Summer was fast approaching and Verdauga had somewhere to be.
Though his mind was on the hideout he needed to reach before the months reached their warmest points. He felt the tug in his mind and paws and he was eager to settle for a rest and a meet and greet with those he and Kai had managed to gather and nudge in that direction.
His vibrantly hued paws picked through the foliage with a skill that he had learned through his short seasons of surviving on his own and, though at an outward glance he seemed content and easy going, his mind was working harder than usual.
This would be his first winter away from the shores. It would be different, much colder, and he would have to establish his dominance over the pack. No longer was he the lanky, gangly youth that set out on his own over a year ago. He was growing into his massive paws and his equally large ego-confidence cocktail of a personality.
Hopefully this winter would go well. It had to if he and the pack he was forming would survive and grow strong bonds.

Equally dark paws stretched as they glided over the ground, folding back up as they collected in the soil, only to unravel again as the foot of the creature moved out to propel it forward. The pads were lighter, a dingy gray, and crawling up the dark legs, white stripes jutted out dashingly, a clear sign of his ancestry. Stripes were well known to mainly belong in Aqua Azul and Gomorrah; it was the later that this wolf had ventured from, having left the pack he hardly had any affiliation with left.
Dillinger may have been born in Gomorrah, but his mother hardly raised him there. She was hardly loyal to a pack of sin, fitting perhaps, and he had grown with such little allegiance that it was normal for him to wander off for days on end. This time, however, he wasn't going to come back.
He had heard rumors of a set of thieves but little more. Curiosity drove him to find this little group, wondering exactly what it was that drove them together. Was it simply the prospect of wealth? Was there something more noble steering their efforts? He wanted in. Dillinger had his own love for objects, inherited no doubt from his mother, but unlike her, the prospect of working with a group rather than alone was ideal. More could be done. Harder feats could be realized! Yes, he needed this challenge.
Slowing, the young male lowered his head. The scent of another wolf came across him.

He had his doubts, yet he also had confidence in himself and his goals. He was young, fleet of paw, and strong enough to hold his own. The coming seasons would be different, but he would persevere, as he always had through his moderately short lifetime.
He was immersed in his own thoughts as he plodded along, paying less attention to his surroundings than usual. He was too worried about keeping order in the band he was creating. Of all the wolves he had met thus far, he was certain things would go smoothly. But Kai was keeping an eye out for others. What if he picked up a wolf that he felt uncomfortable with?
Ah well, he would come to that road eventually, given the path he had chosen.
Ears pricked as he thought he caught a sound not too far away. He paused and lifted his head, tasting the wind with his sensitive nose. He was upwind of whatever creature was near, unfortunately. Quickly, he skirted to one side, taking care to be quieter than he had been before.
