Many moons had passed since she'd separated from the stallion Ar.... whatever his name had been. Different lands had passed beneath her hooves. None of which had truly suited her. She had considered stopping by the ocean but decided it wasn't to her liking. And her current location far from suited her aswell. It was forested, but rather hot and dry. Darkest could practically SEE the needles from the pines falling off.
There had been some meetings with other soquili. Some of them had ended in fighting. For the most part, she'd remained unharmed; not all of the others could say the same though. She'd stopped in a clearing to get a drink of water. The down side being she had to travel through the underbrush to reach the water. Darkest hated having to back track when she smelled the water to find a place to land. Then traveling where the wind couldn't reach her made her thirstier.
Now standing at the tiny stream, she was rather disappointed. It was but a tiny trickle. A small impression had created a tiny waterhole. She sucked down what was in it then had to wait for it fill. No she definitely didn't want to remain here. Darkest hoped that it wouldn't be long before she encountered a wetter place.

Areion was nearly panting. Where am I? he thought, tripping over a branch in his exhaustion. He fell into a tiny stream, sending up a little splash with a resounding thud. Too tired to get up, he lay there, thinking.
He was surrounded by dizzying heat. He'd forgotten how he'd gotten to this infernal place - he'd journeyed from the mountains after his encounter with that mare... What was her name? Deepest? No, no... She was definitely not deep. But her coat was the same black color as his... Darkest? Yes, that's it, he said to himself. The crazy mare's name was Darkest.
Darkest was one of the few things he remembered about the mountains - she was probably responsible for his lack of memory, anyway. She'd body slammed him into the side of a mountain. She'd also been saving his life. He rolled over and groaned. "Mares..."

Darkest was drowsing by the tiny trickle that could barely be called a stream. She hadn't seen any reason why she couldn't take a nap here. With the tree cover it was fairly well covered and protected. A splash of water brings her instantly awake. Gold eyes scan the area, but don't find anything immediately wrong.
With a swivel of her ears, she listens for sounds that had not been there before. Her sensitive hearing catches a groan and a voice. Sounded like it said "mares" or something similar. With a grunt she rises to her feet and heads silently towards the sound. In her opinion whoever it was, was not the most stealthy. Though in this heat? Who'd want to be?
She eels her way through some trees, hopefully it would be behind the other. If they didn't mean any harm, all well and good, but she was gonna scare the crap out of them. If they did mean her harm.... she was going to make sure they got first taste.

Somewhere off in the distance, a bird screeched wretchedly. Areion's ears flicked toward the sound. He couldn't help yelling, "Shut it, idiot bird!" The thing got louder, laughing at him. He sighed and rolled over, now facing the trees and bushes that somehow survived in this bleak heat.
Something in the brush rustled. Areion sat up, peering into the thinly wooded area. A glint of gold shined somewhere in the distance. He'd recognize that anywhere. He got to his feet. This had to be a dream.
"Ah, Darkest, darling," he called, confident that he was either hallucinating or in some gods-forsaken nightmare. "Come back to haunt me?"

"You." Her voice hisses low, preceding her out of the shadows. One ear is focused on him, one ear is laid back. How had the stallion gotten here? Well this time there was no cliff to save him from. "Well if you want me to haunt you, I suppose that wouldn't be too hard."
Her tail twitches back and forth as she moves to circle the stallion. "And what would you be doing as to find yourself here?" She must not have gotten as far as she'd thought; ranging across the land as she had, she'd made about the same forward momentum as a ground walking stallion could. It wouldn't be a good search if she rushed it.
"So tell me, here to challenge me to another battle then try to drop yourself off a cliff to get out of it?" Her mind wracks itself for his name. Damn, why is it always names? I can recognize him but never remember a damn name.

"You can haunt me if you want to, but I really doubt you'd want to follow me around." Areion sneered. "Considering you were so keen to be rid of me the last time we met." He flicked his tail. This mare... Gods, she made him almost angry. Almost. She wouldn't get inside his head this time. No way.
"Actually, I wandered down here from..." He looked around. "Uh... That way." He nodded in what he hoped was the general direction of the mountains. His memory was still failing. "And it is too hot for a fight. And there are no cliffs to fall from, thankfully." He gave her a look. "Odd. You have not spat my name like it's something to trample. Have you forgotten?"

"I donno about that. Might be fun to take a break and watch how many times your nose runs into the mud." Darkest kicks a hoof into the dry ground. "Unfortunately there's not much of that here is there? Oh well, your probably right." She pauses, just long enough for the stallion to get his hopes up before crushing them. "You'd most likely bore me to tears."
"Indeed. Lucky for you." Darkest gives a turn to head back to her little plot of a water hole. She was still quite thirsty and it should be full again by now. "So what? Perhaps I don't feel like sullying myself with it." Her tail flicks insultingly at him as she vanishes back into the scrub cover. Idiotic stallion. Meh, why Would I want to remember his name?

