Overcast hazy heavens threatened rain in perhaps a few hours, the wind was beginning to pick up it's pace, a rough breeze that tossed the lighter sands of the area floor in wisps every now and then. It was late afternoon, the stands were barren, but two figures stood facing one another in the center of the ring about 20 feet apart. On the one side stood the Shinigami senior Kaori Yukiko, long silver locks tied back in a single braid flowing with the currents of air. Her crystal blue, feline eyes were intense as she stared down her opponent, her lips set evenly. The tigress was decked out in her familiar battle gear, in shades of black, green and white. Her skirts flirted around her thighs, her black and white tiger tail held perfectly still.
Her weapon served almost as a flag pole, the butt of it resting upon the ground, the long naginata standing taller than she was, looked battle worn but also very ready to handle many more fights. All at once it was lifted and swung in a gentle arc, the blade leveled and pointing at her adversary.

Another training session, another reason he was going to end up beaten and bruised. Dressed in a white dress shirt left open without a tie, the collar ruffled slightly in the breeze and his chest was somewhat exposed with the few buttons being left undone in a long V neck. He also wore black dress pants, belt and black shoes, his right hand went to the chain and pendant that hung around his neck and lifted it over his head before holding it out in front of him. "Release." he commanded under his breath, causing the sword pendant to glow a soft blue, the light broadening and extending before fading away and revealing the same pendant only much larger and functional now as a short broad sword. He gripped the hilt firmly, the chain that had been attached to the end of it was no longer to be seen.
"Bring it on... Ka-chan." he grumbled knowing full well that she could not only hear what he said, but knew that nick name irked her on occasion. He had no doubt in his mind that she'd push him hard and wanted nothing less. One of those little anime asterisk's popped up over Kaori's brow at the nickname. "I hate it when you call me that!! You make me feel old!!" she complained as she charged in at her foe. "I'll make you pay for that!" she promised twirling her naginata around so fast that the weapon itself became a blurring circle on top of where her hand was and then she launched it at him, sliding to a halt herself to watch the ensuing attack unfold. It wouldn't stop spinning either even if Raven did manage to block against it there were at least seven rounds of hits he'd have to deal with.

"Holy hell!" Raven blocked against the flying naginata's attack as best he could sparks flying off his blade, the force of the weapon was more than enough to push him backwards, sand being kicked up as he took seven hits of damage having mostly blocked only the single strongest of all the attacks thrown at him. "Yaone return.." the tigress demanded once her seven round combo attack had completed. The weapon lifted away from it's onslaught on Raven and flew through the air, still spinning to be caught by her hand and set down like a walking staff once again. Kaori narrowed her gaze at the sand cloud, waiting for the dust to settle but she could already smell blood and see where his aura was broken where the wounds were.
"Hn. Serves him right."

Horizontal slashes marred his shirt sleeves from wrists up to his shoulders in seven pairs, bending backwards away from the spinning disk to prevent his features from being cut by the flat spinning disk, he pushed at the weapon with his sword, but the effort was hardly needed as the spinning naginata seemed to rise up and away in a reversed direction on it's own, flying back to Kaori.
Red seeped from his wounds and ruined his shirt, he sighed, now he'd have to go shopping again. He lifted his broad sword and despite his wounds, was able to hold it steady. He came in slashing with his sword, it wasn't a style of fighting that he was all that familiar with, he would have preferred hand to hand combat, but still. He came in with a slash only to back off and dodge to her right aiming a slash for behind her left shoulder, dodging again in a circle around her aiming to slash at her forearm, dodging away again to try a vertical uppercut slash at her torso. The only way to avoid getting to much damage was to try to out maneuver her, but that would only work if she remained still....

Kaori easily defended against his attacks, the shaft of her naginata met with the blade of his sword as he struck first. Watching as he dodged she rolled her weapon over her shoulder only to hear his blade meet with the shaft of the naginata. He dodged again as he circled her and slashed down at her forearm of which she intentionally put in the path of his blade, the guard on her arm more than enough to take the force without breaking and again he evaded, this time coming in from a low point, and this time actually making her move, she back flipped over her naginata lifted the blade from where it had been stuck in the ground and swiped it vertically at him as a counter attack. Although the blade wasn't close to coming into contact with him, Kaori fused her own energy into the weapon and shot a beam of blue energy at the blond boy.

