Ruka lowered herself into prime pouncing position, her hind quarters waving slightly from side to side as she prepared to launch herself at her 'prey'.
Her prey was a huge, very fat frog that sat half-consumed by the mud of the swampy pool he'd settled himself in. His own private little pool...which was not going to be private for much longer. Not if Ruka had anything to say about it in any case!!
And with that, she launched herself at him, her forepaws splashing in the mud, causing a tidal-wave of gloopy water waving out to lap at the sides of the pool. The frog, utterly startled, leapt up and smacked her clean in the face. She blinked, her turn to be startled now, as she tried to understand exactly what had happened.
Had the frog...attacked her?
She tried to find it, but to no avail, and she sat back, reaching up with a paw to wipe her whiskers, only to smother them - and half her muzzle - with mud.
Oops...

Something had put mud all over him! The blind male had slipped away to play from the rest of his siblings when he realized no one was around and talking to him. Because of his blindness, his other senses were only slightly heightened. They weren't fine tuned yet, so he couldn't sense anyone near him all the time.
But he'd been walking along, trying to find someone to talk to, or play with, something, when he was suddenly covered in mud. The dark blue cub whined and shook himself out, only to slip and fall flat on his face and stomach. "OOooow.." A rock had connected with his chin and caused him to whine even louder and roll around with his paws to his chin like the little cub he was.

She blinked again, surprised to hear another so close by. Had it been the frog? Had the frog said 'ow'? Could it be magic? Had she almost captured a magical frog?!
A grin spread across her face and she was suddenly filled with a new want to find and catch this frog. Then she'd have a conversation with it and ask about what it was like to be...well..a frog, of course!!
So, still not seeing the other cub, she began to bat the reeds around with her paws, looking keenly for it until suddenly she came across the cub she had splattered with mud. "Oh, hello! What're you doing down there?" She tilted her head so she could better see him. "Saaay, you didn't see a frog go by here, did you?"

Had he seen.... That kind of made him sad and mad, but not everyone knew he was blind. So, Shubho stood up and shook himself off again, rubbing his chin with one paw while 'looking' at her directly with dull green eyes. "I haven't seen anything since the day I was born," the boy said with a soft smile. Hopefully it showed her he didn't mind not seeing anything.
"So...I haven't seen your frog. But! I heard him. I think he jumped off my head and went...." he thought a minute and pointed, "this way. If I felt right, anyway. I think it... was a frog..."

She blinked. "You haven't...seen?" Tilting her head - a habit of her's it seemed - she stared long and hard at him, even taking a moment to wave a paw in front of his face.
He couldn't see her, then?
How...how weird!
"Ah well, seen or felt! If you know which direction he went then it's all the same, right?" She grinned, suddenly. "Want to join me on a frog hunt? It's bound to be pretty awesome." Her grin widened. "I can't wait to catch him and tell everyone about how he can talk!" She apparently hadn't caught on that it hadn't been the frog at all...
"So, what d'yah say, huh? Huh?"

A.. talking frog? How awesome! The male nodded and wagged his tail, grinning widely. This was the first time he'd gone on an adventure that wasn't his family! "Yes! Let's find this magical talking frog and figure out who to show! Maybe it's like... a God or something. Do you think it's a swamp god in disguise?" Oh, to be young and dumb.
"Though, I'll have to have your help moving through the land. 'cause I'm only used to near my den. I haven't been.. this far away from home before!"

Her eyes widened. She hadn't thought of that! "Ooo, could be! Actually, you might be right! It'd make more sense than just a random frog deciding to talk. Maybe if we find him, we'll get a reward, like a blessing or something. That'd be super cool!"
She was bouncing now, clearly excited with this new possibility.
"Oh, sure, sure, no probs!" She padded up to him, brushing against his side as she passed by. "I can stay at your side and make sure you don't get into any troubles!"
She pawed at the soft ground eagerly. "Oh, and I'm Ruka, by the way. What's your name?"

