It had been approximately three years since the winged stallion had stepped hoof into the Kawani Province. Heralding from a land to the east of it, he had visited this area as a small foal in order to visit his adoptive 'sister', but he had never genuinely lived here. At a young age he had flown from the nest as well, much to the chagrine of his mother he had failed to check in on a number of occasions and more than once she had worried for his safety. When the evenings had been quiet and he was afforded a moment to himself he had reflected on his behaviour and actions, but he had never regretted them. Granted he could have been more considerate towards his mother's feelings but he was most definitely not a homebody and to submit to her wishes would have left him with clipped wings and a very foul demeanour.

Thankfully his father had been much more understanding and had appreciated his desire to travel. While he may not necessarily have voiced his approval in front of Miriel, Baltidos had encouraged the young colt to make haste and to make his mark on the world. He had done so and for the last five or six years he had explored both the continent in which the Kawani Province existed, as well as the continent just south of it. He hadn't finished with his exploration of the southern regions completely as of yet, but when his companion had informed him that she needed to check in he thought that perhaps he should too. It was for this reason that the male now found himself stood upon a grassy gnoll, overlooking a meadow in full bloom. It was considerably colder than the southern continent and his flanks gave a mild shiver of protest but he could appreciate the beauty. Mother Nature had always had a way of outdoing herself year after year, the faintest whisper of a breeze only added to the effect.

Adjusting his weight from one hind hoof to the next, he heaved a soft sigh and took a moment to savour the taste of the otherwise sweet air. In the south the heat had been staggering and the air so thick that it seemed to suck the air from him. It should have come at no surprise that for a considerable amount of time both he and his companion were forced to rest and acclimatised. The northern world was arguably the most beautiful and refreshing (even if it was a touch cold). With quivering wings he continued to survey the horizon for just a touch longer before at last moving forward. He wanted to feel the touch of the long grasses against his flanks again, that faint stroke that eased his muscles and calmed his mind.

While Francesca may have had business to attend to here, his lay further on and as a consequence he had little time to mull over his location for too long. If he was to return in time to meet up with Fran again he would have to make haste. In the Kawani Province he had never been disturbed as a foal and he sincerely doubted that it would change, foreigners adored him but he didn't have quite the same appeal here. This in mind he pushed on without further delay, doubtful that he would encounter any individuals in passing - it would just be so unlike his normal day to do so!

Sterenna had ventured out for the first time along today, starting to feel safe in the lands she had found herself in. She knew they would be looking for her but she was counting on the guards not knowing which direction she had run in, that and she had run for many days, so with any luck the distance she had covered would slow them down too. She knew that eventually someone would track her down, but till then she had found a place where she felt safe, and a small herd had taken her in when she needed help the most.

Walking through the lush green of the forest she was reminded of her far away home in many ways, though the variation in the inhabitance of this land was the most staggering part to her. At home there were unicorns, flutters or mixes of the two like she was. Even the herd that was sheltering her were a weird mix, some had no wings or horns, some had both wings and horns but they had feather wings. Even her rescuer was different, he had what looked like little trees poking out his head.

Thinking about Eddie made her smile as she emerged from the trees on the edge of the meadow. Stopping and taking in the beauty of the place. Eddie had found her when she had finally collapsed from exhaustion and lack of proper eating, but then she had been running and had spared little time for either, she should probably be stunned that she got as far as she had. She was doing better now, though she was still a little on the skinny side... With that thought she dipped her head and started grazing on the sweet green grass near the trees. Unaware she was being watched from a nearby hilltop. Wandering more into the light, her yellow gold curls trailing over the flowers picking up the sweet scent of them as she nibbled in the sun.

She hadn't immediately entered his line of sight, he often had trouble discerning anything within the mass of grey unless he took a moment to look at it properly. In fact, he continued on oblivious to her existence until he caught some movement in his peripheral vision. His head turned and he regarded the lengthy blades of grass for a time, concluding that the movement had not been a dance that came naturally to the plant. In short, he was in the presence of another creature and unfortunately for him that meant he had to focus.

Thus he came to a halt, his head flicking from the left to the right in an attempt to figure out what it had been. At that moment the young mare had her form hidden partially by the grass, assisted more so by the fact that her head was lowered. Even her translucent wings evaded him, their colour so pale that it was impossible for him to distinguish - unfortunately even their shape looked like grass to him unless he took a closer look.

His gaze would have passed over her at least three or four times and then at last he appeared to twig on. With a double take he returned his gaze to the peculiar 'spiked grass' and regarded it with interest. It was only then that his lips parted ever so slightly before creasing into a smile, ah so he had missed the stranger and as always she appeared to be right in front of his eyes. Frankly, she could have given his travelling companion a run for his money.

However, he hadn't anticipated that he would receive company and was left with a predicament. As he might have mentioned before, the Kawani Province didn't often receive him well and his 'condition' caused great confusion. While he was regarded with great interest in foreign lands, he couldn't guarantee he would receive the same treatment even after all these years away. Should he disturb her, or leave her be? He puzzled over this for a few moments longer before clearing his throat, it wasn't the best greeting in the world but it was a greeting all the same. Besides, it was only polite to show recognition for another's existence, even if they opted to dismiss you shortly after.

