The sun settled at a 45 degree angle from the surface of the water, still rather early in the morning. Rushing past jagged rocks, the unforgiving river tore away at the sediment and slowly eroded the rocks around. The canopies of large trees shaded the forest floor below. Bushes were alive with small creatures and trunks teemed with insects. If one lay close to the water, daring to venture down the rocks, a cool spray would be found. Small fish could be found swimming through the water towards the lake, either with or against the current. The current was not too fast, although a young pup would not survive it. It was swimmable for the wolves with strength. One would have to be wary, however of the sharp rocks
xxxxxIcarus padded lightly towards the jagged edge. Cerulean eyes flitted from side to side as he analyzed his surroundings, ensuring its safety. With a nod he figured the area was safe enough and walked forward. The looming rock in front of him had a cliff-like end. Carefully, he peered over it, glimpsing the rapid current below. White ears flattened against his skull as he gave a small gulp. Slowly, he walked away from the dangerous edge and instead chose to find another path down. After searching with his pale-blue eyes, there appeared to be a step-like formation cut into the rocks nearby.
xxxxxA wave of fear washed over the bright being and instead of walking over to the water's edge, he sat down. A white-tipped plume of a tail flicked side to side as he pondered taking the risk. He idly licked his maw, imagining the taste of the fish that could be found below. A low rumble escaped him as his mental struggle continued.

His one good eye looked out at the horizon; the sun looming ahead, illuminating anything it touched. Including his white fur. He looked even more like a ghost than ever. His eyes shone as he stare out. He walked along the river bed, not taking notice of rocks or insects that happened upon his fur and caused his flesh to twitch under. His muscles, strong as he was, moving and bunching as he walked was a sight to behold. Vestip tossed his head back, getting the red tuft of fur from the only eye he could see out of.
Yes, as handsome as the wolf was, he was blind in his right eye. There was no pupil, so how could he see? Without caring about the orange dot he spotted not too far ahead, Vestip wadded into the water. He wanted fish, and nothing could stop him. Not even the jagged rocks beneath his paws. He felt skin starting to split and tear as he continued walking until he was neck deep.
Now he played the waiting game. If no one disturbed him, that is.

xxxxxIcarus took in a deep breath. He gathered his courage and decided to enter the foreign liquid. Only recently had he witnessed his mentor be washed away by the same river. The thought of the battle sent a shudder down his spine. It was time he learned to swim. He rose slowly, standing proudly. Then he padded towards the jagged steps. Each pad was placed with extreme caution on the slightly damp stones.
xxxxxHe peered down at the water he had feared so. The sun that filtered through the canopies above glinted off the water, creating flickering patterns along the underside of the leaves. He scanned the water, hoping for a movement of sorts. It was then his eyes foung the handsome white beast wading in the river. Pale-blue eyes narrowed at the sight of the wolf being able to pad through the water with such ease. He resisted the urge to call out to the wolf and simply watched him for a moment.

He didn't notice the orange dot int he distance looking at him. Instead, the half blind male closed his eyes and listened. He felt the water shifting around him, the sand between his toes, himself slowly sinking in a little deeper until he hit something more solid under the silt deposit here. Then, the fish came back. They'd been disturbed by him entering the water and were drawn back because he was so still; gotten used to the water moving around him when he breathed.
Several long minutes passed, about ten, before Vestip's head snapped down into the water. His jaws clenched around a fat, big fish, and he pulled his head up, snorting water and wincing as he got slapped in the face by the fish. The more it wiggled, the harder the white male bit into it, until the blood was pouring down his chin. Thank you for the meal, he thought, looking up and smirking a bit before moving back towards the shore. However, he took the long way; walking further along the river, going in at an angle, eventually getting back to the jagged rocks that threatened to break his claws and the calloused pads of his feet.

xxxxxIcarus watched the wolf appear to stand still as a statue in the water. For a moment he felt like questioning what the white male was doing. He titled the orange mass of his head to side in a questioning pose. Suddenly the beast snatched a fish straight of the river, snapping his maw and crushing the prey. Red blood stained his white coat. Then he padded out of the water and onto the rocks.
xxxxxPale-blue eyes trailed down the river and back to the water infront of him. It rushed past dangerously, almost. Though, he wanted a fish. His stomach called for food to satisfy it. With a heavy sigh and a gulp Icarus threw himself into the river with a large splash. A yelp escaped his throat as the water took his legs from below him and thrust him into the river. For a moment, a panicked Icarus was caught under the surface. He washed down the river for a few feet until his scrabbling paws caught hold of a rock and he managed to right himself.
xxxx A quiet whine snaked through him as he felt his orange fur plastered to him. Cold water rushed past him, sending shudders down his spine. A sigh bubbled out of him as he tried to walk through the water. Evidently, he had chosen a deeper section compared to where the white wolf had fished. Icarus wadded through the river until he found a shallower area. Cerulean eyes probed the water for a sign of fish.

