The lioness giggled like a cub as she batted at the foamy waves of the shallows. So long! It had been so long since she'd seen the ocean. She'd felt the breezes as she'd approached, remembered the smell of the salt. Delighted, she darted back and forth, just on the edge of the waves, and laughed when the water splashed against her paws.
She felt like a cub again, especially after meeting that beautiful blue and white lioness. And the last time she'd been at this big blue expanse of shining water...was it before mother forgot her? Was it? If only she could remember better, but it was too far away for words to make sense. Only sensations.
And the sensations the sea was giving her were giddy and gleeful. Keena laughed, lunging to try catching a bit of driftwood as the water washed it away, soaking her belly in the process. It felt good to be here again. It was fun.

 Nohokai had just settled himself in. He felt amazing, having just done his rites that morning. It felt good to find a home, a place for him to settle down his bones and just be able to relax. After wandering for so long, it felt incredible to be back near the ocean that he loved so much. Today he was learning the borders of the pride. His feet sank into the smooth sand and he loved the feel of the grit between his toes. It was a welcoming feeling, and mixed with the rich brine of the sea air, it was perfection. The sound of laughter carried on the sea air, and Kai's ears perked forth and he moved towards the sound. It was a gleeful sound, one that only the sea could bring with her welcoming arms. He drew closer, a sunny-hued lioness coming into his vision. Kai watched her happily play in the waves for a moment before drawing a deep breath and calling out in his deep, rough voice. "Hello!"

So caught up in the flow and ebb of the waves as they crashed and slid across the sands, Keena had no idea she was about to have company until the deep rough masculine voice cut through the sounds of the sea. Both ears flicked and she paused, turning to see who was speaking and almost getting knocked over by the coming wave. He was sea-colored, soft bluish green. He looked like he belonged here, whereas she only thought she might remember being someplace like this.
"Hello to you too!" she called back cheerfully, fully aware that she was sopping wet and had just been playing like a small cub. It was fun, she wasn't embarrassed to be seen having fun. In fact, he was more than welcome to join in and have some fun too!

Kai was instantly charmed by the carefree nature of the lioness before him. He could appreciate someone who loved the ocean as much as he did, and this female seemed to be completely and unabashedly enjoying herself.
A huge smile broke across his muzzle; uncharacteristic, sure, but the sight of her shamelessly dripping with the briny seawater. Moving closer, but remaining at a distance, he sat in the water. The sea thrummed against his paws, the sand bit into his paw pads. He loved this.
"You look to be enjoying yourself. I am Nohokai, call me Kai. You are Bahari'Mtoto?"

"Oh, I am," Keena laughed when he said she seemed to be enjoying herself. He was friendly, she liked him. Her ears were relaxed, angled attentively towards him but if she lifted them then the water that had splashed the fur there would run into her ears and tickle so much...
"It's nice to meet you Kai, I'm Keena," she said brightly, though hesitation marked her next words. "Bahari'Mtoto?" the lioness repeated. "No, I'm not. I'm sorry, am I trespassing?" she asked. Playing in the ocean was fun, but she was loathe to offend someone by remaining unwelcome in their territory.

Nohokai shook his head, grinning at the sandy-colored lioness. "Not trespassing, no. We welcome visitors who love the ocean as much as we do." Well, Kai welcomed visitors, anyway. It was always nice to meet another friendly lion who wasn't afraid to get wet and splash around in the briny seawater.
"Where do you call home?" he asked carefully, not wanting to offend but wanting to learn more about this lioness. He himself had wandered almost aimlessly for a long, long time before finding the Bahari'Mtoto, and now that he had he couldn't imagine living anywhere else.
