The memories of waking up to the soft glow of blue crystals was not all that distant to the teen hyena. The crytal den had been his home for all his life. Ylva and even his father Asa had provided a safe enough environment for the pups to play and live. Kumo couldn't remember a time he had wanted for anything.
But he felt he had out grown the den for the most part. It was time for him to be off on his own to maybe find a place he could settle.
The hyena had a sachet tied around his neck that held all kinds of herbs he had picked while living in his families territory. They smelt like home and comfort. A little memory of what was once his home. Ylva had said he could always come back if he liked but the male didn't think he would take his mother up on the offer.
It was his father Asa, the reason he was leaving. Asa was not an unkind soul. No he was very warm and caring, to his mother and siblings of darker color, but to Kumo and Biku he had been just a little cold. Always kind though but distant. Kumo felt like something was wrong with him. Honestly it made the young male a little cold and bitter about living with his parents.
So now here he was in the vast plains of Africa. Only the little sachet around his neck with the familiar smelling herbs reminded him of home. There was no turning back now.

Each day it seemed like she wandered farther and farther from home. Akeakamai could not help but wonder if it was safe, but she didn't see any reason why anyone would want to harm her, so she figured that it was alright.
"Hello, birds!" She called to the pair of hawks soaring above. "Can you hear me?" She shouted as loud as she could, staring up at the sky as she walked through the grass. She went a little ways and then stopped, frowning. The birds did not answer. Were they unable to hear her, or were they just ignoring her? She hoped it was the first one.
"Well that's not as much fun. It's nice to have someone to talk to." She mused, "Normally I have my brothers or mama to talk to but it's just me today..." She paused. "Well, I can talk to myself, that's fine!" She grinned, trotting along briskly, "How are you doing today? I'm good, how about you? I'm great! Want to go play?" She giggled as she held her own conversation, bounding aimlessly around the grass with no regard to who might see or hear her.

The males ears flicked. He heard voices? Close by... No it was one voice. Strange. The teen switched directions and headed toward the strange small voice. Normally he wouldn't bother checking on a voice, but this time he couldnt help it. Kumo wanted to see what was so interesting. Had he come across a story teller in the middle of an epic tale? He was close enough to hear that some one was talking but he couldn't hear what they were saying. He got closer and the closer he got the more female and child like the voice sounded. The male stopped and looked around. Strange, no one seemed to be around. Was the wind playing tricks on him? Kumo tilted his head.

Akeakamai giggled madly as she bounded around in the tall grass. "Oh, I'll bet you can't catch me!" She barked, running around in circles quickly. "I bet you I can!" She began to chase her tail furiously, her tiny body too small to reach. "You're really fast!" She laughed, "Alright, you win this round, but I'll get you next time!" She snorted, greatly amused by her game. "I wonder if it's possible to play hide and go seek with oneself?" She mused, wandering around again while staring up at the sky blankly. "Wha-?" She gasped, suddenly finding herself on the ground. She had managed to run into something furry. "I... Oh hey!" She grinned up at the male. "You just came out of nowhere! How are you?" She asked, standing up and shaking the dust off of her pelt. "Sorry I ran into ya there."

The male felt something hit his paw. He lifted his paw up in surprise. Just what the hell.... He looked down to find a little hyena. The owner of the voice no doubt. What was a little pup like this doing out with out her mother. Kumo raised a brow feeling a bit concerned. He had always been under the watchful eye of his mother. Though, living with Ylva, it was hard not to be under her watchful eye. "What are you.. doing," He lifted a brow. There didnt seem to be any playmates of hers near by. Was she playing all by her self? He lifted a brow at her. "Are you being chased by spirits or something," His tone was a little mocking. He tilted his head. Either the playmate was cunning at hiding or this little girl was crazy.

"I'm just playing, mister." She giggled, bounding around him and sniffing at his feet. "Would you like to play with me? Hey what's that?" She asked, suddenly interested in the pouch around his neck. "Smells funny." She sniffed at it, making an odd face. "What's in there?" She tilted her head at him, curious. "What's a spirits?" She asked, looking around. She didn't feel like she was being chased. "I don't think so, I think I'm just being chased by myself. I can't always catch me, though." She admitted, "That's okay though, I'll get me someday." She plopped down on her rear in front of him, her tail wagging as she stared up at him. "You aren't from around here, are you? Naw, I would have met you before if you were. Are you passing through? We get those a lot, but sometimes we get hyenas who stay." She nodded, "My pack, we live over there." She pointed with her paw toward the valley in the distance. "It's alright if you are passing through though, we're nice and don't chase off intruders or anything." She realised that she was beginning to ramble, but she didn't much care. It was infinitely more interesting to talk to someone else than to talk to herself.

