Oh, it was one of those fine days when the sun was burning brightly in the cloudless sky and a soft wind was scudding across the land, cooling it and breathing life into the trees and the grasses that waved with its touch. There was an overwhelming peace and quietness to the place, as if a gigantic bubble had enclosed it and kept all bad things at bay, and all there existed within this bubble was an undeniable tranquility.
And Qaletaqa Subiani was bored; bored out of his mind. As a younger lion, he had spent his days frolicking about with his siblings, having stealth contests and hunting down imaginary prey. Now that they had all grown up a little and matured considerably, they no longer played at such games quite so often, and though Taqa did not usually mind solitude, he had begun to feel as though he had spent one day too many with only himself as company. As it turned out, there was a limit to how much he could take from that little voice inside his head that debated the comings and goings of life with him when nobody else could.
After all, coming up with counterarguments to one's own points did become a bit of a pain after a while.
The young lion made his way over to the inviting shade of a lone tree, flopping down against its slender trunk and rolling onto his back. He pushed a forepaw against the bark and gripped at it with his claws, tracing light marks against the brown skin of the tree as he did so. Ahh, art.
He squinted his violet eyes and turned his head to scrutinize the marks. Nope. Not really.
With a sigh, he untangled his paw from the tree and rolled back onto his side, lying sprawled in the shadow, eyes half closed. Well. This was fun...

Still in the throws of juvenile-ism, was that even a word, juvenile-ism? She didn't think so but she let the thought leave her any way. Still too young to wander too far on her own and mostly always under the watchful eye of her parents, Luyu had broken away from the hustle and bustle of her tribe. No that she didn't love being amongst her family and the rest of the bird clan, but sometimes it was all just too noisy and she just wanted a little peace and quiet.
She paused when she spotted the deep chocolate lion, his coat standing out with it's bright green tattoos. She felt drawn, inexplicably towards him, almost like a magnet. it felt odd being drawn towards someone she didn't know but she was young, naive, and she loved looking at other people tattoos! Her mother and father having joined the pride later in life had not been born here, had not been born of the traditions so they had very few tattoos marked on their fur, but this guy! Well, he was clearly an adolescent and his body was nearly covered in shiny green markings!
Padding up quietly, his back to her, she wasn't really sure if he heard her coming or not, she pokes him on the shoulder. "Hello?" She whispers her voice quiet like a twittering bird, barely above a whisper though very harmonious to listen to.
"I wasn't disturbing you was I?" she realized as she had prodded the male to speak to her that perhaps he was settling down to sleep. Opps! Looking at her paws her soft peachy tan fur blushes slightly red, how one could blush all over is a mystery but she managed to do it all the time. "I'm sorry, I should go!" She squeaks turning away quickly as if to make a swift exit.

"Mmmrf?" The little voice had been so unexpected that he didn't quite have the time to gather proper words in response to the quiet whisper. Oh, geez, he thought, that was smooth. What kind of an idiot answered with sounds like mmmrf?
Apparently Taqa did.
Rolling his eyes at his own splendid display of idiocy, he rolled onto his belly, his violet-eyed gaze landing on the peach-furred juvenile that had wandered up without his quite noticing it. "Oh, no, no," he answered quickly, wanting to stop the little lioness from leaving as quickly as she had come, as she seemed fully prepared to do. The prospect of a little company delighted him to no end, especially on a slow day such as this one. "You're not disturbing anything. In fact, I'd be much obliged if you'd stay for a little while - if you don't have other plans or anything, that is," he added hastily. The last thing he wanted to do was make her feel obligated to stay.
"I'll even share my shade with you, if you want," he joked with a grin.

She smiles shyly, nervously, hopping from one paw to the other before approaching him again, her eyes twitched about some, she was almost afraid to continue to stand there. Almost afraid she had upset him by being in vicinity.
He had offered to share his shade though and now that she hadn't scared him out of his fur, or tattoos, he seemed friendly. Not of her clan but yes, friendly. "Uhm, thank you." She whispers, her voice still quiet and twittery musical in it's own way, she sits and looks at her paws twiddling them for a moment before lifting her head to look at the older lion wide eyed and bushy tailed, as it were.
"I'm Luyu, Luyu Adagaue, of the bird clan." She smiles a little fluttering smile, her ears twitching. "Ilikeyourtattos." she says, possibly too quickly for him to catch her fur once again becoming a bright shade of pink as she said it. It was his tattoos after all that had pulled her away from her afternoon of loneliness.

