~How I See You~
By APuckett

I look at you and see,
a diamond amongst the rocks.

I touch you and feel,
the warms of a summers day.

I listen to you and hear,
a symphony as sweet as you.

The Night

Few things intrigued me as much as the Night, filled with it’s dark secrets, set alight by gleaming stars. I remember looking out my window and taking a deep breath of that wonderful Night smell. Looking up, my eyes found a ravaged moon, no more than a sliver of white hanging motionless in the near black sky. The next night I stayed up late. I climbed through my small window and into the soft summer grass. I walked quietly to the street, wishing that the streetlights would go out. The one closest to me flickered, and with a click, it’s light disappeared. A few moths dropped from the sky, startled by the sudden lack of light. I was submersed in gray darkness. Though not enough to blind me of my surroundings, it limited my vision drastically. I envied those who could see clearly Night’s secrets. Those nocturnal creatures that hunted ones like me who were reduced to nothing more than blind prey in the dark. I shivered at the thought of someone or something watching me… preying on me.

Flying

By: Toxic

For once in my life, I was soaring. The waves were passing below me, then wind was flying in between locks of my dark hair. The salty air felt delicious. The sun was setting perfectly into the seat, reflecting, causing me to squint. The wind was making me a little chilly but I didn't care. I was flying.

Can you define love?

Once, a several years ago now, a teacher asked the class if we could define love. I don’t know what she was getting at, probably something about art and relativism and abstract concepts.
I told her a story about how my father had given my mother a bouquet of flowers for her birthday and that no one else had ever given my mother flowers before.

I said “That is love.”

Remembering back even further, there was a time when I was at a sleepover camp. All the girls in my cabin were sharing stories about ourselves; what our families are like, our siblings and interests. I noticed how I was one of the few in the cabin who didn’t have parents who were divorced. I thought that was amazing considering how my parents had never gotten married and were actually common-law.

I thought “That is love”

This past March my father had a heart-attack, we called 911 but he was still without oxygen for over half an hour by the time they had his heart started. By the Thursday the doctor had pulled us aside and told us that he was brain-dead and that there was less than a percent chance that he would ever wake up. The next day an old friend of his arrived and she and Mom visited him one last time in the hospital. She stayed with him after they shut down the life support while my mom waited in another room; she’d already seen him die once.

Was this love?

Over the weekend we found out that this friend of his, who had come to stay with us has actually been having an affair with him for over a year. All those strange phone calls with no answer which my father would immediately return, all those letters initialled R.W. were from her, his “Red Woman.”

Who did he love?

My Mother found an old case full of his journals and started reading them. She discovered a lot of things he hadn’t told us about. Turns out that he was once married and had four daughters before me, and I always thought I was an only child. He left his family to go with his old friend. The same old friend who became his “Red Woman”, and who was herself married to his children’s teacher. He never got a divorce and he never told us about the marriage.

Did he ever love her?

I always thought my parents were so deeply in love. They were friendly and affectionate and they put up with each others failings. (Dad was not the cleanest individual, and an artist besides, while my mom had mood swings due to a thyroid disorder.) They met roughly ten years before I was born and they stuck together for more than twenty years to raise me.

Wasn’t that love?

I don’t know.

Prompt #12

Memories that cut

They say time heals all wounds, But it's not true.
Lies, betrayal, deceit.
Wounds that slowly poison the mind.
It eats away at me, slowly, deeper and deeper.
I look around desperately, will anything fill this hole?
It's like my heart is bleeding and nothing, no one, can fill it.
Where is my healer, my bright star to clear away the darkness that surrounds me.
I scream to the heavens, i scream to the hells. Someone, anyone save me from this poison, this pain.
She haunts my mind, her words, their words always there beneath the surface. They ruin any relationship that starts, ending it before it goes too far.
"And he loves me, unlike you ever did."
"I don't see a ring on my finger, I can be with whoever I want to be with"
"I was only with you because it was convenient."

These truths haunt me, because I remember the lies...
"I'll always love you."
"Will you be my husband? I want you and only you."
"I'm not like those other girls, I'd never hurt you."

So as I stand here, staring at myself in the mirror. The bottle of pills in my hand, I take another pill. Trying to shadow the sorrow in medication, while praying for my healer. To escape the memories that still cut me.

Being Gone

It is 10:00 am and you can't see light.
You are surrounded by darkness.

You feel nothing at all.
You look around and see nothing.

You move your hands.
You move you legs.

You try to speak.
But all that comes out is nothing.

Not a breath.
Not a word.

Have A Little Fayth ::

Footsteps. It is nearly ten at night, but the footfalls echo endlessly, almost eerily, on the concrete sidewalk lining the left side of the city's main street. Multiple shadows rise on a wall as a figure dressed immaculately in black walk beneath the golden-white hued streetlamp. Then, the shadows are gone, stretching out to hide from the next upcoming circle of lamplight.

It was only when surrounded by this sort of light that a distinguishing feature could be made out - the slimness and lithe figure could only be that of a teenaged girl. Said girl paused on the corner of a street, the lamp above her flickering once or twice. Suddenly, the only nearby light source was coming from the pharmacy a few doors down the street. The lamp above her had burned out.

Shrugging it off, as if that sort of thing happened every night - it did, kind of - she waited on the corner, hands shoved into the pockets of a baggy black jacket with wings etched onto the back.

“All that is gold does not glitter.”

Another being, this one consisting of shadows and darkness, shifted closer. She glanced up, eyes narrowing at this smokey and insubstantial thing. A demon. Her demon. Her informant.

The Little girl of Innocents

Poem by sassybrat1994

Hidden behind
The world,
The little girl,
So young.

