I was listening to the radio this morning when a song came on that I made me think- 'Hey that sounds like the sort of song that Apollo would have if he had a theme-tune..'

So I decided to compose a list of possible themetunes for various gods and goddesses. It's a short list that I'm working on finding songs for all the Olympians, and possibly some monsters.

I chose these songs for reasons that I hope will show why I chose them. They emphasise parts of the God in question.

DIONYSUS: Mika's Grace Kelly
(A possible other one was 'Escape' by Rupert Holmes )
The lyrics made me think that it would be something Dionysus would sing if he was drunk and singing in the mirror.

DEMETER: Stravinsky's Firebird Finale

This song has is about the rebirth of things after they have died. I guess I associate this song with Demeter because of the Disney Fantasia film, but when it gets to the end and the powerful triumphant crescendo makes me think about when Demeter always gets her daughter Persephone back even though she loses her in the winter months.

APHRODITE: Roxette's 'She's got the Look'

Obviously didn't want to choose Bananarama's 'Venus' song, so I chose a song that I felt captured Aphrodite in a song.

HEPHAESTUS:Enrique Inglesias' Do you know?

The lyrics made me feel sorry for Hephaestus' predicament. He's in the situation where few people like him and the lyrics speak for that.

TYPHON:Stravinsky's Firebird Suite- Infernal Dance

This was famously used in the Disney Fantasia with the green wood spirit and the giant lava eagle. You can almost imagine the gods fleeing from Typhon when the music reaches a powerful point. (1.50-2.18 ).

APOLLO: I Love You But I've Chosen Darkness' The Owl

This music I feel captures both the musical and one of his other's sides The romantically unsuccessful one. The music is strong.

HERMES: Thomas Newman's The Rhythm of the horse

This piece makes me imagine him floating above the clods. It has that unwordly feel to the piece that just adds to Hermes' character.

POSEIDON: Joe Hisaishi's 'Dragon Boy'

This music, I feel, captures Poseidon as he rages and when he is calm.

ZEUS: Sixpence None The Richer's- There she goes again

I think this one is easy to guess why I chose it.

--------------------------------------

I will be adding more to this list when I find more songs to match various gods to.

But I love that song... cool and isn't 'she's got the look' a commercial theme as well?

Hmm what would my theme song be...

Angel of darkness

I think the title 'Angel of darkness' is more for Thanatos, don't you think?

That one's easy. Ares.
The song just 'reeks' of masculine aggressiveness.

This could fit any god really, but Time Will Tell by Dionysus. wink

And this one could fit almost any member of the Pantheon.
