melting into a little pile of science goo in the desert heat would not be fun at all.
As they grew closer and closer to the edge of the desert, Nyx started to get antsy. She had never battled. The closest thing she got to battling had been on the raid when Newton tangled himself up around that one man's ankles. And that thing with the Charizard... But Beaker fought all by herself while Nyx got hurt and took off running for help. But if she showed that she could battle, wouldn't that mean the higher ups would ask her to do things like that more and more? What if learning to battle led to her getting hurt? Oh this was bad. Nyx fidget with her seat belt, her hair, her goggles, her pokeballs, and pretty much everything else in the car.

Jen could only laugh at the comment the scientist made as they pulled over into a small clearing. Rocks and sand mingling with sparse grass patches were scattered across the ground as a large rock formation stood tall and proud on the edge of the clearing. As Jen turned off the car, Aeon did not wait for Nyx to open the door to freedom. Instead, turning the handle himself, he leaped down and dashed over to clamor around on the rock pile as he let out a string of happy "pika" sounds.
"Okay." Jen grinned at Nyx as she climbed out. "Might as well let everyone out and let them warm themselves up before we get started."

"Alright..." Nyx exited the car and released all five of her pokemon. Langley, Beaker, Tesla, Bunsen, and Newton all crowded around their trainer and gave her a puzzled look. What were they doing out here?

"Okay guys!"
Jen clapped her hands a few times as two more bursts of while light melted into the familiar shapes of a monotone Pidgeotto and a silver/blue eevee. The former landed on his trainers' shoulder while the latter of the two wove his way in and out of his trainers' ankles with excitement. The tiny pokemon had not been outside of HQ before now and, being here amongest his favorite people, well...
The only thing that registered in the pokemons' mind was it was playtime.
And allo! There was his favorite playmate! With a happy "Vee!", Don raced over to pounce on Bunsen.
"I think some simple exercises will help get the pokemons' muscles warmed up. Then we can start some sparring lessons." Jen grinned at Nyx. "Dont worry, nothing too extreme. Simple stuff. Plus I bought your favorite stuff for lunch later on."

"Ooh, positive reinforcement, very nice." Nyx looked at her and Jen's teams while she pushed a rock around with her foot. Even with the prospect of food, she didn't want to do this. Her pokemon, on the other hand, seemed excited. Except for Newton, who had the same blank expression he wore when he wasn't eating, being a perv, or playing video games.
Beaker flexed and flashed intimidating looks at everyone in the area. This was what she had been waiting for ever since Nyx caught her, after that Kingdra defeated while her back was turned.
"Vrr veee!" Bunsen squeaked as his blue buddy pounced on him. Play time! Hooray! His fluffy tail wagged excitedly from side to side.

"Like I said, Nyx. Think of this as a day out of the stuffy world of HQ. This will give ya a chance to bond and work with your pokemon a bit."
She then smiled at the blank Newton floating over them. "And, from what I heard in the mess hall, the girls like a pokmon that works out." As she spoke, Yamir had taken a piece of bright white cloth from the pouch on her belt before flying to tuck it into the bark on a nearby tree. Aeon, having finished his dance of glee, was working on moving a small pile of rocks and using some cheap lipstick to mark them with random scribbles.
"Whats say we get started with some laps to warm you guys up? Then, while our grounded pokemon do that, Newton, Langley, and Yamir can warm up their muscles by doing some laps around the clearing?"

