Things had changed greatly in the last few months for him and the herd. He had acquired a mate, three little hellions to mold into his vision, a really good beta in Rowan, and an alright beta in Vengeance. He sometimes doubted his decision to bring Vengeance back into the herd as a beta, but figured if it came down to it, he could just strip him of that title and run him out again. The younger stallion would be so much better if he wasn't so easily distracted by his mate and offspring. Like what was he trying to do, outdo Thanos. Well the joke was on Vengeance, cause at least one of his foals turned out to look quite normal. If only there was a way to run that little bugger out of the herd too, then it would be perfect. Maybe he could get Rowan to distract Vengeance and Regret to distract Imbri and that would give him this opportunity to do just that. The idea made him laugh a bit as he walked along the border of his herds territory.

"What's so funny?" War snapped at him. She had grown more and more impatient with the stallion and his doing nothing. She wanted Thorn back, for he was a stallion of action.
"I'm sure whatever he was thinking was worth the laugh." Peace chimed in.

"Just thinking of ways to run out one of those normal foals that Vengeance had." He told them as he came to a stop at the top of a ridge that gave him a good view of the lands past his. Lands that would one day belong to him. Once his daughters were a bit older he could begin to send them out to harass near by herds and any rogue horse that happened to wander to close. Spread the word of the herd from Hell, so that all would tremble before him. Thanos liked the sound of that and gave his head a nod, proud he had thought of that without the help of his rats.

Heavy hooves made their slow way up the side of the mountain, every step feeling emptier than the last one to the chestnut stallion they belonged to. He wasn't sure how long it had been since he left his herd's side to 'explore' the land around them, but he was certain it was much longer than he had ever hinted at. That didn't matter though, if was lucky it gave them the time to gathered and settled into the bright place, maybe even cause some trouble along the way. Certainly they had done at least that in his absence. The large horse plodded forward with such thoughts, thick muscles rippling under his hide with each stride he took. Even if they hadn't, he certainly had.

Many things could be said of the stallion Thorn- none of which were good. Even before his death and hell had taken root into his very soul, the stallion was referred to as a tyrant, a brute, and a monster. No he had never been a very good guy, and death certainly hadn't helped to round out his rough edges. In fact, hell and Thorn had gone together quite nicely. There were always new 'damned' to torment and conquer, broken souls and broken bones to twist and skew under his hooves, and the most important abundance of all: he could never die in hell. He would have lived an eternity in that pit of destruction and battle his way to the top as he had before the new world opened up to them. This place, so full of life and wonder, surely there had to be something here worth beating. Something perhaps to take over- if he so deemed it worthy of such pity. But no, this place held nothing of his desires. So Thorn had done what Thorn always did, he brought the weak to their knees and hounded them toward the very gates of hell. The best part of all? They didn't even have anything he wanted, whatever they offered to tide over his blood lust was never enough. He destroyed them for no reason at all, only because he could.

And now he was returning home after an unsatisfying trip. He expected their empire to be cast, their names known, and their conquests under way. Perhaps this place did hold some challenge for him, and he just hadn't found it. That was enough for the chestnut to hope for, wasn't it? With a hearty wuff of breath to fill his lungs the strong scent of death nearly choked him. Ahh! He was close now! "THANOS!" the war-leader boomed, his voice cracking the wilderness into silence for but a moment before birds screamed and took to the skies.

Thanos could feel his entire body twitch at that booming voice. He knew that voice, it was so oddly familiar to him and it sent a wave of anger over him. Eyes turned a dark red as his mind raced to think of who was calling to him. It wasn't Rowan, and certainly Vengeance couldn't muster a loud yell like that to save his life. Then who was it? None of the other worthless scum of his herd would ever yell out like that to him.
Damn it who was yelling at him? His hoof stamped the ground hard in frustration. He knew that voice, he was certain of it, he just couldn't put a name to it.

"You should have dealt with that other b*****d the moment he was born. Then you would have - " Her rant was cut off when she heard that beautiful voice ring across the lands. War's feet stamped happily as she scurried up Thanos mane to sit between his ears. "It's Thorn, he has returned!" She chirped in a happy tone that was quite unlike her normal self.
"Oh boy." Peace murmured to himself and burried himself into Thanos' mane unsure of exactly how the stallion would react to his former brother's return.

