Eskiva had just recently moved further downstream than she had ever been. Now that she was suddenly larger she couldnt really wallow in the shallow cold water that was closer to the mouth of the stream. It was kind of a happy time for her because when she was smaller she lived with her mother in the lake at the base of the stream. Now that she was bigger she got to move back down the stream as was proper for a growing water type. But of course it was strange because she hadnt really evolved...she just got bigger...and lanky...and trainer-esque. UGH she looked like a trainer, did this mean she was not a pokemon anymore?! She refused to think of such a thing! of COURSE she was a pokemon, she had a tail and a shell. NUFF SAID! She finally reached the deeper parts of the stream and began to dig in the mud to widenthe channel a little bit. She would have to dig out a large pool so that she could sleep in the water and not flow downstream. But then again she didnt know if this new non-blue skin could even be in the water that long! The lack of blue still worried her.
She decided to forget it and got down onto her knees at the shore and began to shovel mud with her hands. This was going to take a few days, but it was a rite of passage! She was so excited! She hummed a marching type tune to keep up a working rythm as she worked just so she wouldnt get bored.

After a while, a strange voice greeted the non-blue squirtle. "Excuse me, um...what're you doing?"
A little girl stood by the bank, her short blonde hair curled up in ponytails. She wore a pair of cutoff shorts and a pink shirt, but the most noticeable thing about this ten year old was the cute and chubby Sentret clutched in her arms.
The Sentret didn't look as shy as most of it's kind. In fact, it had a pleasant grin and was wiggling its tail about very pleasantly, as if this was totally normal.

Eskiva stopped digging and looked up from her half started hole. It was really more of a mud puddle at this point but of course that didnt matter. Eskiva shifted her body so that she was crouching on her feet in kind of a squat position instead of on her knees. She faced the little girl and wiped mud off of her face with her muddy hand which needless to say did nothing.
"I'm building my home." She said matter of factly, as if the little girl should have been able to tell from her position. But then she stopped and her eyes widened. Did she just speak english to a trainer? She looked at the girl "Wait, am...I ...speaking.....your language?!" Eskiva blinked her eyes and grabbed a handfull of mud to spread on her face. This was just toooo weird, first she didnt have blue skin and now she was speaking like trainers! ALL WAS NOT WELL IN THE WORLD!! The mud quickly slid off her face and when she opened her eyes the little girl and the sentret were still there. Eskiva let herself fall backwards onto her butt and she stared at the pair suddenly wondering what they were doing here.
"Well if I do speak your language then....you better not be here to make a home too, this is my shoreline! Plus I already started so..." Eskiva stuck her tounge out at the pair but it only made her taste mud. She made a face and turned away to try and spit out as much mud as she could still slightly off her mental balance since hearing herself speaking trainer language.

Julie watched the confused girl for a few moments before looking down at Fluff and shrugging. "I think you are - I understand you?" she offered.
"No, we have a home already. Do you want some help digging though? It looks messy." Julie said, walking forward with Fluff. When Eskiva fell, the pair reached out to take her hands and pull her back up a bit. "I'm Julie and that's Fluff."

Eskiva hadnt expected anyone to offer to help her build her home. She took the girls hands and allowed herself to be helped up. She thought it over for a second and decided that help would indeed make her house happen alot faster. "Sure you can help." She took on an air of maturity and was about to dole out assignments for each of the new comers but suddenly realized that she needed to introduce herself. This realization took the wind out of her sails and she remained her usual confused and bossy self.
"Oh yeah I almost forgot, I'm Eskiva." She briefly introduced herself then because her previous train of thought had been interrupted she had to pause and remember what she was doing in the first place. "Oh yeah we are building a home, MY home so it has to work." Eskiva looked at the small puddle of a hole that she had started and wondered if any of these two had ever built a home before. "Well we have to start with this," She pointed at the previously mentioned mud puddle, "I have to make a small lake kind of thing, maybe jacuzzi sized since I'm so big now, so...roll up your sleeves and lets dig out some mud!" Eskiva began to think of all the things she would eventually need to do but she prabably wouldnt get to that stuff fo days so it was hole digging time!

Julie smiled and Fluff slipped out of her arms to scurry over to the water. After all, it was a burrowing creature! Immediately it dove into the ground and began to dig away. The girl giggled at the mess being made and started digging with her hands also.
"We have a jacuzzi at home," she commented, making conversation as she and Eskiva dug with their hands.

"It must be nice to have warm water whenever you want it." Eskiva answered the girl dreamily. She4 could only imagine what having a jacuzzi at home was like. Infact she could only imagine what having a home was like! She had always lived in a lake or bed of water, having a roof was something that she couldnt quite imagine herself getting used to. "Have you always lived in a home? The both of you?" Eskiva asked curiously. She had never really had the oppertunity to ask trainers about their lives since they generaly were trying to catch her or just battle for fun. The closest she had ever come to talking to a trainer was talking to the pokemon of triatheletes who came to rest. Those guys never bothered her for battles, they were to busy training.
"I have lived in a lake my whole life...er well I lived in a river for a little while I guess" She decided to explain a little bit so that the trainer wouldnt think she was too odd for asking about what a home was like. "I dont have a trainer, I'm self-reliant." Eskiva added in a rather cocky tone after thinking about explinations. She almost immediately regretted it as soon as she remembered that she looked very un-poke-like at the moment. Maybe the girl would think she was just one of those fanmatic people who always wandered around in pokemon costumes.

