Yoru curiously glanced at the envelopes clutched in its guardian’s hands. Its melon green eyes curiously stared up at the wiry lad. “BK, what are those papers in your hands for?” inquired the lotus child, tightly grasping the dark pink bamboo flute that matched its hair. The instrument had been a present from Byeoung-Keon, the first of more, no doubt. Ever since, the child hadn’t dared to let go of its precious treasure and instead gently blew melodious notes from time to time, slowly learning the ways of the flute on its own.
“I told you that I’m taking care of Kyung-Rok’s delivery business while he’s away, did I not?” Byeoung calmly replied, unfazed by the affectionate shortening of his name. He had told Yoru to use it, after all. Butchering his Korean name was not in the itinerary. “I need to give these letters to someone. Their house isn’t far from here so it won’t be long.”
“I see,” Yoru said with a smile, gratefully feeling the soft silk of its new clothes, all bought by Byeoung-Keon. The boy was formal, but considerate too, it thought. The child dutifully walked alongside BK, all the way up to the door of the recipient as Byeoung knocked on it.
“Miss Gold?”

Two little eyes peeked over the window and watched the lotus child and guardian approach the door before toddling away, calling for "Lì lì" and it wasn't long before the Englishwoman answered the door, looking genuinely surprised to see the delivery boy and his companion, while the brown eyes returned to watch over the window opening, this time joined by a shock of orange hair and a new set of eyes in distinct, slitted yellow.
"Oh, delivery?" Lily asked, pointed to the letters in his hand and turning her attention to the... whatsit with the bamboo flute, giving the lotus child a wave and a smile in greeting. A few weeks ago, she might've thought Yoru was odd looking but after having the catlike Jin Feng in her care the thought really didn't even cross her mind.
Jin was shamelessly staring at the visitors, mostly Yoru, and the flute in it's hand. Once Lily had started interacting with them, he took it as his cue to not-so-stealthily creep out the window, against the wall for the short distance and then wind himself behind Lily to stare at Yoru's flute further, completely ignoring that, by all logical standards, he was pretty noticeable and the stealth act was pointless, if not painfully ineffective. Even to the point of Lily reaching down and patting his head, though she didn't bother looking down at him.

Both guardian and child noticed the large eyes that quickly flickered in the windows, but neither pointed it out to the other. There was a muffled voice that called out, presumably for the child’s guardian. Byeoung-Keon continued to stand formally, waiting for the usual swing of the door that would reveal a distinctly Asian fa—The one who had answered the door was evidently foreigner. The boy blinked, momentarily startled at her unusual appearance. Glancing back at his list, he mentally slapped himself. Of course, the name was obviously European. He should have seen it coming.
He smiled away, handing her the assigned letters. “Here are your letters, Miss Lillian,” he stated. “Also, by your appearance I assume that you are not native to the town. Therefore, if you have any questions feel free to ask me,” offered BK. . . . for a price.
On the other hand, Yoru calmly stared back at Jin Feng, taking note of his slit pupils. Rather rudely, the child observed the orange-haired boy slink his way from the wall to behind the protection of his guardian, his gaze apparently keen on Yoru’s precious flute. He smiled, lifting the instrument to his lips and blowing out a few notes to gauge the other kid’s reaction.

"Oh, thank you," Lily said, her eyes focus on the letters as she thumbed through them, looking mostly at the sender's name before making eye contact with the person who'd brought them, reaching out to shake Byeoung-Keon's hand. "Please, you can call me just Lily," She said with a smile that just seemed to have reeked of naivete and obliviousness.
"Woooow," Jin Feng said, letting go of Lily's skirt to lean forward, hands resting on his knees as he continued staring at Yoru's flute. He was rather drawn to it's appearance, not having been allowed near an instrument before and appreciating it's novelty. Enough that if Yoru were ever to leave it unattended Jin's sticky fingers would probably be all over it.
"Where'd you learn how to play that thing?"