"Yea, come on in," he shifted to make room for her, glad that she hadn't fled before she had had time to hear his offer. She seemed a little flighty, and he hoped that he wouldn't do anything to accidentally send her off again. He woudn't have been very pleased with himself if he did.
"It's very nice to meet you, Luyu," he said genuinely. If she hadn't appeared, he would have been doomed to an afternoon of complete and utter boredom, most likely spent alternating between states of consciousness as he snoozed under his shade. A wonderful waste of his life, that would have been. "I'm Qaletaqa Subiani, from the Shadow Clan," he added, offering his own name in exchange.
And then, she said... he perked his ears to catch the train of words. She said something about... "Tattoos?" He echoed, his violet eyes immediately dropping to hers, intricately painted on her foreleg in a dark blue-green.

Luyu clears her throat and taking a deep breath she looks up at him again slowing her speech down so that she could be better understood. "I like your tattoos, they are shiny." She whispers managing to contain her full body blush, at least for the moment, probably her next words would once again bring onthe peach flush to her pale fur.
"Qaletaqa." She repeats casting his name to her memory so that she wouldn't forget it. "You have a long name." She giggles in a very tinkly, overly girly manner looking up at the other male her blush just touching her cheeks this time.
"Why are you out here alone? I've escaped for the afternoon." She whispers, conspiratorially, as if her words were against some law, her leaving her family for any sort of breather was really odd for her, too nervous and flighty to go too far away from the main body of the clan. She just wanted some peace time though and hse would be back before they knew it.

"Ohh," he grinned again. "Thank you! They are, aren't they. Sometimes, I swear they sell me out when I'm hunting." It was no use being brown like the earth if his tattoos could flash in the sun and alert all of the preybeasts to his exact location. Although, he supposed, that was where the stealth came in handy.
"Well, I like yours, too," he said truthfully. He had a healthy admiration for everybody's tattoos, no matter what they said. The very tradition always awed him - it was such ingenuity, and it held such important lessons for young ones like Luyu and like he himself. Life wasn't something any of them could run away from, and with the tattoos... they simply couldn't. There was a brilliant, almost artful simplicity behind the idea. "They go very well with your eyes. And your fur." It was always nice to be matchy.
"Oh, I'm..." He fished for a way to make his lazing seem more dignified. "I'm canvassing the lands, to make sure there aren't any spies running about." A grin.
"You've escaped?" He widened his eyes to suit her tone. Ah, he remembered those days, of forbidden forays into the 'wild' and fun and games all around. Sometimes, he wished he was that small again, just so he could roughhouse with his siblings for no good reason. Or go on grand adventures. Anything had seemed like a grand adventure to him in those days. "From where?" His voice dropped to an equally conspiratorial whisper as he lowered his head toward hers to better hear her words.

Her soft blue eyes shimmered happily as he spoke and a little giggle rolled over her lips. "Yes, I saw you from miles away." She grins a little flash of a smile, her ears twitching and flickering, her body calming a bit now she was getting to know this older male. He seemed nice.
"There are spies?" She blinks owlishly, a slightly frightened look on her young face, her mother and father were both fairly protective and she didn't know why. Maybe it was these 'spies' that her parents were protecting her from? It was worth some thought, another time perhaps.
A little blush once again flushes her cheeks as he lowers her head and she looks around, her tail twitching nervously "From the noise." She puts emphasis on the the last two words, looking bashful at her honesty. "Sometimes it just gets too noisy at home, in the middle of the bird clan, everyone playing and fighting and hunting, I just wanted some quiet."She purses her lips and shakes her head "You won't tell anyone will you? I don't think mama and papa would be pleased if they knew I escaped for an afternoon of quiet."

"You see?" He laughed, shaking his head. He loved his tattoos, and he couldn't imagine himself with any other ones, but there were days when he thought that there had to be a better way for him to find food. Perhaps he would make a deal with somebody... hunting-wise... that was a thought.
"Mhmm," he nodded gravely. "I was sent here to watch for them. But it's our little secret, alright? We don't want to panic the entire pride." He winked and grinned again. "Don't worry, though, they won't hurt us. Not if they don't realize we're looking for them, so even if you are, you can't make it obvious.
"But hey," he added. "Can I recruit you? Us two, we could watch out wherever we go, and keep the place free of spies, huh? I've got your back."
Ah. So she was a little like him. He hadn't always appreciated the hustle and bustle of their family den either. It wasn't that he didn't love his family; on the contrary, he would protect any of them with his life, but there were just days when it all became... a little too much, and he, much like Luyu, had snuck out to spend some time alone.
He shook his head. "Nah, I won't tell anybody." He promised. "Your secret's safe with me." And the last thing he wanted to do was to get anybody in trouble.