She yet not know,
The horrors,
Of are evil ways.

She doesn't know
From right,
To wrong.

She can not
Tell a lie you see,
For a lie,
She doth not know.

She sits upon
The swing set still,
Waiting for a push
Of will.

She does not know
Are evil ways,
She only knows,
Her innocents.

But one day
She will learn,
And she will feel,
The pain,
We have all felt.

She has been taken
Far away,
And now she knows
Are evil ways.

Of hurt and pain,
And all things bad.

But one day,
She will also see,
The joy of life,
In every way.

In laughter,
Hugs and kisses too.

But for now
Just let her be
The little girl of innocents.

Invisible
By: Toxic

Why am I always alone? How come nobody ever talks to me? The more I think about it, the more I wonder. I am not the average girl. Let's just say I am below average. I have no friends. Not the perfect clothes. Could this be the reason? It probably is. But through it all, as in the pain; the heartbreaking stab I feel within my chest, I realize that I am just simply...Invisible.

Painful World of Ignorant Living Things
-----------------

Simple Destruction,
Painful election,
lover of hatred,
death is the truth of life.

Peace is unwilling,
making doves crying,
thats why they are constantly turning black,
burning away the white in the world.

Lifeless animals,
Fire just burning everywhere,
arrogant souls,
Is this pain?

Ignorant, incompetent, information,
chilling my sour creaking bones,
regurgitating kittens,
oh sad little mittens, he died,
all because of the pained, hurt,
incompetent humans ruling over a dark cursed world.

My sweet dream
It was midnight and the moon was full. I heard howls coming from behind me. I was lost in a forest of darkness. I went to take a step forward when something grabbed my waist. I couldn’t scream because of shock. I slowly turned my head and saw a gorgeous man. His face was snowy white and his eyes were midnight black. His hair was long and pulled into a pony tail. It too was midnight black. I was struggling to get away, but he was too strong. In fact, he was stronger than any human man. He easily turned me around. His eyes were watching my every move and action. I couldn’t get away and I was too easily distracted by his beautiful eyes. They were filled with sadness and pain, but the more I looked into them the more I could see that he had other things on his mind. I stuttered out a word to keep myself from getting any more lost in them than I already was. “W-what do you want from me.” He smiled and touched the side of my cheek. “I want you.” “What!” He embraced me in a tight hug. I closed my eyes as I feel his hand rub my back. His touch reminded me of a father comforting his child. “You remind me of father.” His eyes looked pained at my comment. “Why is that”, he said with a small smile to cover his sadness. “I don’t know, I’ve never had a father to experience that but I have seen it before.” He raised my chin so that I can look at him. “Can you be my queen of the night”? I looked at him confused and thought to myself, “That’s awkward”. I shrugged off the thought and asked, “What do you mean”? “I want you to become my vampire queen”. I frowned, thinking he was playing a trick on me. “You stalk me and make me think that you’re going to rape me. Now you’re asking me to be something that’s not real”. He smiled at me exposing sharp teeth. His eyes changed from black to a goldish brown color. His pupils became cat like. I studied his face, trying to figuring out what just happened. I caressed his cheek to see his eyes better. Even if it was dark, I could still see them. It was as if someone flicked a switch in him to turn his lights on. “There beauti----“.
I ended up fainting. An hour went by and I was back in my room. “I think I woke up from a dream”, I said quietly to myself. I lazily got out of bed and walked out to the living room. I looked across the room into the kitchen to see my mom drinking coffee with a man. I rubbed my eyes and grabbed my mom’s coffee. As I took a sip I looked at the man’s face. I chocked on the coffee while trying not to spit it out. “Yo- you’re real?” I backed up to the living room and fell on the couch. He got up and followed me. He stood in front of me. He got down on one knee and grabbed my hand. He gently kissed the top part of my hand making me blush. I looked over at my mom. She was smiling. “That’s weird”, I thought. Her eyes looked like they had no pupils. They looked lifeless. “What’s wrong with my mom”? “Nothing, she’s perfectly normal”. “You’re lying to me.” My mom got up and walked over to the couch and sat down. “Mr. Vlad saved you”. “Yeah but don’t you care why this man or whatever he is, is kissing my hand?” “He saved you so it’s only right to respect him and his actions.” “Yeah whatever you say.” “Don’t speak to me like that young lady.” “Yes mama.” He smiled at me and kissed my hand once again. I couldn’t help to blush. This man creature thing is kissing my hand in front of my mom, who is obviously in some kind of hypnosis.” I quickly changed the subject. “What happened to me?” He looked up at me with a serious face. “I found you in my forest, near my castle. So I brought you back home. It took a while getting here since my castle is a couple hours away from here.” “Oh ok.” Mom had a weird smile on her face and looked at me. “Oh yeah, I almost forgot. He wants your hand in marriage and I’ve agreed. Isn’t that great?” I had a shocked face but quickly changed my expression. I looked down at the floor thinking. I slowly got up and walked to my room. I could feel their gazes burning in to me. I walked back in my room and shut the door. I stood behind the door so no one could come in. The doors lock was broken and it didn’t lock, that’s why I’m standing against the door. I stood there thinking about what was going on. I could hear heavy footsteps coming towards my door and stopping. I knew it was him because of his shoes. They had chains on them. Out of know where he shoves the door open, causing me to be thrown across my room and on to my bed. He quickly walked in and closed the door behind him. I got off my bed and stood in front of it. “It’s rude to walk away from your fiancé like that”. “I never agreed to the marriage, or did I”? “If I say yes would you believe me?” “No, I think you would be lying”. “Then no, but that could change”.”I don’t even know you”. He grabbed my hand and used his other hand to touch my cheek. “You do in your dreams”.