"I haven't!" Fluff crooned, poking its head up from the water for air, and then ducking back down.
Julie giggled at him, going back to her own digging. "Dunno what Fluffy said, but I have. A really really big house. I found Fluffy in the WILD. He wanted my sammiches so I gave him some and then he followed me home and we're friends now."
The girl looked amazed at Eskiva, "wooow. That's cool! I'm not allowed to live in a river - Mommy and Daddy say no."

Eskiva laughed at the small sentret and his seeming intense desire to dig. "He said he hasnt." She told Julie "Which I guess makes sense since you found him in the wild." She smiled and paused for a moment as she moved a particularly large handful of mud. With a happy sigh she continued to scoop the mud out and have conversation, she was starting to like this new ability to talk to trainers. Plus since she looked like a trainer-thing they weren't trying to catch her! It was great!
"A big house huh? I have never had a roof, it must be weird to not see the stars every night." Eskiva wondered if a roof would make her feel trapped since she had never slept under one before and decided that it would. "My mommy was the one who showed me how to live in the river" Eskiva added proudly, puffing up her chest a little bit. She had always been rather proud of her mother, after all who wouldnt be proud of a giant water cannon bearing turtle. "My mom said that she used to live in a lake up on a mountain but she got tired of it freezing every winter so she moved to a river which never freezes cause the waters always moving." Eskiva thought about what she said for a second and remembered something "Well this river doesnt freeze anyway, I hear from others that some rivers still freeze."
Eskiva wondered what was the difference between a river that froze and one that didnt, it probably had something to do with the rapids or longitude or something complicated that she had no desire to look into. All she knew was that it worked to her advantage and thats all she really cared about. "Yeah but I'm tired of living in moving water, thats why I'm making this pool."

Julie looked at her in wonder, "Woooow. What kind of people live in a lake?" she asked before scratching her head a bit, "Or are you not normal people cause you look like pokemon? Like are you special half pokemon people? Or do pokemon come from you?" the child seemed a bit confused over this matter, pausing to rest on a nearby rock.
"If you stop living in the moving water, won't your home freeze then?"

Eskiva was bombarded with questions that she had to admit she didnt really have any solid answers to. She debated analyzing her situation with this little girl but then as the little girl went through all kinds of scenarios out loud Eskiva decided that she should just pick one of the girls scenarios, and luckily one of them was essentially what she thinks happened anyway.
"Well I'm a pokemon....kind of...or at least i was a pokemon." Eskiva paused for a second to think, "Yeah I'm SURE I was a pokemon, then I woke up one day and I was all lanky, so I think I'm still a pokemon...just not on the outside?!" Eskiva knew it didnt make alot of sense but then again she was talking to a child and as a general rule children tended to make sense out of nonsensical things so she didnt feel too awkward saying all this out loud.
Then of course the little girl brought up a good point. Eskiva stopped digging for a second and placed a hand on her chin to think, which really only made her face even more dirty. "Well I'm big enough to break the ice now...I think...and since its little it shouldnt take me to long to break the ice every day if I'm....."She paused to think of a really cool word. "Vigilant!" Eskiva figured if it was a small pool for only herself it could possibly be that hard to take care of.

Julie watched the other with wide eyes, listening raptly and nodding. Sure! This made total sense! Of course some pokemon evolved into humans - that was just so logical! "What kinda pokemon were you? You look like a skirt-al."
At the comment on the frozen home, the child cheered, "WOW! You'll be so strong!" she said happily, "But if it gets too cold, you gotta promise to come stay with us, okay? Fluffy and I will let you stay in the warm, right Fluff?"
The Sentret poked his head up then, nodding rapidly. Yes! Warm!

Eskiva smiled and choked back a small laugh, she wondered what this little girls parents would do if she just showed up at their house on a cold day to sleep on their couch and eat their hot food. "Yeah I was a Squirtle, the best squirtle EVER." Eskiva stopped digging to strike an impressive pose. She smiled amd checked herself. she didnt want her ego to get to big in front of this little girl.
"Maybe one day if its real cold I'll come visit, I'm sure your fluffball will make me a good pillow one day." Eskiva grined sneakily at fluffernutter who was digging a little way away. She had a playfulness in her eyes that let the careful observer know she was kidding...or was she. Then she turned her attention back to Julie "Maybe when I finish you could come stay with me one day, we could pitch you a tent-er something so you wouldnt have to sleep in the water..people dont dry out on shore right?" Eskiva offered and half asked. She hadnt been a human for to long and come to think of it she wasnt sure how long she could be out of the water with her new changes...it was definitely something she would have to look into.