Thanos felt his anger swell a hundred times at Thorns name. That rat b*****d had come back! He let out a shrill call in the direction Thorns voice had come from. But before he could go and confront that stallion he had one thing to deal with. Thanos gave his head a quick jerk forward and then several shakes until he saw a small brown furry object go flying. War hadn't been expecting that and she went flying through the air landing hard on the ground. Thanos didn't give her any time to react, he had closed the gap on her and stamped his hoof down on her body repeatedly. It didn't matter that he wouldn't kill her, but she had to pay for that.

War let out a scream as Thanos' hoof come down on her again and again. "Whats...your...problem!" She yelled in between each crushing at the enraged black stallion.

"Don't ever mention that name around me again!" He screamed at the rat which now sat in a small crater that his hooves had made. "He is no longer one of us!" Turning he began to trot of heading towards where he believed Thorn would be to confront his old friend, leaving War scrambling after him.

This is what they had escaped from hell to conquer. The air had been crisp that day and had stung his lungs, it had taken awhile for the stallion to get use to not breathing in the acidic stench of the dead, and to be honest he kind of missed it. There was just something odd about being here again, where others found beauty in the living world, Thorn only saw mild annoyances. Flowers that were sickly sweet and gave him headaches if he breathed them in for too long, colorful arrays of birds and animals that made him want to wretch, and the innocence of the young. God how he hated it here! This is what they had returned to? Something was wrong with the whole lot of them! There was nothing innocent about this place, just sheer stupidity and hopeful fools biding their time until they met their fates- fates that he helped them get acquainted with whenever possible. It made Thorn sick.

But, he digressed. It would be dealt with soon enough after he mingled back into the herd. Surely they were as disgusted with this place as he was. Which brought him to the present- well, that, and the fact that it smelled like a damn corpse had been stuck rotting out in the sun too long. A scent he couldn't help but remember fondly. "Thanos!" the large chestnut barked upon sighting the black stallion. He never really could tell what Thanos was feeling right away, what with most of his face missing, so when he saw his brother-in-arms trotting toward him Thorn couldn't help but charge right up to the black stallion- hell and small animals be damned if they found themselves under his hooves. "Skull-for-brains! Tell me I missed much, I'm sure you've had more luck than I in your conquests?" In fact, he expected it. Thorn expected a lot of things most of the time, and when they weren't met he took them. That's just the beast of a stallion he was.

Now Thorn respected Thanos as much as someone like him could. He had come to see the rotting stallion as more of an equal than someone to be pushed around- well, most of the time anyway, but that didn't stop the chestnut from trying. There was still that part of him that had to be on top, even slightly so. Fact of the matter was, Thorn believed he needed Thanos, and thus treated him better than he would the others. That being said, Thorn came to a clean halt a few strides away, muscular form as towering... and imposing as ever. For if one thing was to be said about Thorn, its that he had a presence about him, a hunger for war and conquet that had demanded the respect of the damned. And soon enough, this living world would learn that very same lesson.

War was not at all amused with Thanos even if it was the first true act of violence that the stallion had shown since returning to the land of the living. When Thanos turned to leave War scurried out of the hole and chased after the stallion, quickly grabbing onto a bit of his tail before crawling up the length of it until she sat upon his back. With the last bit of her anger towards his War sank her teeth keep into the stallions flank.

"What the hell did you do that for?" Peace yelled at his sister when she bit the stallion, though he stayed hidden within the black mane.

Thanos let out a scream as War bit into him. If he wasn't about to confront Thorn he would have yelled at the blasted rat for doing such a thing, but he had a bigger problem to deal with. And that problem was Thorn. His eyes continued to glow in a dark red indicating his extreme anger as the larger stallion came to a stop in front of him. "You have a lot of nerve coming back here you b*****d." His front left hoof stamped hard into the ground, if only both Thorn and War were under that hoof, then all his problems would be solved.

His herd may not be perfect but it was a whole let better without Thorn around. The b*****d had left shortly after they returned to this wretched land without telling Thanos as to why or how long he would be gone. Or at least Thanos couldn't remember having that conversation. And honestly if they had have done that Peace would be telling him about it right now, but the male rat was quiet save him questioning his sisters actions. Snorting loudly Thanos felt his muscles twitch. He knew he couldn't hold his own in a fight against War, the chestnut stallion was a superior fighter, but Thanos had brains, which from what he vaguely remembered Thorn lacked. That was after all how they had originally made their deal together. Thanos would plan things and guide Thorn in the right direction, and the chestnut stallion would then bring his hooves down until the lands Thanos had chosen.