Nyx sighed. "Alright... You heard her, get moving." She scratched her head and under her goggles as the pokemon took off. Langley was quite a bit slower than Yamir, since he was unevolved and his trainer allowed all of her pokemon to sit and eat 24/7. This would no longer be acceptable to the little pidgey. He had enough troubles being a disappointment, he didn't need being un-trained and out of shape adding to it.
Beaker had kept herself in shape while her owner continued to be a pansy day after day. She was pretty quick, for a wartortle on land, but even Tesla, as puny and cowardly as he was, managed to keep pace with her. That wasn't her fault, though. Wartortle were tough, not quick.
Bunsen took some time getting started, since he was tangled up with his best buddy, but after some flailing and rolling, he pranced off after the others.
Newton seemed to wake up at the mention of ladies. What was that? They liked a pokemon that worked out? Great, he'd do that! Floating was easy, Newton just floated along after the two birds, he'd figured out a long time ago how to ride air currents and use other pokemon to make 'flying' easier. This working out thing was easy. Soon he'd be swimming in ladies!

Aeon and Yamir, finished with their little tasks of target marking, took off after the lapping group with practiced ease; save for little Donar, that is. The tiny pokemon ran beside Bunsen with at an stumbling jog. But determination set in and the little pokemon was intent on keeping up with the others.
Catching up the Beaker and Tes, Aeon alternated between going from two to four legs during their warm-up while Yamir glided over them on the thermals beginning to rise from the ground. He often slipped backwards so he could sail beside Langley, offering the Pidgey encouraging chirps.
"Nyx, dont feel so down about it." Jen placed a hand on her friends' shoulder. "Like I said, with a bit of training, you're pokemon will be better able to protect you. Especially Beaker." She smiled at the mental image that came with her next words. "You told me what happened down in the labs and Im glad you do have a battle-ready pokemon. But the way things stand now, she might go up against another berserking lab pokemon and they'll just flick her away with a forefinger."
Behind them, under the car, the barest flicker of what looked like a flame appeared before disappearing in an eyeblink.
Turning back to the pokemon, Jen called out to them: "Pace yourselves, guys! This isnt a race, its a warmup! And Newton! Stop being lazy! Dont use the air currents so much! Langley! Use the thermals to your advantage like Yamir!"

Pfft, who was Jen to command the great and wonderful Newton the Floaty? No one, that was who. The balloon pokemon kept doing what he was doing.
Nyx's other pokemon looked tired, except for Beaker, who reveled in any sort of physical activity. Bunsen worried less about the run and more about staying next to his buddy. Langley tried to copy his bird-idol's flight pattern. It wasn't as easy as it looked.
"Yeah... I know you're right, I just... ugh." Nyx rubbed her shoulder, her fingers barely touching the scars under her uniform. "I suppose I can't avoid battling forever, now that I have some pokemon..."

Jen clapped a hand on Nyx's shoulder. "Seriously, don't look so down on yourself. I just dont wanna see you in the medical ward like that again." She snickered. "Thats my job as the muscles of our duo." It was then she eyed Newton as the pokemon ignored her advice with a narrow glare. That guy was going to get some special training when they finished their warm-ups in a moment.
Yamir chirruped another set of encouragement to Langley and backwinged a bit, motioning for his friend to seperate from the group and follow. It was time to work off that grass belly of his one on one. In the group, little Don stumbled more and panted a bit. He wasn't in the best shape, despite the training his trainer had started with him; thus, "the burn" was starting to rear it's ugly head. With a tiny "Vvvveeeeeee!", the blue pokemon stopped the warm-ups and toddled/wobbled back to Jen and Nyx.
He wasn't built for this sort of work! What happened to playtime?!
In the group, Aeon started making his usual "bring it!" gestures at Beaker. No doubt simple warm-ups would possibly turn into their own mini-competition soon.
'Anyway..." Jen scooped up the sweaty Eevee into her arms. "I have an idea for some exercises for the little ones and Newton." Jen smirked.

"I know..." Nyx kicked a rock, nearly hitting Bunsen as he bounded up behind Don. "Vee!" The Eevee stumbled clumsily out of the path of the stone. That wasn't nice! Langley followed after Yamir, curious as to how he planned to work off his belly. The Wartortle sprayed a small spout of water at the electric mouse, that'd show him and his taunting.
Newton floated back to Nyx and Jen, but stayed out of reach. He'd float laps, but he'd be damned if he did any actual work.
