Calixte took a deep breath filled with relief. The forest surrounded her, cool and beautiful. A river gurgled somewhere off in the distance, and a breeze whispered through the trees. It was such a stark contrast to the beach she had just left, with the rough sand and harsh sun. The forest was much more friendly; it was soft with moss and thick with cool shadows.
Walking a bit further in, she found a suitable tree to lean on and closed her eyes, hoping that her land legs might come back to her soon - she could not run, for the dizziness and disorientation overtook her with every step. The sea voyage had left her weak and unstable. Closing her eyes, she rested against the tree, silently asking it to share some of its energy with her. She waited for a surge to come, but she felt was a tiny trickle of power - hardly enough to help her recover. Resigned to waiting for the tree to understand her better - the ones in this strange land must be hard of hearing - she drifted off to sleep.

It had been a hot morning and Einar decided to go for a mid-morning drink at the near by river. He crouched down lazily drinking while thinking on what he wanted to hunt. It seemed his mind was made up for him when a rabbit hopped into a near by bush.
He crouched along the side of the river readying to pounce. Steadying himself he leaped in the bush making the rabbit give chase. He was mainly toying with the tiny creature...unsure if felt like rabbit for breakfast. The chase came closer to the edge of the forest right before Einar pounced, and caught the rabbit. He played with a bit and was about to kill it and eat it when he caught the smell of an outsider.
He released the rabbit, giving a small snarl. He moved more into the shadows of the tree. He smelled the air and he smelled the trees, but one scent came through as something else, but he couldn't quite place it. He moved up a tree or two-staying to the shadows to find out what/who he was smelling. Then he saw something leaning against the tree. It appeared female and to be a foreign soquili of sorts (as was he).
His stomach grumbled at him, his hunger was wanting to take over. He crouched in the shadows of the forest, the air turned still. Einar prepared to leap on the new creature.....with a snarl he dashed forward and jumped from the shadows, letting out a loud roar as he landed an inch from the strangers face, ready to strike; teeth bared....

A roar startled Calixte from her nap by the tree, making her stumble back in fright. Her eyes widened when they lit upon the animal in front of her - a huge stallion with a cat pelt attached to his hide. And very large... pointy... teeth. Unsure of what to do, she backed up further, a bit scared. Her instincts told her to run, but there was no way she'd be able to outrun him. She gave him as calm a gaze as she could manage, glowing eyes to glowing eyes.
"Hello," she said cautiously, praying to bide some time - those fangs looked dangerous, and if she'd ever seen a predator ready to attack something, he was the picture of it. "I am new here... Am I intruding?"

Einar was bemused by her reaction of fright. He stared at her, trying to figure out what she was...soquili or strange plant... When she spoke to him he just snarled at her and leaned his head closer sniffing her. "What.....are you? Some weird plant/deer hybrid?!"
He circled her examining every aspect of her. Her eyes glowed like his, but she appeared to half-plant or something. He snarled at her and let a low growl settle in his throat. "Where ever you hail from....you should return! Your luck I don't eat you....(under breath~too much foliage~)"
He then started walking sideways still looking at her, then fully turned to walk back the way he came with a slight pause and glance back for a last examination. He snarled and bared his teeth once more and turned to continue walking.

Calixte leaned back as he sniffed at her. "I am not a plant, nor am I a deer!" she said, rather offended. "I am a dryad, a friend of the forest. What are you?" she asked, no longer afraid of offending him, though some part of the back of her mind told her that offending him would most likely be incredibly stupid. He'd offended her first - what was the saying? A sin for a sin?
"I cannot return, for my ship has set sail back to the land from whence it came," she said, very tempted to stick her nose in the air. "And I am afraid I would not be much for eating..." The trees whispered to her for a moment, telling her of an evil he had committed. "Did you not just kill a rabbit? The poor thing died of fright!"
She leapt in front of him as he tried to leave. "You have done a wrong, and you have not told me your name." She glared at him, the always-attentive butterflies in her mane fluttering frantically as they tried to get out of the way of the snapping leaves. Her mane often had a mind of its own, and this time, it reached out and aimed a scratch at the stallion's cheek.

Einar was impressed with the so-named Dryad's 'spunk'. He looked back at her and slightly glared. He snarled at her, but spoke again. "If your transport has already departed might I suggest swimming." A amused smirk adorned his face now.
He started to move around a tree to stay in the shadows as much as possible when she continued to talk. His eyes started to glow a bit more as he moved with the shadows as the changing light affected them. " I did not physically harm that rabbit, I can't be blamed for it's poor little heart not being able to take a small game of 'cat-and-mouse'." He said most 'matter-of-factly'.
She had now jumped in front of him, yelling at him no less, but it phased him nonetheless. He glared down at her letting a small growl escape his throat. "I've done no wrong....besides...it would have died w/o pain had YOU not been lazily leaning on a tree in my territory!! So if there is to be blame, let it partly lie with you!!!" He knew her 'hair' had scratched him, but he did not acknowledge it.
He started to move past her, but stopped when his body was even with hers(though he towered over her significantly) and whispered, "Why should I give my name to the likes of you....one who does not belong, nor has given me her name...or a reason I should let her LIVE while she stands in my territory!", his voice grew to a yell/slight roar and he had turned his fully to her and looked right down at her...glowing eyes to glowing eyes.

