LD got almost 5m just buying up items that have a sudden and huge demand. Do that 4 times and you have 20m.

Buy anything that you see has high demand and isn't re-releasable.
Example:
Bad buy: Langer the Dragon Plush (Its given out in the Daily chance)
Good buy: Nitemare sash or powdy penguin slippers.
(Nitemare sash won't be re-released and powdy is bound to go up during the winter.)

Slippers are almost always good investments, Gaia seems to have a slipper fetish.
Not to mention kitties.
So the kitty slippers are a great investment.
