Everyone has something different. I would like to hear how each of you did your own dedication (if you've done it yet) or how you've done it for someone else (in the case of priests and priestesses). Or even how you plan to do it (if you haven't yet). I'm asking this since an open circle I go to from time to time had a few people talking about this and I would like to bring this question to you all.

I haven't yet and probably won't for another few years. I will definately do the dedication by myself in front of the Lady and the Lord. I'll know when the time is right and I will do it then. Nothing largely elaborate or ornate, just a simple yet nice ceremony. I might do it during the day or night. In a forest or my room. It is all up to fate.

My dedication was probably the fluffiest thing I had done on my entire path thus far. I jumped right into it, reading a standard ritual off from a website, swapping in things here and there, and doing the whole thing skyclad in the middle of my forest. I remember thinking it was so cool, even though I was getting bitten up by mosquitos, but aside from the ego boost, I felt something profound and very secret and hidden. I remember trying to keep the candles lit in that summer breeze, and using the butter knife I had picked out an hour before as my athame. Aside from the bug bites, the extinguished candles, and afterwards wondering how I was going to get mudstains out of my good pillowcase (which served as my altar cloth), it literally felt like I was promising myself to something and someone else entirely. I knew it had to be more than just a passing fad, or something I would come to grow out of. I promised myself to the goddess without much thought (or studying, I would be a trad witches nightmare...), but in that I remember feeling a trust unlike any I had until then. I literally handed my complete trust over to deities I hadnt come to understand yet, but knew in my own ways I would, someday.

I guess my advice for others doing their own dedications is to do it the way they want to. you could read a dozen different methods by a dozen (or more) authors, but ultimately it has to be a creation all your own. It's almost like proposing, and to each individual it will have a more profound effect if there is something entirely personal about it. I know of people who have cast circles, called in the quarters, invoked, had representations of each element and all of their tools ready to be consecrated, and I know others who have sat by the lake and said their equivalent of "I do". For others, who decide to walk the traditional path, the dedication ceremony will be entirely up to that tradition, but also personal in a way. Whatever anyone chooses, in the end it will be an intimate step towards ultimately a new beginning.

We performed my dedication Tuesday night and it was kinda rushed and very quiet-like b/c we did it in my room with my mom snoozing right next-door, lol towards the end as i was getting ready to thank and dismiss the elements we heard some rustling in the hall-way and i rushed the ending of it. turns out it was just my lil-brother was heading into the shower. xp