But now that had changed, the brawn to his brains had left and was no standing in front of him, acting as if he still belonged. There was no way in hell that Thanos was about to let his so-called brother come back so easily...if ever. "What do you want? He questioned angrily, not wanting to spend too much time near the other.

Now what sort of welcome-back was this? Thorn's fiery gaze met the dark glowing orbs of Thanos, attempting to judge the other stallion's mood. At first he wanted to believe his 'brother' was playing with him, but then he couldn't remember a time when he had. Thorn's eyes flickered brighter, white-hot towards the center as a bright red seemed to surround the entire eye. It took awhile for him to establish that yes, Thanos was angry with him. The powerful stallion tossed his head to the skies, a glowing line from his 'eyes' visable even in the sunlight followed the action of his head, before disappearing- much like the glow of a firefly in flight. "I'm back! What more do you want?" the chestnut snapped, sounding much like an unruly yearling at this point. Thorn was not known for his maturity level, and often times came out as childish or insenstive. Both were probably true testaments to his character, and much more besides that.

"Its not like I went off never to return, it just took longer than expected", the stallion went on, voice deep and controled compared to his earlier outburst. He had reminded himself that this was Thanos, someone he wasn't all too willing to strike out against. Still, he couldn't believe his brother could be angry at him for something like this. And to be fair, he had come back, like he always planned to do. "There's nothing but scum out there anyway. So, it's time I retook my position!" his voice flared up once more, the stallion of war tasting conflict where he should have been welcome home. It was a feeling he wasn't sure what to make of just yet. Sure he pilaged a few herds and stamped a name out for himself, but to Thorn that wasn't anything to be raving about. After all, it was something he always did. Heck, it was almost expected of him.

Thanos snorted slightly as Thorn threw his head skyward. Having had foals of his own to deal with he knew it was best to just let Thorn have his little fit here before saying anything else. After all childish behavior like that usually meant one did not get heard during so. "What more do I want?" The black stallion repeated the question as if he couldn't believe Thorn didn't know the answer. "Oh I don't know...perhaps a co-leader who will stick around and help!" This was just like that other stallion...oh what was his name...the annoying one that left and then came back. Bah details! The point was that Thanos was not about to let Thorn off easily, brother or not.

"How was I to know that? You never even told me you were leaving!" Thanos stomped his hoof in anger. It was bad enough that he had to deal with....well herd related things, but to have to lecture his once brother just seemed a bit much now.

"Stupid up you big oaf, let him come back, we like Thorn remember. He kills for pleasure!" War chimed in, not at all happy that Thanos wasn't welcoming Thorn back willingly.

"War, do yourself a favor and for one don't talk praises about Thorn." He said in a whispered tone, not wanting Thanos to stomp him into the ground like he did War earlier. "He is clearly angry with him and should be able to do as he pleases."

"I do not care that there is just scum out there. You abandoned the herd. I needed you here to help out and you buggered off, too infatuated with the thought of conquest to bother with the wastes of spaces we called a herd." Thanos had over time begrudgingly accepted the fact that his herd was lazy and would never accomplish anything they had originally set out to do. However, with Thorns return that hatred had resurfaced one hundred fold. "You will not retake your position. I lead this herd now! This is not your herd anymore, nor are we brothers from hence forth." Thanos gave his head a shake, these moments of relative clarity were still odd feeling, usually his thoughts were so jumbled due to his broken memories, yet every now and then it were as if he was restored to the horse he had been - before Hell had taken it's toll on him.

The large stallion's fury swelled and boiled within him as he struggled to swallow it back down, still unwilling to strike out against Thanos. It had been oath you see, for the red chestnut stallion to not physically harrass Skull-for-brains like he would any other horse, and one he would not lightly break. Still though, it was unnatural for the cruel beast to hold back on his urge to fight, as he only ever had to do that with Thanos- and those had been rare occasions. To say the least, Thorn was having a difficult time of it, and found making words ever the more difficult at the moment. At least coherrent ones at least. "Well, I... didn't-", he started, straining to keep a hold of the thoughts he wanted to put together. A good argument, that's what he needed, a good word to throw back at Thanos. "...Think?!" the war stallion barked out in confused frustration, his nostrils flaring in a hostile manner as he worked his tongue up and down and chewed with his teeth. Bah! Who needs words when hooves could solve things so much easier; and quicker in Thorn's case.

