Well, kind of. This post on WoWAce says that any addon that uses the inspect function will have delays between their requests; in laymen's terms, addons that work like GearScore will work slower or not at all. Sometimes the server will not even grant the query a request. I'm quite pleased with this turn of events, perhaps the game will go back to a kind of gear check that does require the armory and looking at people instead of just stamping a number on them. It makes putting together a raid or a guild just the right amount of work. How do you guys feel about GS getting the nerf stick? How many of you remember gear checking people before this addon existed? Do you guys think there will be a way for this addon to work around this problem, or do you think it will eventually go away?

I always check people on WoW Heroes.. show what gear they have; and what they have done so far. It also has that little bar so you can see how their gear matches up to what raid.. in the green you can do it, yellow.. meh you'd probably be fine, in the red.. uh.. get some gear! XD
People are just lazy though and don't want to do that work.. they'd rather use an add on. D;

Going back to TOC? 5k GS minimum! Back to Ulduar? 5k GS!! Ony? 5k!! Molten Core? You better have 5k GS or dont bother whispering for invite! People seem to have just picked the highest average and demanded that for every raid in the game. I'd be glad to see the addon go, but somehow I doubt they wont be able to work around this problem

On mine they ask for 5.5k-5.7k crying The only way I could really see this addon disappearing entirely is if Blizzard did something with their itemlevel tags that did the same but more accurately, or just breaking it. I'm just praying this change breaks it, but I doubt that'll go so far as to happen.

I don't have the addon. I don't have much use for it. I do not pug. And when I do want to see what someone's gear is like (that generally only happens when they are applying to the guild), then I check them on armory anyway because I want to make sure their gear is not only a decent level but also appropriate for their class and spec, gemmed and enchanted properly, and I want to double check their raid experience. Bacchant Going back to TOC? 5k GS minimum! Back to Ulduar? 5k GS!! Ony? 5k!! Molten Core? You better have 5k GS or dont bother whispering for invite! People seem to have just picked the highest average and demanded that for every raid in the game. 5k is very low. So even though I don't put much stock in gearscore, I actually wouldn't blame people for asking for more than 5k when putting together pugs. Because if a person has less that 5k, they're probably not putting much (if any) effort into raiding and gearing. Even my alt who I never play and have only taken into ToC like one time is almost 5k.

5k is low now that everyone is running around in ICC 25/ICC heroic.
I dont think the average going into ICC was higher (or much higher) than that. Going into ICC 10 from TOC 10 definetly was not.
The fact that you guys are saying 5k is low proves my point. 5k totally outgears any content lower than ICC. Requiring a player to outgear content in order to partake in it is ridiculous.

I agree that old content does not require a 5k+ gearscore. It's just that people don't generally run old content for progression anymore. They run it for achievements, the weekly, etc. And that generally means they want to get in, blow through it, and get the hell out. So that's why they generally want higher gearscore people, people who don't need any old gear, people who know the fights, etc.

You can run TotC 25 with a 3.8k gs.. I did it on my Druid.. she was tops heals yo. XD
For ICC I think 4.8k is the minimum gs.. and that's pushing it.. I think it's fair to ask for something like 5.2k gs for ICC 25.. I mean it's not hard to get that.. if you can't get that you're just being lazy!~ I think my Druid that I run a 25 ICC GDKP on once a week is at 5.4k.. and that's with me being super lazy.. I don't do a heroic everyday to get frost so I can get T10.. my frost comes from whatever I do in ICC that week.
Most PuGs on my server want 5.5k gs.. or they want achieves.

My server has a 5k min on ToC, 4.5k on Uld, and 5.5k on ICC. on top of that though, you need the achievement to go in, where if your like me, you cant raid with a guild due to your schedule and can only get in through PuGs, and you dont have the achievement. i have only killed the first 4 Uld bosses, cleared 1 Naxx wing, Os reg, and Malygos because of this. i stepped in ToC once, but the group couldn't pass Northrend Beasts.

Sadly, GearScore did *not* get broken by the recent patch.

Gearscore is just everyone's wow-peen. Incidentally, I recently got a new weapon, it rose my gearscore, but my stats were worse rolleyes
I've been told "Gearscore let's players know your max potential".
So detached!

The biggest problem with gearscore is that PvP gear is scored higher then PvE score. So even if someone has over a 5K gs that doesn't mean they're correctly geared. They could be in PvP gear.
