Kizi glanced around, making sure that her father wasn't watching before hurrying off on her own once again. She loved her father dearly, but sometimes it was more fun to go off without him watching her so that she could be herself. For Kizi, "herself" was a bratty, self-centered princess. "Awena!" She called, "Come on, keep up." She looked behind her and waited a moment for her little pet to appear, panting and struggling to keep pace with the young cub.

"Sorry Kizi, I'm trying." She huffed, "Where are we going today?" She asked, trying to look pleasant even though she was already exhausted. "We're not going too far I hope?" She looked around nervously, dreading Angra finding them running off again. He never got angry with Kizi for it, but she doubted that she'd get the same treatement.

"I dunno, but I'm tired of dealing with my sisters. They never do as they are told." Kizi growled, continuing to walk steadily away from where her family was currently staying, "Not like you. You're a good pet." She laughed. She had just recently 'claimed' the little genet as her own, and unlike her sisters, Awena always did as she was told. Awena knew her place.

"Thank you, Kizi." Awena resisted the urge to roll her eyes as she scampered along behind her, "I live to please." It took all her self control to keep the sarcasm from leaking into her voice. She was an incredibly submissive creature and had no problem being Kizi's 'pet', but she wasn't always thrilled with the way she spoke to her. Still, she provided her with something she had been looking for her whole life; protection. Awena was small and vulnerable, where as Kizi was, while small, under the watchful eye of a massive red lion, and Kizi herself would be big one day too. It was best to have friends who could protect you, even if they didn't treat you all that well.

Sungura had been watching the ants scurry past him and into their little ant hill that he had found on the borders of the Mwako'bi'giza lands. He had been told not to wander to far away from his sister. Kipofu, and his mother and father, but the young male cub had lost himself in his mind and managed to wander off quite aways.

Sungura went to stand and move around to the other side of the ant hill to get a better look and them when he heard a loud crunch underneath one of his paws. Upon inspection he noticed he had stepped on a grub and panicked, "Nonononononono. Ahhh. I'm sorry Mr.Bug I didn't mean to step on you."

Kizi flicked an ear and stopped, "Did you hear something?" She asked, looking around for a moment. "I don't see anything." She started walking again and before long discovered the source of the sound, a cub like herself, who appeared to be apologizing to some small thing he had stepped on.

"What are you doing?" She tilted her head to one side, "It's just a bug." She didn't understand why it should matter if a bug was stepped on or not, especially considering how much bigger things her father killed on a regular basis to feed himself as well as her and her sisters.

Still, the fact that this cub cared so much could be fun. He seemed a bit like her Awena here, maybe he could be her pet too? "My name is Kumbukizi, everyone calls me Kizi." She said proudly, sitting down before him, being careful (for his sake more than anything) not to sit on any bugs. "And this is my pet Awena."

"Pleasure to meet you." Awena said politely, smirking. She had never seen a lion who didn't like killing things before. "What's your name, young one?"

"Hush, Awena." Kizi laughed, swatting gently at the genet, "You are such a silly pet. But you like being my pet, right?"

"Oh yes." Awena couldn't help but laugh a little. Sure, there were perks, but this wasn't exactly ideal for her. And it wasn't as if she could leave anyway, so sure, she liked it. Not much of a choice on her part. "It's great."

Sungura jumped at the sound of Kizi's voice. He had been so preoccupied by apologizing to the wee bug he accidentally trampled, that he had not heard her sneak up on him, or the genet for that matter. He turned to her, his fur all sticking up from the initial shock. He thought for a moment she might be a shadow or a demon, but demons didn't act so nice and they didn't have pets. They had slaves.

"The bug didn't ask to be stepped on," Sungura murmured quietly, and he wiped the remaining bug goo off his paw, "and I didn't mean to step on him. So it's only right I apologize for the bad thing I did."

Sungura squinted a bit as he looked at Kizi. She was very bright, he had not seen someone so...blue before. Maybe she was new to the pride, or perhaps she was simply passing through. That happened sometimes.

"I'm Sungura..."

"We don't always ask for things, but they do happen sometimes." She giggled, "It was an accident, I wouldn't worry about it." It was unusual for her to be comforting like this, but it was all an act. Having gotten her first pet recently and quite enjoying it, she was eager to see if she could get another one. Little did Sungura know, she was closer to a demon than he knew.

"Bug's gotta die sometime." Awena smirked, hurrying over to the bugs and picking one up, gobbling it up quickly. Bugs were some of her favorite things to eat, they tasted great and were easy to swallow, unlike the gazelle and zebra meat she had been getting since meeting Kizi. "Die for food, die on accident... Bugs don't live long." She grabbed another and ate it, pleased that they had stopped near such a good food source for her.