To hear they were no longer brother's was probably the worst part of what the other stallion had told him, and it sat in the back of his mind like a bitter vile on his tongue. Thorn reeled back in an almost half rear at the sound of it, the burly beast snapping his teeth together and pressing his tongue against the roof of his mouth repeatedly to try and get the 'taste' out of his mouth. It was an insult of insults, and one that resignated fully on the unnatural tyrant. "That so?" he spat, twisting his head sideways as he walked forward to pace around Thanos's spot. The rage threatened to quell over the side of Thorn, and his mind was little help when it came to the formation of words, but the walking kept the Stallion of Conquest under control as he mulled this over. He did not take his alligance with the bone stallion lightly, and disapproved to the brokenness of it right now. "That does not sit well with me", he returned, his voice as even as he could keep it despite his rising temperment. "And I do wish to make amends", Thorn spoke, stopping to face Thanos's once more... that was probably as close to admitting 'I was wrong' as Thorn was going to get to unless pushed further. It was just wrong some how, on a primal level to the war stallion, to no longer be considered a brother with Skull-face.

"You're damn right you didn't think!" Thanos stated without even a moments hesitation. Thorn was not the thinking type, that's why they had originally formed this partnership, Thorn was the muscle and Thanos was the brains - for the most part at least. Now however, Thanos was still the brains, but he didn't have his muscle to back all of his ideas up - well he had Rowan but the palomino stallion just wasn't Thorn. Damn it, now he was thinking about things that were distracting him from the present situation. Focus, he told himself, you're mad at Thorn. Glowing red eyes stared at his once brother. "You wish to make amends?!" He let out a laugh that sounded more like an animal being strangled.

"Yes, make amends! We need him back!" War chirped again, wanting so desperately for Thorn to come back.

"I'm staying out of this." Peace mumbled and set about burying himself even deeper in the black stallions mane in case things went badly.

Thanos snorted and shook his mane. "We do not need him." He directed towards the two rats, whom normally he listened to but not now. This was the one time he would think for himself, he would stick with the choices he made and not let Thorn back. Or at least not without putting him through a grueling test of loyalty first. But how could he test the chestnut stallions loyalty? What he needed was time to think, but his anger towards everything was at the moment clouding his mind. Maybe, if he asked Thorn what he would do to get back in his good graces then that would give him time to think of something as well. But it couldn't be offered so easily or else his former brother might think he was going soft and that would not do.

"Do you think I would let you make amends?" He asked cynically. Let's see just how well Thorn can think under pressure, let's see just how badly he does want to return so that those dreams can be crushed. "You think I'm a fool don't you? You think that if you say you want to make it up to me I will accept that without thinking on it because we were one brothers?" Thanos paused for a moment to think again, stamping his hoof and snapping his half missing tail about. "And just what would you do to make amends? Would you even stick with it or would you once again leave me for the glory of war?" The anger was still in his voice but he had at least calmed down enough that he was no longer yelling every word. Falling silent once more Thanos continued to look upon the other stallion while his mind began to think of ways to either have Thorn prove his loyalty or to rid himself of the stallion all together.
PostPosted: Wed Nov 17, 2010 9:41 pm

"Of course I didn't!" the chestnut exclaimed with a high thrust of his mighty head to the sky. "Its not my job to think, I act," the stallion confirmed but twisted his ears back in a sour dissatisfaction. "Just not well in this instance." Apparently. This shouldn't be so difficult. In Thorn's mind, the two should easily fall back into place as they had been before, but then Thorn wasn't exactly a complex guy. He liked things simple, to the point, without all this dancing around the subject like a pair of... what was the word, civilized creatures. The fact that the stallion solved all his problems- save those with Thanos, through sheer force did not help the situation. Sure, he genuinly wanted to come back, and he did not like not being 'brothers' with the stallion of decay, but the war lord found no pleasure in simply shouting and apologizing like a fool. To say the least, patience was not one of his virtues. How far would he be willing to take this?

Standing still was hardly an option for the finely muscled brute, whose muscles twitched under his taunt red hide. Conquest came easy to him, he got it and it suited him like a newly taken mare. Thanos and consquently cunning and intellegent planning on the other hoof, was complicated. That's why he needed the undead black, for even if the beast that was Thorn could easily rip his way through a battlefield or brualize those who stood in his way, he knew the glory they could acheive together would be far greater than any he could accomplish on his own. The large stallion's features twisted into feral snarl as his nostrils pinched and hot breath blew from his lungs, "The glory I seek is far greater than any personal accomplishment I have attained- both in life and through the fire's of hell." Unlike many in that desolate place, Thorn had thrived in such an enviroment. He'd set out to conquer those who crossed his path, and often enjoyed the raw brutality of his stay in the underworld. It almost seemed like a shame to leave it, but the stallion believed once their business here was concluded that paradise down below would still be waiting for him.

