The sun had barely begun painting the sky a light color of grey when a black hind woke, picking her head up to sniff the air. The smell was what had woken her, the scent she loved the most. Blood. Slowly, Sarla peered out of the bushes that hid her little nest and looked at the bank of the river. Just as she had hoped, a very angry looking boar stood by the water taking a drink. His tusks were covered in blood, his face cut up. This male had just been in a fight with another, probably over some female, and won. And oh, how that gave Sarla chills. A prey that could, and would, fight back.

As carefully as she could, the hind crept from her enclosure towards the beast, body crouched as best as a deer's could. But with only a few yards to go, the boar looked up and saw the oncoming attack, snorted its defiance, and went dashing off towards the underbrush.

A snarl issued from Sarla's mouth as she blindly chased after it, tracking her new prey not only the sound it made, but the linger of blood it left behind.

Despite his natural inclination to be diurnal, Hellion preferred the night. Everyone was asleep, which meant there were less Herla around, and he was fond of solitude (well, for the most part). It was quieter. Small creatures came out from hiding to gather food, too, and that made for some delightfully fun times. On top of it all, he had no problem seeing in the dark. Not with those lantern-eyes of his. So, as the sun was rising, Hellion was eager to find a place to settle down for the day, away from the hubbub of it all.

Or at least, that had been his intention.

He'd noted the scent of blood in the air, but didn't think much of it until he noted its source. Funny looking creatures, these boars were. He remembered the doe - what was her name again? Sarah? Surrey? - showing him where they nested, but he hadn't gone back to test the metal of these creatures. And now...well, now there was one darting right by him. It would be silly of him to just let it go. He hardly paused to think before he tore after the creature, weaving through the thicker foliage and bowling right through the thinner vines and brushes. Nothing like a good before-bedtime workout.

The chase had gone for a solid five minutes before another scent entered into the equation. A stag. There was NO way she was letting someone else take her kill! With a burst of speed, Sarla could hear the sound of another after a few moments. It wasn't hard to mistake THAT stag, either. Hellion, if she remembered correctly, that annoying fiend.

Just the annoyance of his presence gave her another boost, sprinting to the max to catch up to him and give out a yell. "YOU! Don't you DARE think I'll let you take my kill!" Sarla would gladly fight him again over the hunt. That would make two fights in one night!

Aha. He thought he had briefly caught the scent of another herla, and he had been completely right. He had not, however, expected it to be this particular herla. He made his own irritation at her presence clear with a snort. So she was going to make this difficult for them? Fair enough. He would show her. Besides, he was coming to very much enjoy their little squabbles anyway.

"It is not your kill if you have not killed it yet, doe!" he huffed to her before dipping his head to avoid getting a nasty scratch from some overhanging briars. He would not let the female have the honor of catching this creature. Where would that put him? A very low place he did not want to be, that was for certain. He moved to the side in an attempt to bowl her over.

"My hunt, then!" She objected, coming up closer to his side. "It is MY hunt, and he will be MY kill. Go find your own, stag!" Sarla knew he would not back down, one reason why she almost enjoyed his company. But her eyes were too locked on the forest ahead to notice his sudden movement. The heavy nudge causing her to miss her footing and stumble, crashing into the underbrush head first with much shouting. Briers and branches everywhere, sticking into her sides and tangled into her horns. "YOU COWARD." She snorted, jerking her head up to rip off the foliage.