He smiled—just a plain smile, enough to be polite yet not enough to be sincerely amiable, it was a business smile—and nodded his head. “Very well, Miss Lily,” complied Byeoung-Keon, though he stubbornly refused to drop the formalities. Curiously examining her from behind his thick-framed glasses, BK noticed how trusting and naïve she appeared to be. Clearly new to the area, he presumed.
“If you have any questions about the town, feel free to ask me. I’ve been around here a lot now, so I know the shops fairly well,” he offered, briefly glancing at the orange-haired child that peaked from behind the woman’s skirt. Chuckling, he gently pushed forward Yoru.
Yoru’s wide green eyes stared at Jin, interest piqued by his rather feline appearance. The other Lotus child leaned over to curiously stare at his flute. Questioningly blinking, he slowly brought his flute closer to Jin, offering it so that he could touch its smooth wooden surface if he so wished. “I learn by myself.” He spoke truthfully.

"Nuh uh," Jin Feng said immediately, only to be flicked in the side of the head for being rude. He scowled up at Lily, who was thumbing through the letters and rubbed the offended side of his skull before turning his wide, yellow eyes back to Yoru. "Really? Really really?" He asked, gripping the long tail of orange hair that had made it over his shoulder in anticipation, trying to keep from shouting 'play it again!'
"Actually I was wondering if you could recommend someplace that serves a decent meal," Lillian asked, deciding to jump on the opportunity since she hadn't fully explored the place, and the gossip she was craving from the community wasn't exactly openly available to her yet. That and: "Someone's a disruptive, picky eater." The statement was finished with an obvious glare down to the tiger child that was hopping up and down on the balls of his feet and completely ignoring the two adults since neither of them had anything so interesting as a shiny, musical flute.

Byeoung-Keon laughed politely. “It’s alright. Children will be children, after all,” he knowingly replied, somehow sounding older and older the more he talked with Lily.
Yoru bobbed his head up and down in a silent confirmation. “Byeoung doesn’t know anyone who can play the flute, so I watch the people who go through town and try things by myself,” he explained with wide eyes and a blank face. The child glanced at his flute and hesitantly brought it towards Jin. “Do you wanna try my flute? Just don’t break it!” warned Yoru.
“If you’re looking for a restaurant, I do know one that serves a variety of dishes. I’m sure there’ll be something that he’ll like,” reassured the lad as he glanced at the tiger child. “Would you like to go there now or would you rather I write down directions? I believe they’re having a deal today, so it would be a good idea to go.”

Lily looked liked she was about to answer positively but she saw Jin Feng's devious little slasher smile as he reached for the flute and a quick, well timed flick to his hand, which made him withdraw them to his pockets and straighten his posture like an arrow.
"No thank you, my hands are filthy and I have a bad habit of being careless with items that don't personally belong to me, one of which I'm still paying off," Jin Feng sounded off like a monotone and very bored robot. Still, he was watching the flute with an unsettling, greedy gleam in his eye.
"Oh!" He had a delayed reaction, but the conversation the adults were having finally sunk in. "Let's go now, pleaaaase?" He asked, violently tugging on Lily's sleeve to the point she spit out 'okay' just to avoid a ripped seam.
Smug in his victory, Jin Feng pushed the limits of his restrictions, leaning waaay close in to the flute while keeping his hands firmly in his pockets. "You must be super smart to figure it out by yourself," He marveled, still ruminating over the whole structure and shiny novelty of the instrument.

Yoru kindly held out its flute, waiting for Jin Feng to take the flute when his guardian quickly flicked his hand. It curiously stared at the other lotus child as he rattled off in a monotone. Its eyebrows furrowed and its thin lips curled into a small frown as it closely held its flute to its chest. Eyeing the unsettling gleam in Jin Feng’s eyes, Yoru protectively grasped its flute even more. Althoughite was open to being friendly and lending his instrument to others, his warning made it nervous. Yoru was well aware of the fact that Byeoung-Keon was well off and could easily replace the flute if it broke, but this was Yoru’s first flute. It was incredibly precious.
“Um. Maybe when you get more careful with other people’s things, then…?” it suggested awkwardly. As Jin Feng dangerously leaned in, Yoru took a step back as a reflex. This time, it would not relinquish it flute so quickly and carelessly. “Oh, yeah. I guess. It’s just trial and error, I suppose.”
Byeoung-Keon continued to smile amiably, unaware of the children’s antics. “Well, I guess I’ll just show you to the restaurant! It’s not too far, probably just a five minute walk?” He turned, gesturing at Lily and Jin Feng while he placed a hand on Yoru’s shoulder. “First we need to go to the end of the street; then we take a right.” BK began to walk away, one arm lightly grasping the strap of his carrier bag.
