It seems like people spend a lot of time on it. I've seen a lot of great south park fan-art in just 2 minutes. What I've seen is better than a whole lot I've seen for other shows, especially the south park shounen-ai. Why do you think that is?

Weel, South Park has the intellectuall satire and sarcasm combined with base juvenile and potty humor.
Between the two it appeals to most marginalized sub cultures.
Also South Park kind of revolutionalized the animated world by animating the relatively esoteric media of torn paper collage, something usually left to avant-gaurd expresionists .
Plus, stylistically it's easy to rip-of---I mean tribute.
but primarily, just because it's funny.