Calixte scoffed. "Swim? You go for a swim and see what it feels like. Your pelt will weigh you down and you will sink to the bottom of the ocean, and you will be gone, and no one will care." Huffing, she turned from him, leaning her shoulder against the tree for comfort. "I know you not, and yet you already dismiss me."
She peered around the tree, seeing nothing but his glowing eyes. "You have done something most are unable to do," she whispered at him through the darkness. "You have made me angry." A little louder now, she continued, "Even causing its death is enough. You were not made to play with more delicate beings than yourself – have you never heard someone say ‘Go pick on someone your own size?’"
She stiffened a bit when he was unmoved by her outburst. "Your territory? The forest belongs to no one, boy. I will take whatever blame need be taken, but you will never own this forest. You cannot control it, and so you cannot own it or call it yours." A small hiss emerged from her mouth. That was one of the few things she hated – others claiming ownership of things that could not be owned. She calmly called her mane back to her, and the butterflies settled once more. She spared a moment to coo and calm them, but looked up abruptly to meet his eyes when he stopped next to her. Finally able to hold her serenity in place, she gazed at him with unblinking eyes. "You will allow me to live, though you may harm me," she said, moving away to allow more respect for her personal space. "And if you will listen, I will tell you my name if you wish to know it."

Einar was again impressed with her 'spunk', but not as much the second time...He looked at and smirked at the thought of swimming, surprisingly he liked to swim and was very good at it. He moved closer, sun was sneaking through the trees and the rays seemed to bounce off his pelt. He listened to her words uncaring for the most part. Smirking at her he mocked her slightly, "Oh I may the little one angry, Im terrified!"
His tail switched in an agitated manner as he took another step forward. " For your information, I don't play with what I plan to play with creatures I don't plan on eating. It is unfortunate that I'll not have that rabbit for a snack later....spoiled goods, pity!". he said with a devilish expression.
With her next words his expression grew hard and very cold. "BOY! I am no mere child! I share this area of the forest with the forest it self, true, but it is still MY territory! I'm part of nature....ever heard of the 'Food chain'?! I'M at the TOP! I don't have to let you live! You don't know how lucky you are that I've lost my Appetite! Next time you cross me, Little Girl, I may not be as forgiving of an OUTSIDER!!", he said with his eyes flickering in an odd manner and a fierce roar.
He was now fully in the sun, inches from the strangers face, resisting the urge to strike. With a snarl he turned and walked to a small pond about 25ft. away and stared in the water. He glanced back over his shoulder and softly spoke his name, "You can call me Einar........ ~insolent little brat~" ending with a faint whisper, barely caring on the wind. With that he dove in the water and submerged his entire body.

"If you think the rabbit has been wasted, you can still go eat it!" she called after him as he jumped in the pond, then sighed. It was no use. He was too hard-headed. She walked over to the pond and lay down beside it, crossing her front hooves delicately. She waited for him to come up so she could give him her name.

Einar, watched her from under the water...this was her chance to leave, but she choose not to...probably just to berate him some more. He decided he was done soaking in the cool water and thrust himself towards the surface, causing a very big spray of water to come up with him. He broke the surface with enough force to then leap to the shore. "The rabbit was no longer my pray and is by now spoiled and simple buzzard food, they have to eat too.", he said with a sly smirk and sideways glance at her.
He walked around the small pound to stand on the other side of the female. He knew she had more to say and would patiently wait for it, as he lay down lazily.

Calixte could see nothing but his glowing eyes under the water... And then they were suddenly closer, and she was drenched. Coughing a bit, she turned to face him, shaking her forelock out of her eyes. She realized that he had given her a perspective she had not considered before. Eying him a little warily, she said, "I guess you are correct..."
As he lay down next to her, she stood up. "My name is Calixte, but you can call me Cali," she said, and then leaped into the pool, hoping to get him a little wet as well. She broke the surface a few seconds later, wanting to see the results of her actions.

He lazily looked at her with one eye and gave a low growl, "Nice to meet you." and closed his eye again. He heard the splash when she jumped in and was a little wetter then before, but thought nothing of it as he stood to look at her again. "Thanks, the sun was getting a little warm again.", he said with a smirk at her as he moved over to a large tree with far stretching branches. He lept up to next to lowest one and lay comfortably letting his tail hang down.

Cali smiled. So Einar could take a joke. She watched him leap into the tree with an unnatural grace. Treading water, she ducked under and took a healthy swallow before coming back to the surface. "How is it that you can climb a tree with your hooves?" she asked, curious. She eyed his twitching, feline tail. Odd, she thought, most don't have those here.

Einar's eyes glowed from the shaded tree top as he looked down and Cali's curious expression. "I don't climb exactly, I leap.....I am a technically part cat....cursed as I am." His tail flicked more frivolously as his expression hardened. "If sure if you concentrated you two could jump to that low branch there.", he notioned to a fairly low branch somewhat to his side.

Cali shook her head. "I am comfortable here, thank you," she said. She left out that she thought it was strange for a horse to be part cat, but odder things could happen. "Cursed?" she asked. "Who cursed you?"
