Pretty concept art and or a banner will be added here.

[Welcome to Izumi's Concept Thread!]
PostPosted: Wed Jun 30, 2010 11:47 am

Full name: Iori, Izumi
Nickname: None
Reason for Nickname: N/A

Age: Three lifetimes and 26 years
Eye Color: Emerald
Eye Shape: Wide and round with long lashes
Glasses or contacts?: Perfect vision, so neither
Hair color: platinum blond
Hair length and style: Iori wears his straight, hip-lengthed hair in a ponytail. But he has no ties in which he pulls his hair up with. Instead he uses four thin braids (two at each temple) that he uses to pull the rest of his hair into his chosen hairstyle. The end of the braids are decorated with beaded white and black feathers. He also has four more thin braids, two on either side of his face, that he lets trail down over his shoulders. His bangs are long and messy and fall into his eyes a bit.
Face shape: Round with a slightly pointed chin
Skin tone: Pale because for whatever the reason he cannot seem to tan. Unless you call turning a bright red tanning...
Distinguishing features: A small beauty mark at the corner of his left eye. It's so small it looks more like a spec of dirt then a marking. Also he has two small silver hoops in his right ear and a heart shaped birthmark on his right thigh.

Health Condition: He's pretty sturdy but when he does fall ill, he really falls ill since he often ignores the warnings his body gives him. He also has an extremely high pain tolerance. Anything harsher then a scrape or paper cut is completely ignored by him. Because of this he automatically says 'Ouch' whenever he bumps into something hard or feels a taring like sensation on his skin. He does however feel a faint uncomfortable sensation in his body whenever he overworks when training or has slept badly.
Overall Constitution: A superb immune system, high pain tolerance, and aptitude for healing since he's often healing his own wounds.

Home District: Kurohyou District
Current Residence: Candidate for Division 6 Captain's position, lives alone in Upper Kurohyou
Soulborn or not?: Unknown, most likely not
(If Soulborn) Social Status & family: Orphan
Occupation: Division 6 Captain Candidate
Faction: Soul Army

Talents/Skills: Healing. Since Iori more often then not ends up healing his own wounds, he's become quite skilled at getting the most results for the least amount of Reiki. Because of this his skill at controlling the flow of his Reiki has become precise enough that he can split specific hairs off of a persons head without harming anything else.

He also has the ability to turn nearly inedible things into something edible. Meaning he can turn EMR's (emergency meal rations) into something pliable. But if you ask him to cook something fancy more often than not it will turn into charcoal.

Iori has been told that his skills in calligraphy and poetry are quite beautiful, and as a result his handwriting and way of wording things (written words at least) is quite nice to look at.

Relationship skills: He's been told that he's quite easy to get along with, and has a type of aura that lets people feel like that can come cry on his shoulder. But his down side is that he can be very blunt and has a difficult time sugar-coating his words.

Habits: Tends to twirl one of his braids around his fingers if he's not paying attention or day dreaming. Looks off to one side if he's lying and stutters whenever he gets embarrassed.

Hobbies: Drawing and writing poetry. He tends to get a lot of ideas and can be found with ink stained fingers from his doodling or writing.

Napping. Whenever there's nothing to do Iori can be found curled up in a patch of sunlight napping the afternoon away.

Virtues: Cheerful, studious, sharp, patient.
Flaws: Pessimistic, a little naive, a loner, and at times has difficulty expressing himself.
Overall Personality: At first glance Iori is the ideal healer, he's cheerful, patient, and kind. On second glance he seems lonely and content to have his head in the clouds, when he's grounded back to the present he will happily tell everyone that the world is going to end if they don't follow the rules.

Personality key question: How would your character spend a rainy day?: If it was his day off Iori would look outside his window and sigh before getting up to make himself a snack. Perhaps he would go and take a bath or if he was in the mood, he might sit down by his window and write a haiku or draw the way the raindrops are rolling off the leaves. If he's in a particularly good mood he might bundle himself up in his rain gear and go spend the day outside. If he has to work, he would look outside and see the rain and make preparations to help the people who would end up with colds because of the weather. This would include getting together a healers kit that didn't rely on Reiki to work. Tonics, pastes, and teas are just a few things he would get together. Things to help reduce fever, chase away headaches, ease coughs and break up the mucus building up in the sinus passage and in the lungs.

And of course he would forget the one thing that would make the children happy: lollipops.