He'd seen the orange wolf dive into the river. And at that same moment, Vestip tossed the fish toward the shore, not caring if it was going to make it or not to run. Running under water was hard, but here he tried. That orange wolf wasn't strong enough to face the river; it was obvious to Vestip by his size. While he didn't say anything, he tried to get to the orange male before...
There he went. Under the water and probably panicking. Now that he was deep enough, he dove under the water and swam with all of his might. While his depth perception was off, he could still try, damn it! But then he saw the other emerge again and walk toward the shallows, and he followed in suit.
Until he was standing about four feet away. "Shouldn't even be in this river until you're bigger." It wasn't stated in a mean way, just a statement. His voice was deep and soothing, like silk and sandpaper.

xxxxxIcarus shook his entire body. Water sprayed as he pointlessly shook the liquid off while standing in the river. At least most of the fur that had stuck to him was no longer flat against his body. His cerulean eyes fell upon the wolf he had admired previously suddenly so close. I minute flinch caught his body for a second as the brute seemingly appeared out of no where. Icarus had likely missed his approach while struggling with the water. For a moment he wondered if the wolf had come to save him, had the rapids done worse damage. This teased the corners of his lips upwards, a semi-smile, at the thought of generosity from strangers. It was rare, though appreciated.
xxxxxWhite ears twitched as the deep voice breezed past his ears soothingly. His pale-blue eyes flicked with anger as he understood the male's words. Icarus was bent on proving himself to the adults. He had not been taken seriously in the second round, fear of hurting a youth had overcome the warriors and had brought upon their demise. A triumph he truly had not earned, was given him because of such attitudes. He realized these thoughts were immature, hating to be looked down upon.
xxxxx Ears flattened, he realized that the wolf was right. The rapids were too strong for a wolf his size, it would be a liklier task for when he came of age. Something then struck him. Icarus had not seen this wolf before in the clearing. He tilted his head to the side, momentarily forgetting the fish that were starting to return. "You're a strange face, have you met the other wolves yet?" He asked, wondering if he had passed through the clearing further north.

Strange face, eh? Vestip let an easy grin spread across black lips before he let out a deep, almost a purring like chuckle. Oh, that was so cute. The larger male of the two pressed his black nose to that pale one of the teens and gave him a wink with his blind eye when he backed away. Maybe he was a strange face, with his tuft of hair that didn't seem to be common place. But, he let it fall into the eye he'd winked out of and finally shook his head in an answer to the question.
"Perhaps you're the first. Perhaps not. I've traveled from the north, though, seeking something other than solitude. Seeking companionship? But not to be tied down to one place or one wolf. I suppose you could call me a loner, or a rover, which ever you prefer. I've heard whispers of things much more ....distasteful said about me." The grin stayed, though it was clear he didn't care what others thought of him.
Vestip could be considered a horrible male; sleeping with male and female alike, then off the next day without an explanation. If he found the right wolf, however, he would keep that wolf close to him, but never be solely belonging to that other. A free lover is what he thought himself as. He hated fighting. He would honestly rather stay neutral, but with his nature... it was hard to do sometimes.
"I am Vestip, young wolf. Who're you?"

Icarus was surprised by the wolf's sudden closeness and touch. He felt an eerie feeling creep over him as he registered the wink. His fur bristled lightly, displaying his discomfort. A light warmth seeped out of him, his own body reacting to his emotions and attempting to soothe them. A questioning look passed over his pale-blue eyes as he heard the stranger's story. For a moment his eyes fell upon the small extra tuft of fur that hung over one of his eyes. Sure, he had seen wolves with extra fur around their necks, but not one such one their face.
He cocked his head to the side as the words finally ended with a question. Icarus let a few moments pass by before he spoke. "I am Icarus, of the Haven Pack." He replied with a gruff bark, choosing formalities. He allowed what the white, black and red wolf said sink in for a second, waiting for the click.
Suddenly it made sense, and what he heard sounded very different from what he had learned, the ways he was used to. His eyes flicked for a moment, but soon focused on the wolf once more. He idly pondered the true history behind the male.

"I'm Vestip. ....From no pack that I claim as my own," he said after a moment, thinking long and hard. No, he couldn't claim any pack as his own. Most packs would take one look on his personality and kick him out anyway. Commitment and settling down... Icarus could have all of that. Truly he could. Vestip wasn't going to answer questions if it was related to why he was in a pack.
He was so good at avoiding them. He continued looking at the orange male and smirked a bit and tossed his head to get that tuft out of his eyes again. Oh, he knew wolves found that part sexy. "So... what are you doing here? It's dangerous, you know."