She had been blissfully unaware of anyone being around as she nibbled at the grass, she had just been happy to have her strength back and to feel safe. She had been raised in privilege and had never wanted for anything, but she found this simple like to her liking. She smiled to herself, enjoying that she had been able to go and do as she pleased on this warm day. Not having to do any more than let Eddie know she was going for a walk and would be back before dark. He worried for her but left her to explore as much or little as she pleased.

The cough she herd had her looking around though, jumping at first fearing that she had been caught. And while there was a stallion there it wasn't one she recognised, he also had feather wings which meant he wouldn't be sent by her father. This fact relaxed her and a smile came back to her face, though it was a shy smile. Moving closer to the stallion till she was close enough to talk without having to shout. "Hello sir, how are you this lovely day?" Stood right in front of him now, looking directly at him, and as yet totally unaware that there was anything wrong with his vision.

She was the first flutter he had ever had the pleasure of meeting, in the future, he would be destined to meet more but it was she who was to be his introduction to the species. Consequently, he regarded her with equal interest as she bridged the gap between them and gazed up at him. At such close quarters he was able to examine her in greater detail, from the tip of her horn to the base of her tail. A pretty thing to be sure, if incredibly small in comparison to most soquili he had met - perhaps this was a direct result of her species?

He returned his smile with one of his own and gave a small bow of his head in appreciation. She was perhaps, the better conversationalist of the two, given she had possessed the ability and intelligence to say 'hello' rather than simply clearing her throat. Some might have said that he should have been taking lessons from her in that respect!

"I am in fine form, m'lady," he replied with ease and canted his head to the side. "I would like to think you are well in equal measures, yes?" he continued. Alas, when in doubt one could always rely on the very basic, introductory level of social interaction. Unfortunately, Solstice often struggled from this point on and rather than continue along the predicted track, he had a rather bad tendency of leaping off in an entirely different direction...just as he was about to demonstrate.

"Forgive me for asking but you are a most petite creature, what exactly are you?" he enquired.

Star found her smile falter a little but it settled again, it seemed her kind was as unknown to him as his was to her, maybe they could have both their curiosity satisfied.

Her smile cheerful thinking if he was going to openly ask questions he would not find it rude if she did the same, but first she would answer him. "My measures are growing, but today finds me well. I will become more well as the days pass." She had been very weak and had done little but sleep, eat and drink water for a few days. Though she had found the strength to go with her friend to the water and wash, that had also helped her feel better. Now a few weeks later she was feeling much better and almost totally herself, though she was still a little jumpy, though she had yet to see and flutters or unicorns, so she was feeling more at ease and safe.

Pondering how best to answer his question, she knew she was small, even for her kind she was on the small side, though not as small as some and not as small as she could be if she so chose. "I am a fluttercorn, my father is a flutter, my mother was a unicorn, those are the only kinds found where I come from. I have seen few from round here but I have not seen any others of my kinds, though there seems to be a great many different kinds here. What are you?" Looking at his feathered wings, not sure what to make of them at all, she had never seen wings like that on anything but birds.

Well, on the positive side she wasn't in spectacular spirits but she was 'improving'. Solstice wasn't so bold as to ask why, it simply wasn't his business, but he could take pleasure in thek nowledge that her situation was not as grim as it might once have been. His smile grew at this, appreciative of her patience and her decision to provide him with an explanation. He may have set off on a journey and he may have seen much, but so far, flutters and as she referred to herself, fluttercorns, had completely evaded him. In a general sense he understood her explanation and deemed it safe to assume that the 'flutter' aspect was the reasoning behind her rather fragile wings.

...All things considered?

Well, all things considered it was fascinating and his mind began to process this very simple revelation at a mile a minute. Surely such fragile wings couldn't support the weight of a soquili, could they? Oh, he wasn't calling her 'fat' by any means, but in terms of maths and logics, it didn't necessarily add up. Clearly he was missing something and filed it away carefully for future investigation - it would give him something to do while he feigned interest in Francesca's constant stream of chatter.

"I'm an Angeni," he replied as he returned to the present. "Or rather, half of an angeni," he ammended with a soft smile. "My mother is an Angeni, an angelic race of soquili. They are sent from the heavens to watch over particular domains or aspects of the living world," he glanced briefly at his wings and pursed his lips. "Generally speaking, they have four wings as opposed to two," he added in the hopes of clarifying the difference between a simple wind soquili and the angelic beings.

"However my father was a regular stallion, strong and impressive as he might have been, he holds no immediate 'quirks' of note. He possesses no wings, no cleft hooves, horns or otherwise - he is by every measure, perfectly ordinary," he chuckled softly and shook his head. "I hope that clarifies what I am do a certain degree, though if unicorns and these 'flutters' you speak of were the only individuals in your region, I suspect you will have other questions..."

