A cacophony of sirens, racing engines, alarms, and gunshots greeted Emily as she stepped into Players Gotta Play. The arcade had just opened a couple months previously, and the smell of new plastic still lingered despite the sweaty mass of hormones that gathered there daily.

Emily looked over the scene before with a certain sense of admiration. All these young people, gathering to challenge one another and hone their reflexes, hand-eye coordination, and zombie survival skills! It was a most excellent showing of people focused on self improvement. it was tempting to join them right away, but she herself had come here with a specific goal in mind.

As she navigated around both games and onlookers, not a few people paused to do a double-take as the small teen passed by. A handful recognized her from previous visits, but the majority of the attention was due to what she called her "DCW Training Gear."

While Emily's typical Mary Janes, black ruffled skirt, and red ribbon were all pretty standard, the Don Diablos t-shirt was a bit out of the ordinary for her. The Don Diablos wrestling mask, however, was a bit out of the ordinary for anyone.

Unmindful of the attention, Emily approached her target with a militant glint her eye, and a steadily growing sense of determination. DCW: Deathmatch. This week she was definitely going to get a top score.

Arcades were always noisy, but Sydney supposed it was noisy in a good way. The screeching car tires of a racer. The sound of machinery crashing into exploding buildings. Gunners shooting down their opponents. It was like a boisterous welcome that blocked out the rules of reality—what only mattered was getting the top score.

She had only discovered this particular arcade just recently, a week or so at the most. Surprising, since the redhead tended to wander from one place to the next and always discovered the newer businesses. But Sydney was here now, right? That was the important thing.

Her lanky self was casually seated on the plastic stool, the screen casting a bright glow on her face. Grinning, she smashed the final combination of buttons that KO’d her opponent. The character’s satisfying scream filling her ears, Sydney chuckled and lowered the cap of her baseball hat to obscure the top half of her freckled face. Too easy.

Idly spinning in her chair, her eyes caught an unusual arcade-goer. The Mary Janes and ruffled skirt immediately cried ‘girl’, yet the Don Diablos t-shirt and matching mask said otherwise. The stranger’s gaze seemed to have locked onto Sydney and she smirked, crossing her arms and leaning forward onto the dashboard. She wasn’t all too familiar with wrestling itself, to be honest. It was just that the game was entertaining and fun to play.

“Wanna play a quick round?” she inquired. “You can go first, if you want. I won’t mind.”

Emily looked the person in front of her up and down, part of her mind trying to identify gender (feminine voice) and age (a good foot taller, and a bit mature looking), while the majority of her attention was on how casually confident the other looked at the machine. To make a challenge and then offer her first go at the game?

A quick round!?

As if Emily was going to allow herself to get defeated quickly? The determination that had been burning within the smaller girl was suddenly stoked into a blazing passion. This person didn't know who they were dealing with! Reaching into her pocket, she pulled out two tokens and held them aloft in a challenge pose reminiscent of Don Diablos circa his WWE:Warlords days.

"There will be nothing quick about this," Emily finally responded, slapping the coins down on the dash. "...unless you plan on giving up right now. Otherwise: game on."

Sydney perked an eyebrow at her, amused by the burning look in the other girl’s eyes. Had she said something she shouldn’t have? Most of her friends would have happily agreed, probably most of the arcade players here as well. Although Sydney’s choice of words probably weren’t the best either. Oh well. She chuckled and swerved around in the stool, facing the dashboard and flicking in a pair of coins herself.

“Oh yes, I fully intend to give up right now,” she joked, smiling as her eyes eagerly gleamed, waiting for the game to begin.

Her attention never strayed from the game screen, taking her time as she scrolled through the list of characters to play as. Hardly considering herself to be a wrestling fan, the names were completely foreign to Sydney. She simply picked a wrestler that seemed to have decent fighting capabilities and she was taken to the wrestling ring, the game’s voice slowly counting down.

“Three. Two. One. Go!”

As per her promise, she waited for the other girl to make the first move. Her fingers poised over the controls, ready to punch the buttons at a moment’s notice.

Momentarily confused, Emily just stared at the taller girl. She said she was going to give up? But she didn't look like she was at all! Was this a ploy to throw the maid off her game? Ha! As if such cheap tricks would work here. With a small, "Hmph," Emily took her seat, rolled her neck, and settled into position.