How do they dress?: More often than not Iori is mistaken for a girl by the way he dresses. He wears the traditional uniform while on duty and when off he wears a mixture of yukata's, boot cut jeans and graphic tees, and qipao or changshan depending on his mood. The fact that he would wear the qipao, which is a females dress, doesn't seem to bother or register with him.
Favorite Sayings: "Hey it's going to be alright, you're still breathing after all." "Ouch! Don't do that! You know I can't feel it." "Ouch! Damn it, looks like I got blood all over myself again."
Vernacular: A mixture of formal and informal depending on the setting.
Overall Style (Elegant, shabby etc.): Unconsciously elegant, but when attention is drawn to him he becomes clumsy.

Abilities: Iori is good at both healing and enhancing techniques with a bit of offensive skills thrown in for his general safety. His policy is that if he can't out run them, well, he's just going to have to try and out last them. His skills in close combat aren't anything to laugh at, but at the same time it's obvious that he isn't built for long drawn out battles.

Signature Technique: He comes equipt with the standard techniques that would be useful to a healer, Horyou, Reiseki, and a variation of Shibaru no Jutsu used to hopefully restrain a person who is doing more damage to themselves then the wounds they have are.

His own technique is a currently unnamed skill that transfers wounds. Meaning that Iori can take the wounds of others and either inflict them upon himself or the current enemy that they are fighting. Doing so inflicts a strain on the body of the one he is healing as well as himself and the one he is giving the wound to. If he is the one taking in the wound it feels as if his entire body is caught in a split second seizure. Obviously it is far more dangerous for him to carry the wound since once he has passed his pain threshold he no longer feels the wound, and in the heat of a battle that could be fatal for him, as he would end up bleeding out.

Reigen name: Hehua (Lotus Flower)
Container: The small jade pendant that holds a carving of a lotus flower that Iori wears on a black cord around his throat.

Reigen false-form: A slight shower of transparent lotus petals that fall around him with a larger more solid looking lotus blossom in his hair.
Release: Thousand years of silent slumber, awaken Hehua!
Reigen false-form ability: Whoever the petals of Hehua touch becomes blessed and they take less damage in combat as well as gaining a small boost to their normal healing rates.
-When Hehua's ability is activated the transparent petals billow out to encompass as many allies as he can safely touch. If he really stretches himself he could touch about a brigades worth of men (~five thousand people). Anything more would lessen the affects of Hehua's ability. Whoever is touched by Hehua gains a slight blue shimmer to their skin and becomes more resistant to impairing effects, especially those of a curse-typed nature.

Reigen true name: Xian Hehua (immortal lotus flower)
Reigen true-form: Hanwei Wushu Broadsword
Release: Thousand years of silence, a thousand years of waiting, feast upon the decaying flesh no longer. Rise Xian Hehua!
Reigen true-form ability: No longer a defensive and enhancing weapon, Xian Hehua becomes a broadsword with an edge sharp enough to cut through metal with a couple of swings.

Xian Hehua has the ability to mark an ally with a Lotus Seal, though the more people marked the more of a strain it is on Iori and the less affective it's second ability is. The marks are placed upon Iori's allies using his precision point Reiki abilities using the blood of his enemies, or in a pinch, his own blood. The Seal takes the appearance of Xian Hehua's container, a small stylized lotus blossom. It can appear anywhere that flesh is bared as all it takes is but a two to three second stare for Iori to place the seal. If the person is garbed with a lot of clothing, or moves too quickly, Iori might not be able to place a mark on them. His seal doesn't work on non-organic matter.

The secondary ability is that every time the weapon touches the blood of it's opponent it heals those marked by its seal for a small amount, as well as giving those people a small enhancement to their reflexes. The more blood and flesh tasted by Xian Hehua, the more of a boost those marked by the Lotus Seal obtain. But, the longer Xian Hehua is in combat with the secondary ability activated the more Reiki is drained from Iori.

Division Number: 6
Reason for Choice: Izumi's skill at precise Reiki useage has made him quite the oddball even among the healers. It is unknown if his skills at conserving Reiki while getting the most out of his techniques will bleed into the other skills he possesses or not since he was rarely commanded to enter combat situations, even though he does have combat experience.
Previous Service: Division 4 where he trained his Reiki to the levels that they are today, before he felt his calling as a healer and transferred over to Division 6. In Division 6 he fine tuned his techniques as well as learned new ones adding to his collection. It is here that he learned that he was capable of shaving down the amount of Reiki needed to heal a person.

Aspirations: Recommended by his old mentor and driven mostly by a need to be somewhere that grounded him, Iori found himself accepting the recommendation to become Division 6's next captain. Though in his heart of hearts he hopes the he doesn't get the position that he was recommended for, but the one below that, or one of the top four chairs. He feels this way because he knows that he still has a lot to learn to become a more competent healer, even though to others he already is.

Burn, with an inside flame.

