I just saw the new character creation, and I'm already dissapointed by the limited choices in hairstyles. I heard from an article that FFXIV boasted a character creation setup that claimed would have you tweaking it and adjusting it all day before you settled on an appearance.
Now . . I look at the E3 thing, and I'm dissapointed. It also said it would take months to find your twin. I think I am going to find my twin in the first five minutes.
Thoughts on this?

I agree. Its Square Enix we're talking about here and they can't create more than 8 hairstyles?! Ridiculous. D:< Its only beta though, so they'll hopefully add more hairstyles by launch. FFXI only had 4 faces in beta which later got expanded. So there's still hope. 3nodding

I think you should realize that Alpha just ended, beta just about to start, and still everything has not been released or shown about this game yet. A more in depth character customization process should be available come full release, so be patient. If not I too will be disappointed but will move on as FFXI had insanely limited Character Creation options for its time as well but is still my favorite MMORPG to date.

Just have patience. All the previews where they talk about the hours of tweaking. They went to those writers and gave them a developers version of the game, so they could right about that.
The point of alpha and beta tests are to find glitches, bugs and errors. So they intentionally lock out the features that are working in full. They have repeatedly stated that you'll have many options from hair, scar, skin tones, and facial features.

I hope so. Hey Square! Can you develop a system that can let us design our OWN hair? Yes? . . No?
Darn, I'll never have a Lalafell with Sailor Moon hairbuns.

Judging something like this when the game is only in beta stages is stupid. There will definitely be more options available when the game is released, obviously they aren't going to lay all their cards on the table at E3 for no reason.
I don't think you should have any doubts about the character creation, I have a feeling it's going to be very robust. Even if it isn't on par with a game like All Points Bulletin atleast it will be better than XI especially with the expanded clothing and armor options.
I think I ran into my twin 2-3 times a day on XI.

D: ya I was so sad there was no long hair! Just like the girl making the video had commented. Out of 9 styles I only liked one, and I hated the bottom part of it! lol.. ::crosses fingers for more hair styles whee

I guess it makes sense. Long hair is a hindrence in battle.

Lady Cymberly I guess it makes sense. Long hair is a hindrence in battle. Long hair will most likely be an option, not all the chosen profession are up close and personal battle classes anyway. Though your theory does make sense.

I'm sure long hair will be an option. The Crystal tools engine can obviously support it, just look at Lightning's hair in XIII.