"Awena, you are so funny." Kizi laughed, trying to hide her disgust. "So, Sungura, you seem very nice." She grinned, "Do you live near here?" She asked, looking around. She didn't see anyone nearby, but that didn't mean they weren't somewhere else. After all, she couldn't see Angra from here, but he was around somewhere. "My family and I are passing through here. My daddy and sisters and I." She nodded eagerly, "Daddy says that I'm the prettiest lioness he knows. I love my daddy." She beamed, her tail flicking behind her. "How about you? What is your family like?"

Sungura couldn't help but feel saddened by Kizi and Awena's words. They might be just helpless little bugs, but even they deserved to live. Just because something is small or helpless didn't mean you stopped caring about it. If this wasn't true, his mom and dad would have stopped caring about Kipofu because she was blind. And they hadn't, so it wasn't true.

"I live on these pride lands with my mother, father and sister," Sungura said, scratching one paw with the other and starring off into space. He wasn't much for starring into someone else's eyes when he spoke, it made him feel judged. And he had enough of being judged already in his short little lifetime.

"My mom is Taswira, and my dad is Set. They're both Adolescents. And my sister is Kipofu and she's blind. I protect her when mom and dad are training."

"Oh, you are such a sweetie!" Kizi chimed, "How nice of you to take care of your blind sister, I wish my siblings were that kind to me." Her face fell as she pretended to be deeply saddened by the thought, "My sister Jini is so mean to me, she calls me ugly and the other day she pushed me out of a tree." She lied. Sure, Jini had called her ugly, but she had fallen out of the tree on her own, though it had been Jini's idea to go up there in the first place. It was her fault.

"But, I'm not ugly, am I?" She looked at him pleadingly, puting on an excellent act, "I mean, daddy says I'm beautiful but Jini says I'm ugly, which one is right?" She blinked at him, fishing for his sympathy and a compliment.

Sungura shook his head sheepishly to Kizi's question. She wasn't ugly at all, at least not to him. She was a little out of the ordinary as far as coat colors went, but that was never a bad thing, it just meant she was more interesting than everyone else. He scrunched his nose a tad, "I'd never call my sister ugly. Sisters are gifts so you don't get lonely."

"You're not ugly," He said, pawing at the dirt idly, "You're very pretty."

Kizi smiled warmly at him for a moment before saying anything, taking pride in the fact that he, too, found her pretty. "You're the nicest lion I've ever met, Sungura." She said softly, "Thank you so much." She stepped closer to him and nudged him with her nose gently before backing away and acting shy, as if she was unsure of if she should have done so or not, but in truth she knew it was all an act.

He certainly was a fun new toy. "Do you want to be my friend?" She batted her eyes at him endearingly, "I've never had a friend before." She glanced up at Awena. "I mean, Awena is sort of my friend but she's really my pet." She giggled, "I think you would be the best friend ever."

Sungura smiled a little at Kizi's compliment. The kindest lion she'd ever met? Was all the lions Kizi knew mean to her like her sister was? That was not a good thing, living in an area where everyone was mean to you. Sungura was glad he lived here with his mother and father and sister in a nice place.

Sungura blinked for a moment as she asked him if he wanted to be here friend. It would be nice, having a friend not related to you. He loved his sister and his aunts and uncles, but he'd wanted a friend who wouldn't just turn around and tattle on him to his mom if he did something bad, not that he would.

"Of course I'll be your friend Kizi," Sungura smiled, little happy sparkles in his eyes. "You'll be my first friend!"

Kizi lit up and bounced excitedly, "Ooooh, thank you Sungura!" She giggled, "I'm sure you and I will be the best of friends! We have to see each other as often as we can, alright?" She looked around. The trees they were under seemed like a good spot.

"Ok, I'll come right here when ever I want to see you." She smiled, "You do the same, alright?" Yep, getting him to follow simple requests was the first step. Once she knew that he would do that for her, she'd start to demand things, but for now... Best to take it slow. The young lion wouldn't know what hit him.

"I'll come here all the time." She nodded, "I want to spend as much time as I can with my new best friend."

Sungura nodded his head at her, a wide smile spreading across his face. He had made a friend and she wanted to see him all the time! He should bring Kipofu down with him sometime so they could be introduced, and so Kizi could see that not all sisters were mean like her's was.

"I'll come here everyday to see if you're here," Sungura said, a little excitement in his voice as they laid out their plans for future gatherings. The poor boy didn't know how much trouble he had gotten himself into agreeing to be Kizi's friend, but he'd soon find out.

A sly grin crossed the blue cub's face for a moment. Yes, this was going to work out perfectly. Already Sungura was as eager to see her as she was to see him, and he seemed to be coming out of his shell quite nicely. This was going to be fun.

"You're the best, Sungura." She beamed, "I can't wait for all the fun we're going to have." Yes, fun. Fun for her, probably not as much fun for him but... Well, that's why it was fun for her in the first place! Though her smile was innocent and playful, her mind was working to come up with new, interesting things to try to coerce him into doing. After all, she was his only friend and he was her's, so surely he'd do anything to please her?

Ideally, at least.