The male listened to what the girl was saying very careful. She was excitable wasnt she? No one in his family was like that and he hadn't played with many pups out side of the family to really socialize with other puppies. So this behavior was a tad alien to him. Not that he totally minded , because he didnt. Kumo was a litter perplexed though about how to react to one so young and playful. "Oh this?" He looked down at the sachet dangling from his neck, "Its herbs from home." He didn't bother explaining why he kept it around his neck he just answered the question with a simple answer. He wasn't one to go into much detail. "A spirit?" He was trying his best to keep up with her excitment. "Uhhh.. its like a being thats invisible I suppose." Man she was firing the questions and chit chat right at him. Kumo watched her as she talked. "So you're from a pack close by..." He eyed her, "Its not safe for you to be out here all alone," He felt his protective nature take over. Seeing a pup out here all alone just made him a little uneasy.

"Herbs? You mean like plants?" She sniffed at the satchel again. It didn't really smell like any plants she ever smelled, but if he wasn't from around here then maybe they had different plants there? Yep, it was probably that. "Invisible?" Her jaw dropped. Was that even possible? "I want to be a spirit! It sounds like it'd be fun to be invisible!" She giggled to herself at the ideas of what she could do if nobody could see her. "Do you know how to be one? Can you teach me?" She stood up and began to bounce a bit, excited beyond belief. "Not safe?" She stopped bouncing, now confused again. "Why not? You're not goign to eat me, are you?" She doubted it. If he was going to eat her, he wouldn't be so nice. "I mean, nothing wants to hurt me, I didn't do anything wrong." She reasoned with herself aloud. "But then again, I'm not alone anymore, I have you! What is your name?" She asked, suddenly realising that she didn't know his name. "I'm Akeakamai, but my family callse me Mai for short."

Kumo couldn't help but crack a small smile watching the little female bounce around. She was strangely excitable. He avoided her question about the spirits figuring he had dug him self a bit in a ditch with THAT one. No way was he going to explain something he wasn't fully sure of. There was no logic there. The female brought up a good point. He was here now wasn't he. "Suppose your right. Though there are plenty of creatures round these parts that might want to eat you for a little snack," His face sobered from the smile. Kumo had alot of his mother in him, she was usually dead serious most of the time or pissed off. The male wasn't always pissed off but he had a serious nature to him. "I suppose I can watch you then and make sure nothing bad happens," He mumbled mostly to him self. He was in no hurry after all. Hopefully he wouldn't anger a momma near by. Hopefully. Kumo plopped down on his side lazily. He had been padding along for quite some time now and he was tired.

"That's silly." She snorted. Why would anyone eat her for a snack? It's not like she was very big. It made a lot more sense in her mind for them to catch something bigger, but then again she wasn't very experienced when it came to hunting. Perhaps it was best to have someone bigger to protect her, even though she didn't really FEEL like she was in any danger. Oh well. She stared at him with a puzzled look as he plopped down. Was he pretending to be something? She did that quite often, playing pretend that she was another animal just for fun. "You being a hippo?" She giggled, "That's a funny animal to be, but it looks kind of comfy." She admitted, flopping down beside him and opening her jaws wide. "I'm a hippo too!" She said, "But there's not any water here, what do we do?" She asked, pretending to be frantic, though not very convincingly. "We have to find some water or we'll shrivel up!" She stood up and began to take big, slow steps around him. "Come on, Kumo, let's find the water!"

A hippo?
"You're wei-" Before he could finish his sentence she was actually doing a hippo like walk. Kumo stood up.
"Im not walking like that," He had to smile on the inside watching her walk like that. "I'll go with you but I m not walking like that."
Ylva would probably be amused if she watched him walk like that. He wasnt sure if that was a good or bad thing. Asa wouldn't say anything.. Would he? Kumo blinked.
He moved a paw slow and then another... Was he really doing this. This was stupid..

Mai smirked. He might not think he was going to walk like her now, but just wait. He'd see how much fun it was, everyone did. "Follow me, mister hippo! I know where the water is." She said in the lowest voice she could manage. Fortunately for her the watering hole was very near to where they were now, and it didn't take long at all for them to reach it.
She continued her slow walk, leaning from side to side with each step as if she were much larger than she really was, until they reached the watering hole. She bellowed loudly and flopped into the shallows, a few inches of water feeling nice on her fur.
"There we go, nice and wet!" She said, still opening her jaws as wide as she could when she spoke. "That's the best way for a hippo to be, yup yup." She rolled around in the shallow water before crouching down and blowing bubbles with her nose, making sure not to inhale any.

((Sorry late late late reply ))
Kumo followed after her in silence. He made sure to move his paws as slow as he could just like a hippo. This was stupid... so stupid. Why was he doing this. Kumo couldn't help but secretly smile at how much fun the little female was having in the shallow water.
Slowly, he put a paw down in the water. It was cool and it felt nice on his paw. He slowly put down the next one.
"I suppose," He spoke slowly too watching the female have a good time in the water. Kumo felt silly.