The blast hit him full on throwing Raven away from Kaori, before hitting the dirt and sliding to a halt in a sandy, dusty cloud.
"Ugh.." he groaned before getting to his feet his white shirt now had a rather large hole that showed off most of his chest now. The arms were ripped and stained red in various places down to the cuffs and now it was just getting in his way more than it was of being of any use to him. So what was left of the material he pulled off of him and tossed it aside before dusting off his trousers.
"You did that just so that you could see if I've been working out and training or drinking more beer than I should be." he complained. "Hmph. Hardly, I have other ways to know of such things Raven." Kaori smiled smugly, "But I won't deny that I'm not enjoying the view." she tilted her head just so, looking at the roughed up Raven a little more closely and nodded in approval. The damage she had done so far was on the lighter side of moderate, nothing that would do more than make him focus a little better.
"You're damn cute when you sulk. But that won't save you when it comes to a real fight." But her attention was shifted to her naginata that she held horizontally out in front of her now. Twisting the weapon in two opposite directions, the center of the naginata, from the silver band, the pole shifted, turned and seemed to 'unlock' as it popped free of the silver band separating the naginata into two pieces. The bladed part of her naginata was kept hanging in her left hand, the silver band that was the end of the hilt on that end seemed to pick up a sort of glimmer from what lighting there was.
The other end was held horizontally out in front of her, her right hand only gripping the part near where she had split the once intact pole. "Let's make this a little more interesting shall we?" she smiled cheerfully. Without a word the bottom portion of her weapon began to change quickly, the silvery pointed end of her weapon didn't grow longer, but the silver ring that surrounded the smaller slivery spear like projection drew down the length of the pole. In the wake of it's drawing the ring seemed to burn away the wood as it passed leaving a streaming of ash to be carried off by the wind, exposing a long, ever so slightly curved, but simple blade that was once hidden from view. Upon reaching her hand the silver ring seemed to sink out of view but the change continued taking place. A thin black hand guard formed before the outer edge of her hand, the ash still floating away revealed a woven pattern on the hilt. Black weave showed off silver diamond shapes along the long hilt and finished neatly with a black metal cap. The dusting of ash drifted away into the air, leaving her transformed weapon behind.
Kaori was now wielding a fine katana. With this revealed it was no wonder that her naginata was stronger than other weapons similar to it. She held the blade in her right hand, horizontally even across her torso so that the blade protected the length of the back her forearm and pointed far out past her elbow. Still the other half of her naginata remaining where it was with the naginata blade pointed at the ground barely millimeters from brushing particles of the sandy floor.
"Now then..." she smirked, fully enjoying herself and showing off some of her still hidden secrets the clan still didn't really know about. Unless of course... they decided to show up and watch. ((Rolling and editing... And because I've gotten a good feel about level six, I'm down shifting Kaori to a level 5 from here on to see how that level plays...))
"Hn." The fact that she shifted her attention while she was speaking to him had him curious as to what she was up to. He hadn't often seen Kaori fight besides that last mission he had joined them on. And even then... he hadn't seen this trick actually used in battle.
"What are..." his eyes widened as the bottom half of her naginata seemed to mostly dissipate into ashes, carried off by the wind and leaving behind a gleaming katana. Was that why her staff had seemed so strong? The way she held both of those weapons and the look in her eye, the smug little smile...
"You're actually enjoying this..." he murmured, "Remind me to never get on your bad side..." now he wondered just how he was going to fight a dual wielder but the challenge wouldn't forever just stand and wait until he figured it out, he knew that if he didn't get in gear, she'd come at him instead.
There was no time to figure it out now, so he rushed in for a series of clashes, his aim was to try to discern just how good she really was with both of those weapons in hand and if he got the chance... maybe he'd actually be able to disarm one of her weapons, and when he got that chance, he'd put most of his power into that swing.

Raven came rushing in and swung only to meet her katana head on for a series of quick slashes Kaori met his sword time and again with both of her weapons, it was obvious that he was actually pushing himself, not just keeping up with her but trying to outmatch her. Being bigger than she was, the blows she blocked were heavy ones, but they could easily be stronger. He was testing her and waiting.
But he didn't wait long, with one strong swing, he was able to dislodge the naginata half of her weapon from her left hand sending it spinning through the air only to lodge itself in the wall. Kaori followed the movement and back flipped repeatedly until there was space between them again. "Tsk..." next to her knee that rested upon the ground the dirt became splattered with blood. She'd been a bit careless.
Striking her katana into the ground, she placed her right hand over her left forearm and began to heal her injury. A blue light seeped into her wound beginning to knit the edges together.

Raven watched at Kaori escaped glad that she did as he panted lightly after his exertion. Noticing that when she stopped the ground turned a dark shade of rust. Her healing glow appeared in the next moment and he knew that he had hurt her. It was enough to make him stand a little straighter as he caught his breath and relaxed, if she was healing he probably severed tendons and had made that hand useless. He would wait until she was ready to begin again.
She even complemented him, that was a good sign that she was satisfied with his work so far. He knew that if he kept pushing, putting more energy into his attacks and if he didn't let her rest, he'd probably get the upper hand on her. But he had his own ideals when it came to fighting her, besides, this was training not a death match. While he was waiting he wondered if there was a way that he could incorporate his unique ability to help him. Well why not? He could give it a try.
He pictured in his mind the raven that he loved to fly as, normally it was just a simple thought and in a flash he became the bird, but what he wanted to try, was something a little different. He concentrated on those black wings. The pitch feathers that were so light and yet resilient, the way they arced and how they attached to his shoulders, how powerful they felt... he wanted the wings.. just the wings...
A thud on the sandy floor and he opened pitch dark eyes to gaze at his sword lying there, looking down at himself, it seemed like nothing had changed at first and then looking at his arms... realized that they had become wings. "Aw!" he folded the wings over his beak. At the moment the top half of him was bird and the bottom half was human. Kaori was looking down at her arm when she saw that Raven took a relaxed stance, she instantly knew he'd wait for her to finish healing her arm before attacking her again. And when she looked up again.. one delicate brow raised in question.
"Raven.. what the heck..?" he cawed and she burst into laughter at the half bird half man. "Although not a bad idea... you should practice growing your wings, but not right now. Hah-haha!" Rising from where she had been crouched she took up her katana in her right hand and as she walked forward it lifted from the ground easily.
"Alright, common.. back to sword play. Here I come!!"
Quickly closing the distance, there was plenty of time for him to scramble back into his normal form and grab his sword in time to defend. She went for a double attack, swinging her sword in two simple diagonal slashes from bottom right to upper left, recovering and coming around doing a diagonal slash in the opposite direction from bottom left to upper right.. effectively going for an 'x' pattern across his torso.~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Character Name: Kaori Yukiko