Did she?

She might not, for all he knew she might have stumbled upon regular soquili or winds before! He was being presumptious in this which wasn't necessarily a good thing!

Star listened to him carefully, her expression interested but showing a vague oh! of surprise, he was telling her things she had no idea of. Angelic soquili, four wings, ordinary... She had yet to meet anything she would consider ordinary, but then what was ordinary? Her expression becoming thoughtful as she absorbed and processed the information.

Tilting her head as she remembered the ones she had met here so far, though they were limited. "I'm not sure what ordinary is here, but so far I have met you, one with small trees on his head... he called them anters... antlees...." Thinking over the conversation again trying to remember how the word had sounded. "Antlers? yes that was it antlers. and one with nothing on his head or back, which was very odd." Blushing faintly and looking up at him. "I know I've not met many others here yet, but this is the first time I've wandered far enough from where I am staying." She had been very ill after all but she didn't want to burden him with her troubles.

Looking at his wings again, her expression still thoughtful, her blush starting to fade a little. "So there is a different kind with bird wings?" She was going to have to ask more questions of Eddie and his family, there seemed to be more unusual soquili here than she would have ever thought. Maybe that was a good thing though, maybe it meant she had run far enough away that she would never be found.

"Aha, you met a Cerynei or at least a relative of one!" he identified the 'antlers' immediately for what they were. He had met a number of Cerynei in his time and while they hadn't been spectacular or exciting encounters, he couldn't criticise them either. Suffice to say that when he wasn't adventuring, all his social interactions had been comfortable and enjoyable in their own way - his meetings with other races generally fell into these categories (with the exception of a select few). Nevertheless, he would by no means have claimed to have met every type of soquili and she was living proof of that. Consequently, when she apologised for her lack of awareness...

"I suspect there are very few in the world who would be so bold as to claim they had met every type of creature," he remarked with a wry smile. "I might aspire to it, but it might take more than one life time," he continued. It was in these moments that he seemed to dismiss her need for embarassment. Life was all about learning and experiencing new things, if she'd known everything he would have felt rather substandard despite his numerous explorations!

"But yes," he returned to her next question and gave a nod in agreement of her assumption. "There are many different types of winged beings in the world, both feathered and otherwise. I couldn't be so bold as to clarify exactly how many, but I can confirm there are certainly two - Winds and Angeni," he concluded.

"Perhaps when you are feeling particularly adventurous you might gather your friends to seek a few out, hm?"

Her mouth forming a small o as she listened to him, other types of wings as well? This place was going to be very interesting, though with so much to learn the idea intimidated her a little. Then again life was all learning, even if it was something familiar there was something to learn too, she would just have to pace herself.

She blushed a little and looked at her hooves a moment before remembering her manners and looking at him again. It would be very embarrassing to admit that she had only got one friend in this place. Then again friends might get hurt if... when her trouble caught up to her, there was no doubt that it would, though she liked to believe otherwise, as it was she was more just waiting for that trouble to arrive, and the idea of a friend being caught in that was not a thought she wanted to share.

"Perhaps when I am more familiar with things around here I'll go alone and seek out some of these different types you have mentioned." Yes it would be safer for others if she went alone. Worry creasing her brow for a short time, finally sighing, worrying wouldn't stop trouble finding her, besides her time here could well be limited so she might as well what was probably going to be her last taste of freedom. Smiling at her companion she tilted her head, curls swaying a little. "What brings you here might I ask? I mean I don't want to be rude but was there a reason you came here?" Looking around them for a moment, before sighing she was sure she had just committed a faux pas, but what was said was said, she just hoped he took it how she had meant it.

"I would very much encourage you to explore in the company of another for at least one or two of the individuals who possess wings," he advised with a hint of a wry smile upon his lips. Suffice to say that Solstice was all too aware of the dangers that lurked within the depths of the unknown. Delicate as the fluttercorn was, he knew that she wouldn't stand much of a chance against the more brutal creatures... Admittedly, there were some who managed to challenge the stereotype, but more often than not the unpleasant ones were just as described. Granted, he had no qualms with her pursuing the more benevolent races on her own but the hostile ones... Well, he wasn't so sure.

"At least the ones that may cause issues if you locate the wrong one," he explained softly, refraining from going into further detail in case the mare had little interest in such things. For all he knew, Star could have been feigning interest to be polite and he had a tendency to run his mouth - Francesca had warned him about this on more than one occasion and she had encouraged him to take note of what he was saying. If he was going to say something for more than five minutes, then it was a wise idea to leave an open ended question so the other individual could ask instead of simply being bombarded with the facts!

It was sound advice and he certainly couldn't fault it.

Nevertheless her attention was soon drawn to his own personal reasons for being present in the area and he couldn't help but look sheepish at that. If she was anticipating that he would have an interesting explanation then she was to be disappointed, he had literally nothing to explain his presence other than well...

"Boredom," he confessed and released a small chuckle. "My travelling companion is visiting her family so I must wait for her to finish before we can continue with our travels."
