[PRP] I Need a Hero D: (Aeli x Kravs) - FIN

Water was scary.

The little brightly colored cub whimpered helplessly where he stood on a large rock in the middle of a river. That it was shallow meant nothing to him, he couldn't tell that that was the bottom, and it sounded like it was moving fast. He'd only wanted to try catching a fish for mommy! He'd climbed out on the big tree part to do it, only then the tree got moved and he got scared, and now, somehow, he'd gotten himself stuck on a rock all alone. In the middle of the scary water.

All. Alone.

"Mommy?" Aelius whimpered pitifully, shivering in spite of the warm day. Only his tail and hind paws were wet, from where he'd slipped off the rock a bit on his landing. He was fine really, he just didn't know it yet. But the water was scary, and he couldn't remember where mommy was...

Karvanis was down stream stalking for his meal when he noticed the little guy on the rock. At first he thought the cub was fishing and paid little no mind to it, but as he got closer, he noticed the little guy was terrified. The time had come, he thought, Time to be a hero!

Rushing over to the river side by the cub, he shouted out "Little one, what is the matter!" Looking around for any signs of his family he began to worry that something bad had happened. Could he have been abandoned? he thought as the worse case scenario passed his mind, but quickly shaking that off he moved closer to the waters edge, checking around the rock, awaiting the cubs reply.

Aeli's eyes widened in fear as the big lion came closer. It wasn't daddy, he'd met daddy once. Daddy was black and white and stripy, kind of like Aeli was stripey but Aeli had mommy colors. He loved mommy. He wished mommy would come find him!

"No, no," he whimpered, inching away from where Kravanis had called from and almost slipping off the rock again. That the water would only come up to his chin didn't matter, because he didn't know. It looked deep. And fast. And very scary. Mommy had said to be careful of water! He didn't mean to get stuck in it!

Karvanis could something was obviously wrong, and he knew the Cub was intimated by him. I have to help him! he thought. Walking out towards the cub slowly, Karvs approached the rock. Kneeling ever so slightly before the rock, allowing the cub to crawl right up onto his back. "Get on little one, there is nothing to fear!"

Karvanis was worried he would scare the little guy right off the rock; but he had to try and get him before that happens. Standing firm against the rock, he waited for the little guy to climb aboard.

Aeli made a small 'eep'ing noise as the big lion came closer, flattening against the rock as though he could hide himself by doing so. This might have worked better if he were actually rock-colored instead of looking like a splash of stripey sunshine. Or if the lion hadn't been talking to him a few seconds ago.

"M-m-mommy s-says...says Aeli sh-shouldn't talk to st-strangers..." he protested, watching the brightly colored lion with huge golden eyes. He was scared of the water. And he was scared of the lion. And scared of the little bird in that tree over there, but that was besides the point right now. The point was, right now Aelius couldn't decide what he was most scared of or what to do about it. So he stayed flattened against the rock right where he was and hoped something would come to him. An idea-type something. That would be nice.

Karvs couldn't risk it any longer he had to make a choice. Does he try and talk to the cub, which seems futile or does he take action and bring him to safety. Torn between the two he looks upstream then downstream, still no sign of anyone coming for the little guy.

A hero does what he must to save the innocent said to himself. Nodding slightly, he turned and mounted the rock. He looked at the cub and said "Sorry little one, but you need to trust me." Smiling, he took the tuft of his neck in his mouth gently and raised him up high, as he stepped back and moved to cross the stream, making sure he didn't touch the water. Reaching the other side, Karvs placed him gently on the soft grass and took a few steps away and looked back to the water, waiting for a few fish to come down stream.

Aeli wailed in terror at those teeth coming towards him. The stranger didn't sound scary, but mommy had told him not to talk to strangers! She'd also told him to be careful of water, and he hadn't been careful enough. Now he was stuck on a rock, and it was so very scary! He should have listened more! Now what was going to happen to him???