Not a complaint, but definitely curiosity: In the rainy day response, it says he'd make preparations to help the people who'd end up with colds? What would those preparations be? I'd love to have a little more info on that, just because I'd like to know more about what he does as a healer, given that he's a candidate for the captain's position.

He kind of reminds me of a bird.

Wouldn't a more accurate policy be if he can't out run them, he should try and outlast them, type deal? A healer with high pain tolerance sounds like a really effective meat-shield >.>; Sounds like he could take quite a beating. I'm not sure if "beat them down" sounds like the best policy, is all.

Is his pain threshold an ability, as well? I don't think it would be a natural thing unless adrenaline or something came into play. In the event of a reiki technique, though, it seems like his tolerance of pain at high levels being a danger should go hand in hand with an automatic off-switch for pain at higher levels.

I love his Reigen, and his release phrase, but I don't really understand how the release relates to the blessing? Does it refer to a folk-story? How does the blessing of the false-form help people take less damage (ex. does it cover them in layers of reiki which create a superficially hardened skin, does it make a shield bubble, does it make weapons slow down before hitting them, etc?).

"Feast upon the fallen blood no longer" sounds kind of like the opposite of what the reigen is then supposed to do. If it turns into an offensive weapon, there should be blood, should there not? It's really interesting that the weapon has a seal and an offensive move. It might be interesting to mesh the two abilities together (ex. the seal is stronger if painted in the enemy's blood using the sword point, etc). Not only would that kind of move take the precision of a surgeon, thus demonstrating his paramedic-captain potential, but it would make the two abilities of the Reigen true-form even more complimentary.

Just a small note... if you're not aiming for Captain, then you're aiming for one of the top seats, except you're filling out the captain form... You could maybe commit all the way, and instead of saying that he's aiming low, aim higher and make in-the-top-four-chairs your "well, that would be cool too"? It just seems a little odd to list him as a candidate early on in his bio, then back out with the disclaimer in the app, and then follow up with a kind of yes, he was indeed recomended. I didn't really understand the complex dance of Is he? No. Is he? Maybe. Until I got to the end of the Aspirations text and it finally said he wants to be a lower chair, not that he hasn't been recommended for captain, and it's a personal preference thing. Perhaps if he's not ready, you could indicate further up that he'd be a future applicant, OR that you personally are throwing him up to be a captain, but as a character he would be reluctant and feels that he has more to learn. I dunno, might just be me.

I really like him! For what it's worth; I think he sounds like a consistent character, and I can picture him. I like the details you give him, like looking feminine due to the dress he chooses sometimes, or how he likes green tea, or gets bloody often and treats it like nothing. Very awesome XD I certainly hope to see him made, someday <3

Valid points Valid points!

I was originally trying to make him a combat healer and I succeeded in a few points, but with the core points of him that ideal seemed to have fallen short. With his policy changed to 'can't out run 'em, will out last 'em' it should feel a little more solid that Izumi is a Battle Healer now. Especially with his still unnamed unique ability to transfer wounds. If you think about it, that technique alone would let him outlast a lot of opponents, so long as he had the Reiki to maintain the ability and the stamina to continue fighting.

On a second note, that ability of his could also be considered a long range attack. Transfer a near fatal wound from one person to someone important within seeing distance. Of course using the ability like that would probably KO Izumi pretty quickly...and I don't even want to think about how long it would take for him to recover and what the backlash would do to him.

Sheesh, Izumi is starting to turn into a pain freak who can't even feel the pain inflicted upon him.

I'm thinking that his high pain tolerance is going to actually be an unconsciously used Reiki ability triggered by a certain amount of adrenaline. Because with an absence of working pain receptors the sense of hot or cold would be dulled as well I think. I know those born without pain receptors can't feel hot or cold, so it would be good to add something like that in with Izumi. So if he were to become conscious of his pain ability, he would be able to turn it on and off, and eventually work it into a use-able ability, perhaps by other people. Also without the constant drain of the ability, his Reiki pool would be far larger then what he thinks it is.

But for now I think that he'll be ignorant of the ability and it will get worked into the RP if he gets chosen to made.

Well i dont think there is much for me to say. I just finished reading all the info and i think you have a pretty solid character.
I like the idea you have for explaining his high pain tolerance, i think it would be nice for future RP.

I also like the fact that he has trouble sugar coating his word but that he is good at writing (kinda what happens with me so i can relate to him in that) How ever the fact that he is blunt and a loner with the fact that people come cry on his shoulder seems a bit...contradictory?
Is he a loner because he doesn't like being with people or just because he enjoys having time for himself?

Er...i think that's it. i'm sorry if i didnt make sense >x< and i hope it helps!

oh! and if he enjoys other people's cooking he might get along pretty well with my Rosetta xP