Luyu giggles a little, her watery blue eyes looking up at the older male, curiously, very curiously in fact . Spies were every where and you had to watch for them? She realized it was a game he was playing and after a moment she flashed a very pretty, delicate smile before straightening her face and nodding. "i'll help!" She whispers conspiratorially, her nose twitching. "Only if you are with me though!"
Wriggling her toes in the dust she smiles softly. "Thank you, for keeping my secret." She smiled flickering her tail "I don't think I've ever told anyone that I wanted some quiet before."She sighs, at home she was too shy to speak up, to ask for a moments peace from the hubbub of pridal life.
"Do you live in a big family?" she asks, her voice a whispery whistle as she questioned the older male. She wondered if he liked to be alone, or if he prefared the peace and quiet. perhaps his spy thing was just a game that he enjoyed playing when he was alone. "You do have a family don't you?" she realised after asking that perhaps he wouldn't have one, some people didn't have families.

"Of course!" Taqa bobbed in head in the affirmative, acting for all the world as if this was, in fact, serious business. Spy hunting was not a joke! And, of course, it was a game that never got old. He couldn't deny that. "What are partners for, right?"
The brown lion smiled, shrugging. "Anytime. I'm a secret-keeper, remember?" He said. "My parents told me that my name means 'guardian of the people'..." He added, half musing to himself. "I think they were right, in a way." As if realizing that it was silly talk that Luyu probably had little interest in, he shook himself and changed the topic.
"Yea, I have a family," he answered with a chuckle. "A pretty big one, yea. There are three litters, including mine, and all of them are... pretty sizable." He had never quite paused to count exactly how many Subianis there were, but now that he thought about it, they would definitely be considered a... large family. That almost seemed to be an understatement. "And what about you? What's your family like, apart from noisy, that is."

The game he was proposing sounded like it lasted forever, it was quite funny really. Something they could obviously talk about and be perfectly serious about tot he point that you could giggle together and just enjoy the inside secret of hunting spies.
A secret keeper. She liked that he explained his name to her. Guardian of the people. Guardian of her secret. Yes, it was very nice indeed to know that someone could keep her gripes to himself, that she could have this small complaint about her life and not be judged about it. "My name means wild dove." She laughs a little twittering laugh, her parents often told her that she was flighty, that she needed to calm down and sit still. She was wild and free just like a dove.
"Well my mother and father were rogues and they have one other litter, three of whom are in the pride, two in the bird clan and one in, uhm, I think it's the shadow clan, I can't remember I don't see her very often." She looks a little embarrassed by her words but perks up almost immediately. "I have four brothers in my litter." She shakes her head "Boys are SUCH hard work, especially when you are related to them." She giggles, finding her frankness to her new friend amusing even to herself. "Of course, you're not hard work Taqa, you're very, very easy to talk to." She smiles a little whispery smile her cheeks flushing a little once again as she said it.

"The Shadow clan? Maybe I know her then," Taqa said curiously, but nodded, then shook his head with a laugh. "Nah, you're right. Us boys, we can be hard work. I would know." He added, thinking of his brothers, and of himself. He supposed he wouldn't have labelled himself as trouble, necessarily, but there were times when he had decided to stop staying out of trouble and diving headfirst into it. But boys would be boys, and he didn't expect anyone had been at all surprised on the somewhat rare occasions that he had.
"But I try." He said with a grin. Now that he had grown up a little bit and gotten more mature, he tried his best to be good, and to be as easy to talk to as he could be. He loved children, and the antics of those younger than himself never failed to put a bright smile on his face. THe last thing he wanted was to seem intimidating. And he loved being able to help others, anybody that needed him, and so he did his best to seem as grown up as possible. It was a delicate balance, at best, but he seemed to be managing it alright.

She giggles at his words, he was so funny, he was definitely a nice boy, a very nice boy actually! "You're right, boys will be boys, but you're not like my brothers at all." She smiles getting to her paws her tail wriggling happily.
"I should get back to my family, they will notice eventually that I am missing." She sighs a little and smiles at Taqa. "Maybe we can meet here again and I can tell you how many spies I caught?" She grins playfully, her soft teal eyes dancing in an excited manner.

"A report?" Taqa grinned, nodding thoughtfully. "You know what, that's a good idea. We'll exchange reports - that way, we can have more information about they way they work, and how organized they are." Ohyes. Now - now, they were taking pride security to a whole new level. Those spies had better watch out.
"Tomorrow then," he decided. "Same place- Nah." He shook his head, looking past Luyu to scan the lands for another landmark. "There, that tree over there," he said, nodding toward a thin, willowly excuse for a tree that stood but a few lengths over from where they now sat. "We can't be meeting at the same place all the time. The spies'll get suspicious."