"I do not intend to strike out on my own for that inferior conquest again, for I see now that only together can we obtain the greatest of all glories. To completely destroy this grandeur delussion of sickening peace, and down these inferor creatures by our hooves? I'll bend to whatever whim you fancy." As much as he dispised allowing himself to be under another's imfluence, Thorn remained adament on repenting for his past sin against Thanos. "Say bare and I will bare whatever torment you see fit, say run and I shall run for however long or far you desire, or say kill and I shall crush anyone that you point in my direction," the mighty chestnut encouraged, whipping his tail against his flank and giving the ground a good pawing at as he once more snorted the hot breath from his pinched nostrils and twisted his neck into a tight arch.

Boy was Thorn right there for once. His job wasn't to think, that's why he was the muscle of their once duo and not the brains. Though granted Thanos was lacking brains sometimes, but at least he had War and Peace to make up for that. Great now he was getting distracted. Thanos gave his head a shake to clear his thoughts and gazed upon Thorn with his glowing eyes, which were currently a dark red that was almost black. He listened as Thorn spoke, and for once the chestnut stallion seemed to actually be thinking before speaking, which was a good thing as Thanos was tired of the ill thought remarks from before. Still he was far too angry to listen to reason, Thorn or his rats at this point who were chattering away in his ears.

"You should have figured that out a long time ago Thorn, before you abandoned the herd. Had you stayed around we could have already put our plans of domination into motion. But no, you had to run off and leave me with the headache of trying to get these lazy asses to move! I may be able to think up of complex plan but without someone to act them out and lead the herd just withered. You were the one who was supposed to lead them in those acts, but you left." Thanos snorted in frustration. He could think of several things for Thorn to do, all of them involved getting out of his sight...forever. The black stallion paced about, formulating the perfect plan of what to do with Thorn.

"Let him come back!" War insisted yet again.
Peace was wondering if his sister had a deathwish the way she wouldn't let up about letting Thorn back. "Just let him do what he thinks is best for the herd."

Through all his frustration, anger and confusion Thanos heard Peace's calm voice break through and the most wonderful idea struck him. Planting his hooves Thanos looked at Thorn, ready now to give his decision. "You can go back to Hell." There, problem solved, Thorn would be out of his hair for good and he wouldn't need to worry about running into him on one of his future conquests.

And that, just didn't seem to be enough, did it? Thorn was trying, had been trying, to keep their peace in tact and return to what was rightfully the deadliest duo in hell. However, it seemed Thanos would have none of that. The chestnut stallion had done his best to think things through, to speak with a well versed tongue that rarely got any use at all, and still it was not enough. The words rang jeered in his mind, tormenting the stallion as he struggled to control the rage that bubbled to the surface once more. It was inevitable and impossible to control, like a storm breaking loose upon the lands in the season of rain, or fire at a lightning strike.

The embodiment of war could no longer withhold his nature, wrathful fury surging through the torrents that had previously kept them at bay during the conversation with the undead leader of the Hell Herd. Like a demon, a hellion for surely he was one if there ever had been, Thorn loosed a jagged cry from his lungs, every bit as horrible and twisted as the sound of clashing thunderheads and steel from a battlefield. The cry pierced through the silence of the mountain side, seeming to shatter the very nature of this place, and echoed far enough to be heard loud and clear- likely to the very hell herd itself. Searing hate burned bright in his eyes, mimicking the very hellfire they had come from, as Thorn set them upon the black horror. In an instant he had risen to his hind legs, mighty hooves reaching for sky with full intention to come crashing back down and crush the insolence out of that ever-grinning skull face.

Something snapped in the back of his mind and the stallion maneuvered his blow to the ground instead, the impact indeed loosing the hard ground of the mountain side, an imprint of his hooves in their place. There were no words on the tongue of this devil, and wasted no time lunging forward in a bone jarring jolt, narrowly missing Thanos as he barreled past- his rage seeming to almost manifest an aura around him. He would go to hell, he'd decided. He would go...