Whimpering pitifully, he scrunched his eyes tightly shut and tried to curl into a ball as he was lifted gently and carried back to shore. He huddled where he was placed for a few moments, paws over his eyes, before, when nothing happening, he cautiously cracked one open and peeked at the brightly colored lion.

"What...what are you doing?" he asked uncertainly. He wasn't supposed to talk to strangers...but he was a little curious. Nothing bad seemed to have happened yet...

Karvs looked towards the cub and smiled. "Fishing, Little one" he said calmly before turning his head back to the water. Karvs was happy, he was finally able to be like a true hero! But his job wasn't finished yet. By his guess the cub had come to fish and some how ended up on the rock, this area was notorious for easy catches after all. Karvs watched the water closely waiting for a few fish to come downstream.

First fish, Karvs lunged his head in, and caught it in his mouth. He places it on the shore beside him and waited for another one.

"...oh," Aeli said softly, watching curiously as the bigger lion eyed the river. He didn't seem that scary from here. His colors were bright, even if they were mostly pink and not gold like mommy and Aeli and some of Aeli's sisters and brothers. But there was blue in his family. And there was gold on this stranger.

Maybe he wasn't really so scary.

Cautiously, still nervous, the little cub crept up to crouch nearer to Kravs. "Uhm...mommy...mommy catches fishies with her feets," Aeli told the bigger lion meekly, hoping he wouldn't get mad or anything. He was just trying to share how mommy taught him. Mommy was a very good fish-catcher. She was the best in the whole wide world.

It was a real fact.

Karvs lungs his head in again, pulling out yet another fish, this time he set it in front of the cub. Looking at him he smiled. "And fishing with your paws is very effective. Its just more fun this way!" he laughed and looked back to his fish, he reached over and tore a huge chunk of it and swallowed it, before looking back towards the water. One small fish wasn't enough for a big guy like him.

While looking towards the water, Karv gently asked "Say, little one.. Where is your Mommy?" he was still worried the cub might have been abandoned.

More fun like that? But...but water was cold! And it was wet! And when Aeli had his face in the water he couldn't breathe! It was so scary! Maybe this big lion was braver than he thought. Oooh, maybe he was a real hero! Just like Aeli wanted to be!

"Mommy is...uhm..mommy is..." the cub turned in a worried circle, trying to see. "That tree!" he pointed, relieved, "Mommy is other side of tree." It was a lot further away than he had thought it would be though. That was a little scary!

"Aeli is catching fishies for mommy with his feets. But Aeli's feets small. So Aeli climbed on a tree in the water to catch fishies. But the tree moved! And then Aeli on a rock," he explained, inching slowly closer to the big lion. Was he a hero? He was big and brave and had saved Aelius when he was stuck...

Karvs laughed out. "Next time, make sure Mommy comes with you, that way she can save you if something happens" he looked at the little guy and smiled. Karvs loved kids, and was hoping to have many of his own one day. "Just imagine how sad your mommy is right now without you?" or so he thought, what mother would not be worried when there cub goes missing?

Karvs lunges his head in a few more times and pulls out a few more fish. "I'll give you these to take back to mommy okay?" he got up and went and pulled off the biggest leaf he could find. Place the fish on the leaf for the little guy to drag. "Think you can handle it?"

"I will!" Aeli nodded, not at all eager to relive his scary experience from going by himself. He would never do that again, not ever! "...sad?" the cub froze, his jaw dropping open in horror. Oh no! He didn't want to make mommy sad! Oh, oh, what could he do? He had to go back and make her happy again!

He was about to take off when the brightly colored lion put the fish on a leaf for him. "Really? I can take them?" Aeli asked, shuffling his paws anxiously in the grass. "Ooh, I can do it!" he assured him, seizing the edge of the leaf in his jaws and tugging hard. It was heavy, but he could move it. He'd dragged it almost all the way back to the tree before he remembered.

"Thank you Mr. Hero!" he called back, tail waving excitedly for a moment before he turned and continued to haul the fish home. Mommy would be so surprised!