Areion scoffs, then looks down. Don't let her into your head. He sighs and follows her through the brush, making a racket of creaking trees and cracking branches. Darkest must be slim to get through there without some sort of pain, especially with those wings of hers. When he finally emerges from the trees, he looks back at them with a new respect for her. They're still swaying in his wake. I need to start laying off the grass.
"Well, Darkest, if you cannot remember my name, I will not remember what I owe you." He smirks at her then. He leans down to take a sip of water from the tiny stream.

Darkest stops and stands stock still after she clears the brush. I don't believe this. He actually followed me? Of all the stupid..... Her mind stops as what he says sinks in, slowly. She turns slowly as her gold eyes watch him drink.
"Any smart stallion would have walked away. But you followed me." Her voice is neutral. It gives nothing away about what's going on in her mind. "If I had to guess.... I would say you Wanted to become my slave. Why else follow me AND bring it up." She takes a step towards the stallion as a gleam fills her eyes. "So tell me. Do you wish to become my slave?"

Areion tosses his head at her, the horse equivalent of a shrug. "You have already determined that I am not the brightest stallion. And I would rather get it over with now than encounter you in a bad mood and have to be your slave then." He shakes his forelock out of his eyes as he takes another drink.
He gives her a look from under his forelock again. "You have to remember my name before I am your slave, Darkest. So for now, your games are delayed." He lies down next to the stream, underneath a scraggly little tree. He watches her with calm eyes, suddenly feeling like he's waiting in the calm before the storm. He closes his eyes and begins the process of bracing himself for whatever disaster is to come.

Darkest tilts her head. Oh yes, she could be evil and cow this stallion. Or allow him to provide her a small amount of amusement. It had been awhile since she'd had some fun. And he was practically begging her to. How could she resist? "Interesting view. Most would make an effort not to encounter me again, then worry about catching me in a bad mood."
Darkest lifts her eyes to the sun for a moment before looking back down. Her gaze travels the tree branches. She seems to be pondering with her head held high and haughty. He doesn't realize does he? Oh well it shall be a pleasure to enlighten him. She becomes calm and still. The stillness encasing her is almost unnatural 'til her voice breaks the silence.
"Mmmm, My games are never delayed dear stallion. And the answer to your riddle is simple for I already know your name." Her voice silky smooth. "For you fail to understand the position of a slave. You see, you do not have a any name except that which I decide to call you. And you shall only call me by the name I say you may. In this case, your name is.... Slave. And you my dear Slave, may call me Master." Darkest seems pleased and wonders how the stallion will react.

Areion sighs. There is nothing he can do now - there's no use fighting with her. He remembers clearly what happened last time, though he may not remember what else happened surrounding the event. Hoping to keep some semblance of a small foothold, he says, "Well, Darkest, as you took my memory from me, I believe that you owe me at least my own name in return. And I will not play your game until you can remember what it is." Calm, he gazes at her with level eyes, wondering if her reaction will be amusing.

"You lost your memory?" Her gold eyes gaze upon him as her voice has an odd lit to it. Darkest couldn't believe it. She could say anything, and he would believe her. But would he? she thought. If she had known his memory was gone, she might have chosen a different tactic with him.
The black mare slowly pawed a hoof against the ground. She wondered. How far gone was his memory? He clearly remembered her to some point. How far could she lie before he caught on? Darkest let her mind mull this over. Idly her tail twitched back and forth.
She normally wouldn't care if a mare or stallion lost their memory because of an encounter with her. However, for some reason, this time it bothered her. Her hoof pawed the ground again before she decisively stepped toward him in a high stepping prance. She stopped, facing him, when her head was right beside his. Cheek to cheek.
"Areion."

"Yes," he replied, in answer to both parts of her speech. "You've remembered, I see... I believe I sustained a head injury when you rammed me into that rock wall. That flash of stars running through my vision is about all that I am able to remember..." His shoulders made the equivalent of a horse-shrug. He looked down at the parched ground and bowed slightly.
"And now, Darkest, I suppose that I am yours," he said. Giving her a dangerous, warning look, he added, "Only for a day, though." His tail flicked with a mockery of irritation. If he was to be honest with himself - and he would not be; this would stay in his subconscious as much as he could keep it there - he didn't mind repaying his debt. Maybe he could get her to tell him what else had happened after she'd basically knocked him out.

Darkest felt a thrill run through her. Now he'd have to do anything she said. But what to say? Her tail twitched as she went back to get another drink. She slurped down the water. The mare wondered how long it would take to get his memory back, if at all. Wouldn't that be interesting?
Moving away she laid down again. She studied the stallion. Only for a day. Not nearly long enough to find and take over a place to call her own. "It's dry. Why don't you get a drink?" Assuming he forgot his morals along with his memory. Her feline tail curled itself around her back legs.
The mare looked slowly around. It irked her that there was nothing here to make him do! Normally she'd have taken the opportunity to be spoiled all day. Send him out to hunt down prey for her to eat, or find her something shiny and pretty to wear. It was just too dry. Any prey would be tiny. Not worth the effort of catching; even his. There would be no jewelry here either. What a problem this was.
Admittedly, Darkest thought, I could just leave him here. Let him fend for himself and do what he wants. She half gave a sigh. No fun in that. This was turning into a headache.
