"Two hearts." Jianyu said. "My win."

There was a general murmur of disgust from the patrons sitting across from him at the round wooden table. One man threw down his cards and left with an annoyed grumble. Jianyu eyed him, then raised his mug to his lips, taking a small sip of the ale that had been sitting for quite some time untouched. He gathered the cards together as those around him slowly dissipated. It was a quiet evening at the Inn; Jianyu had spent most of the day in training, and then a few hours with Bataar, but now he was quite bored and had decided, somewhat on a whim, to relax for a little while at the Inn. It had been a while since he had been to Ichi-Koi, and even now he felt slightly uncomfortable.

Jianyu absently twisted a bead in his hair, leaning back in his seat as he took another sip of the ale. He let out a sigh.

What now? he thought, closing his eyes briefly.

Eiji rested an elbow on the bar counter as he ordered a drink. After a painfully uneventful day he found himself wanting some kind of drink to entertain himself with. Such a shame to have the entire day go to waste. Today's choice was a simple beer. With beer in hand he adjusted his seating and propped himself against the bar with his back against it, leaning more on his left elbow with his drink in his right. He received awkward stares by some of the older crowd that were currently at the Inn, some who tried to hide their presence behind others, as he enjoyed his drink. Their eyes were not fixed upon him but aimed a bit higher and to the left, to the cat that was on his left shoulder.

Eiji's attention on his beer was short lived as something stole his focus. A slight commotion was happening at a table a few tables away from his spot at the bar. It didn't take much to figure out it was the card game, he remembered hearing calls as he entered the Inn. I wonder how much he lost.. well serves him right for not knowing how to play the game right. He rose his beer to his mouth again and watched the table from behind the rim of the see-through glass.

The gray colored cat jumped onto the bar top before stretching down to an empty stool, making his way to the floor. Trotting over towards the table where the commotion was, he picked up a card that must have fallen at some point of their game, and pounced up to the table's surface to return the card to it's owner.

God damn cat, Eiji thought as he lowered his mug.

The cat was holding a card in its mouth. Jianyu blinked. Reaching out, he carefully extracted the (somewhat damp) card.

"Thank you." he said uncertainly.

It was staring at him. Jianyu frowned.

"Er." he said, face flushing. "Goodbye?"

Jianyu was not particularly fond of animals. He was even less fond of animals that had a lot of fur, and who seemed to be staring at him with those luminous glass green eyes with an expression of boredom mixed with curiosity. Jianyu's unhappy expression deepened, and he leaned back, scooting his chair a few inches away in wary apprehension.

"Shoo." he said, waving a hand. "Shoo."

The intruder showed not an ounce of offense towards the Lunarians shooing. The feline had an sense of experience about him. He was far to used to such action inducing sounds that they no longer phase him. The only reply back he gave were silence and a tilt of the head.

Eiji rose a hand to his head, running it through his hair, then scratched the back of his head. And this is why I don't voluntarily take you anywhere.. he thought in frustration as he made his was over towards the table. "Sumu!" Eiji called, as the cat's ears flicked at his voice, before turning attention to the man his cat disturbed. "Rest assured, he won't attack you."

He couldn't help but notice how bothered the lunarian in front of him was because of Sumu's presence; he let out a laugh. Sumu was still staring at the other lunarian intently, the tip of his tail flicking every so many seconds. "Ugh. Git git!" Eiji shouted to Sumu as he physically slid him off the table, Sumu landing on the floor with a thud. "Can't you see the man doesn't want you here!" He let out a laugh, "I guess you can't win them all, huh? Bad luck has to strike you somewhere. Even if it just comes in a form of something you don't like."

Helping himself to one of the currently vacant chairs Eiji set down the mug he carried over. "So I couldn't help but overhear the outcome of the game at this table. How'dya do?"

Jianyu's attempts at shooing the cat away had not been very successful. In all actuality, it had simply sat there staring at him, a bored expression in those golden orbs. Jianyu frowned, edging his chair back slightly. Cats were often a sign of misfortune as it was, and that fact only added to his dislike of the creatures (or any furry creature, for that matter).

Howver, he was saved the trouble of prodding the beast in its rump with an arrow. A tall young man came walking over, shoving the cat bodily from the table before sitting across from him, a mug of ale in one hand. He had an easy, half lazy smirk on his face, one eyebrow lifted in interest as he spoke. There was a slight discoloration under his left eye, and the very faintly puckered skin around it was evidence of a scar. Jianyu blinked, scrutinizing him.

"Er." he said, glancing down at the cards of his hand. "I won, actually. The others were not up to par with my skills, apparently."

Jianyu's eyes flitted back to the boy.

"Do you play?" he asked, nodding at his hand.

”Ah..., you won?” he laughed, ” Well isn’t that good news to hear!” he added. Eiji was always fond of hearing a good outcome in any situation so he was genuinely pleased to hear of the others victory.

Grabbing hold of the mugs handle he raised one side and started to circle it around it’s bottom rim; his attention drawn to the mug. ”Hmm? Do I play? Well..” Eiji paused before he let out another laugh. ”I do!” There was no need in long responses, a simple yes or no was find. Nor did he need to explain it’s been a while since he actually played with anyone. He was simply going to let things play out and see what his outcome will be. It’s more fun that way.

By this time Sumu got tired of his new, forcibly given, location on the floor so he made his way up to eyes view. Jumping up to an empty chair Sumu poked his head up above the table edge before pouncing up to Eiji’s right shoulder; maneuvering himself and resting himself down on the opposite, left, shoulder. He had no interest in what the lunarians spoke of. His eyes scanned the other tables, keeping his focus elsewhere in hopes of finding something interesting. Eiji seemed not phased at all with the cat relocating to his shoulders.

”Were you interested in testing your luck once again? Or did you really think it was just pure skill?”

It was rare that Jianyu found anyone willing to play cards with him. Most of the men he played with believed he cheated in some way, which was not the truth at all. Jianyu simply followed the rules, although he had lost a good portion of the games he played. He did not understand how he could have lost those particular games; following the rules of the cards exactly should have resulted in an automatic win, yet he had not gained anything from that. Jianyu looked up and down at the young man standing in front of him, his hands working as he shuffled the deck of cards.

"I do not believe in luck." he answered. Only the expected outcome of certain situations. There is no such thing as 'chance' or 'fate.'

"However," Jianyu added, raising one dark eyebrow. "I would be willing to play another round if you are."

Jianyu reached out his hand.

"My name is Qian Jianyu." he said. "Are you ready to play?"