"Shubho! Most call me Shu, though. Or Bho." When she brushed up beside him, he walked the direction she was going. "I just don't want.. to go face first into trees or something! I've done that many times before. I really need some bells on the trees or something to let me know they're there." Now he was complaining to her, and that was a good thing. That meant he felt comfortable around her.
Shubho liked her already because she didn't pity that he couldn't see a thing. Maybe some light, but that's it. no shapes or colors. Not a thing. "So... Yeah. If we get a blessing, what should we ask for?"

"Shu it is, then! Short names are so conveeeenient! I guess you could shorten mine to Ru, but, I dunno, doesn't sound as good as Ruka, does it? Not that it matters...I won't always be Ruka." Which made her sort of sad...
"But never mind about that, let's go get that frog!"
She laughed. "Don't worry, Shu, I'll make sure to warn you of trees or anything. Walking into stuff like that can't be much fun. Buuuut, if we stick together, nothing can go wrong! I promise!"
She padded along slowly, her voice good for guiding him if nothing else.
"Hmmmm...I don't know. But it'd have to be something cool! Maybe something that'll help on our pilgrimage? Like...like...wings! Wings would be cool, wouldn't they? And travelling would be sooooo much easier!!"
She was...enthusiastic.

Wow, she was a talker! Shu didn't know if any of his siblings talked this much! With a big laugh, the male nodded and swirved to, what he hoped was, her other side and attempted to n** her ear. Buuuuut, he was shorter, which meant he got her cheek fur or some other kind of fur.
He blinked at that and arched a brow. "Are you older than me? You're taller, obviously. Your voice is all... up there and I can't get to your ear! Wings would make that so much better. So yes! Let's ask for wings if we ever find this frog."
He dipped his head and sniffed at the ground, looking for any frog like smells. Though, everything smelled like mud right now. Stupid rain.

She giggled at his attempt to catch her ears and lowered her head to buffet it gently up against the side of his face in retaliation.
"Yup! Bit older, I guess!" She replied. "Don't know by how much...but it doesn't seem like that long ago when I was really, reallllly small. Like, much smaller than you! Don't worry, you'll get bigger soon, too! Bigger than me, even, since boys tend to be bigger than girls, right?"
She skipped onwards, grinning. "Wings it is, then!" She didn't even consider that even if the frog had been a god of the swamp, that wings were probably out of it's power's capabilities.
Then, following his lead she dropped her head and began to snuffle around the mud, pawing at rocks in an attempt to overturn them. "Hmmm...where is that frog! I can't believe it would hide from us like this! We're not going to hurt it or anything!"
And then the sound of a croaking frog reached her ears and she lifted her head again. "You hear that, Shu? I reckon that must be him! Must be! He sounded close by..."

He did hear it! The frog that was so elusive from them was signaling them down or something! He whispered to her then, "Maybe it's a trick. I bet he's the other direction. Like... 'cause he doesn't want to get captured. Or it's a test! That's it. It's a test so we can't find hi-" THUMP! He hit a tree. Because he'd wandered the other direction while talking because he couldn't do two things at once.
Silly boy! He whined and said ow again through the whine, sounding just like the frog had!

"What a tricksy frog indeed! But he can't outsmart us! We're lions! And even little lions have more brains than those hopping little critters, right?!" She blinked, laughing and turned back just in time to see her newfound friend colliding with the tree.
"Shu!!" She bounded towards him, horrified that she'd let him move away and hurt himself! She really shouldn't get so distracted!!
"Shu are you--"
She froze, blinking. "He's near you, Shu! He's near you! I heard him again? Did you hear him speak. Please tell me you heard him speaking!!" And she charged towards him, intent on leaving no rock unturned.

He forgot about his pain when she said she heard the frog. Shubho listened carefully and frowned. Why couldn't he hear the frog anymore? Was it just for her? "I don't think he likes me anymore! I can't hear him anymore." He 'looked' around despite being blind. Just 'cause he couldn't see doesn't mean he can't control his eye movement. "Ruka, maybe.... he's your magical frog? Maybe everyone gets a magical frog when they get older!" That could be it, right?
