Solo
It was only earlier that morning when, during breakfast and morning cartoons, Finnigan was greeted with the sight of his oldest brother, bruised and in tattered feminine clothes, being rushed upstairs by their adopted mother. The Latios Betzalel watched on with concern as Belinda rushed to and fro across the household, grabbing odd things like medicines and Band-Aids for some unknown and foreign purpose. As she continued to run up and down the stairs, Finnigan turned to his brother beside him who was occupied with putting away his Cheerios.
"Hey... Y'know wha's wrong wit' Loo?"Amitola just shrugged and shoved another spoonful of cereal into his mouth.
"Duhnno," he mumbled.
Finnigan frowned. Amitola didn't particularly care about their older brother one way or another, but his current state was distressing to Finn. Why did he have all of those bruises all over him? Why was he crying? Did he fall down and get hurt? Did someone beat him up? Those were all awful! He just had to do something to cheer his brother up.
A new spark of determination alighting in his little heart, Finnigan ran from the kitchen table and snagged a loose piece of paper and his box of crayons. Quickly sketching out a rushed picture of a happy flower, Finn scampered up the stairs before running into his mother, who was looking quite weary. She sighed and knelt down to regard Finn at his own eye level.
"Darling, what is it?" she asked in a worn-out tone.
Finnigan shuffled his feet and adjusted his awkward grip on his picture.
"Uh... I wanna give dis t' Loo."Belinda groaned and rubbed the back of her neck tiredly.
"Rebenok, your brother Llujah is really tired right now. Can it wait until later?"For a split second, Finnigan considered this option. Theoretically, he
could wait until later to give Llujah his gift, but then Finn remembered how sad and unhappy his brother looked earlier. He needed to be cheered up, and his picture would do just that.
"No. Now." Belinda closed her eyes and twitches her ears.
"...All right, Finny. But be quick and be nice. Llu's had... He's had a rough day." Finnigan nodded and scrambled up the stairs to his big brother's room.
Before knocking on the door, though, he hesitated. Would his big brother like this present? Finn knew that bigger boys like his brother didn't really like flowers, but Loo liked them a lot. Would that be all right then? Finnigan decided to take a change and carefully rapped his clawed hand on the door. It was a few moments before Llujah slowly cracked open the door. His usually bright blue and green eyes were dulled, and his body was tightly wrapped within a large quilted blanket. He looked down at Finnigan and spoke hoarsely.
"...Yeah, Finn? What's up?"Finnigan kept his eyes down and held out the picture to his brother, kicking his feet sheepishly. Llujah lightly pulled the picture from his little brother's hands and regarded it for a second before looking back at the small Eilian before him.
"This is for me?"Finnigan nodded silently, hoping that Loo wouldn't be mad at him for anything.
"...Thanks," Llujah said, giving his younger brother a small smile, which, in turn, made Finnigan grin in delight. The little Betzalel giggled as Llu ruffled his hair affectionately and retreated back into his room, shutting the door behind him. As Finnigan started back down the staircase, he felt confident that he helped his brother feel a little better. He wasn't sure what was wrong, but if he could cheer Llujah up, that was all that mattered.