She picked Don Diablos, and...the other had picked...

Behind the mask, Emily's face twisted into one of utter, complete disgust. Angelic Avenger awaited her in the ring, taunting her with his lame challenge of, "You stand at the Gates of Judgment!"

Was this person serious?

Sure, he was the city's top fighter but who could possibly want to fight using that...that...winged...stupid...mercy giving...

At this point, Emily was practically on vibrate, and as soon as Don Diablos finished his challenge of, "DON DIABLOS IS GONNA SHOW YOU HELL!!" - he was off, flying through the air toward the angelic menace.

"Hellbow Extreme!" Emily cried out, in the habit of crying out the names of attack she knew, and making up names for the ones she didn't.

Perhaps this girl was too serious to notice that what Sydney said was clearly a tease—or maybe she was just too serious to say anything about it. Either way, the redhead figured that this girl needed to lighten up a bit. She shrugged and leaned forward, her elbows resting on the board of the machine, fingers poised by the buttons.

Sydney’s gaze glued to the screen, she was oblivious to the fact that Emily was silently seething with utter disgust at her character choice. Even if she had managed to catch a glimpse at the emotion in her eyes, there wasn’t much she could have done to appease her. The match had started, after all.

The choice of Don Diablos was obvious, judging by the stranger’s shirt and matching mask. As soon as the glowing character jumped, her fingers hurriedly smashed the appropriate buttons for a swift dodge. Angelic Avenger rushed forward just in time to evade the attack. Sydney would have immediately turned around and counterattack, but the sudden cry of Diablos’ battle move startled her. Gaze flickering to the masked girl, she furrowed her brows before concentrating back on the game. Hardcore.

She smashed another set of buttons, maneuvering forward for a swift clutch.

Feeling smug at her opponents initial failure to counterattack, Emily decided to go with an all-out offense, and simply lay waste to the enemy. Which brought her to this particular screen. This horrible tragedy of a scene. A small sound of frustrated disbelief escapes the small girl, as Don Diablos kneels before the Angelic Avenger, whose voice cries out, "Kneel and receive Angelic Mercy!"

No.

This could not happen.

Ever.

"NEVER!"
Emily's warcry resounds throughout the arcade, clear even over the usual gaming din. Her wrists begin snapping with vicious efficiency as she taps and flicks Don Diablos into a less nightmarish position. "I underestimated you, Miss," she begins grimly, eyes still fully focused on the screen. "But don't think I'll be doing so again."

She could definitely respect the skills of the person beside her, but the other girl's taste in character was not something easily forgiven.

Sydney remained focused on the screen, ignoring the smug aura that radiated off her opponent. Her expression keeping a cool, blank stare, she instinctively smashed another combination of buttons to swerve out of Don Diablos’ attack. While playing games like this, the redhead never really had that many thoughts whirring about her head. Who would? Just focus on the game and what to do next. She stoically watched Angelic Avenger jump into the air with a surprising amount of grace, his arms stretching out like wings. Really, isn’t that a bit much? she skeptically observed as she quickly dove in for another attack.

Watching the nameless girl’s character kneel at the mercy of her own character, she smirked as she leaned back to relax for a second. The outraged shout coming from across from was startling and Sydney nearly jumped out of her seat. Awkwardly smiling as she slowly eased back onto the smile, she answered, “Don’t you think you’re taking this a bit too seriously?”

Turning back to the screen, she gawked as Angelic Avenger was pummeled to the ground. “Oops. Guess I need to pay a bit more attention,” she mumbled sheepishly, wriggling her way out of Diablos’ hold.

So they continued to battle each other. One around after the other. Sometimes Sydney would win, yet other times Emily would get the better of her. The redhead could have continued on like this for the rest of the day, but alas she did not have the time. She glanced at her watch.

"Oh fu----" She grumbled various obscenities under her breath as she frantically stood up, leaving Emily to finish her off with one final move. "Sorry, gotta go! We'll finish this later, okay?" Sydney pointed at the masked girl, firmly determined to settle the score. After confirming that they would have a rematch later--somehow, someday, she ran out of the arcade.
