This first post is not part of the actual tournament.

This post is going to be used for Zetshimaru to ask questions.

Question one is about Scizor. In the last region tournament Luther deemed Scizor to strong due to bullet punch. Zetshimaru doesn't see Scizor to be that much of a problem but Zetshimaru figured a crew vote would still be the ideal choice. So is Scizor too powerful for the Johto Cup?

Question two. Zetshimaru wishes to make this tournament a little different from other tournaments. So any idea on how Zetshimaru could spice it up?

Anyways onto the actual tournament stuff. Zetshimaru looks for feed back.

Welcome trainers to the Johto Cup. Here in this tournament trainers will be tested. Johto was an amazing place, it still is. This tournament is here to show case the fabulous pokemon hailing from the Johto region. This tournament style will be dependent on the amount or entries. If more then Six trainers enter the tournament the tournament will be a basic bracket tournament, if six or less trainers join the tournament will be a round robin tournament. Zetshimaru has talked enough now though, lets look over the tournament formalities now.

All battles need some kind of rules of engagement.

Rule Number One:
This is the base of the whole tournament. Only pokemon found in the new pokedex and the pokemon evoultions of said pokemon are aloud to battle. These pokemon include this list (Johto and Kanto pokemon). The following pokemon are evolutions that didn't make it into the new pokedex but they also get to compete in this tournament.
Togekiss, Yanmega, Magnazone, Ambipom, Electvire, Magmotor, Leafeon, Glaceon, Gliscor, Mamoswine, Porygon Z, Mismagius

Rule Number Two:
Rule number two is that the standard clauses of battle in effect during this tournament. The standard clauses are as follows.

Species Clause: All Pokemon must be different on any given team.

Sleep Clause: A trainer can only put 1 of the opponent's Pokemon to sleep at a single time. Self induced sleeping does not count toward this clause.

Self-KO Clause:
Pokemon cannot use moves like Explosion or Self-Destruct to win if it's the only Pokemon remaining on the trainer's team. The same applies for Perish Song and Destiny Bond.

Evasion Clause:
Moves like Double Team and Minimize are banned from being used.

Luck "Hax" Item Clause: When this clause is in effect, that means the following items are banned from use: Brightpowder, Quick Claw, Focus Band and King's Rock.

OHKO Clause:
Moves like Fissure, Guillotine, Horn Drill and Sheer Cold are banned from use.

Uber Clause: The following pokemon have been banned for balancing the tournament.
Mewtwo, Mew, Ho-oh, Lugia, Wobbuffet

Rule Number Three:

This rule is a big one. Anyone using an outside device to alter pokemon in any matter will be removed from the tournament.

Rule Number Four:

Each trainer will be allowed to use up to two legendary pokemon on any given team.

Rounds will be placed in this post, rounds will be posted weekly. If the tournament happens to be round robin these rounds are to help keep the tournament moving, but a trainer does not need to wait for a new round to be posted to keep battling. Keep in mind that the results of battle should be placed in this topic or sent in a message to Zetshimaru. (no matter what style of tournament)

A chart will be made after the tournament has started for an easy way to see tournament scores/bracket, but for now a list will be made with registered trainers.

Registered Trainers:

2.
3.

What tournament doesn't have prizes? Well not this one and that is all that matters no? A list of prizes will be posted after one has be compiled. First place will get first choice of the prizes while second place gets second and finally third gets the last choice.

For starters friend, I believe the pictures you have chosen, though quite lovely, are frankly, quite too big and making my browser have trouble loading the thread. Perhaps we can try to find a way to lower the size of the pics or resolution?

Concerning your questions, I have really never had a problem with scizor in the OU scene, especially since most of the physical walls I was packing had roar (to keep it at bay from setting up) and will-o-wisp to weaken it. (example: Weezing and nidoqueen)

Some of his other counters include Gyarados ( which can learn fire blast), and Zapdos (who can use heat wave.) which can take care of it, though it would be annoying to pack one of these just to have a counter for said poke. (reminds me of the garchomp days. razz )

Edit: Wow... shows how much I pay attention. I didn't even know Skarmory, Blissey and Tyranitar were from the G/S/C days. razz

Different banners/picture things got it. No banners until Zetshimaru thinks of something different.

Wow, that was essentially my original train on thought their Cormini... too bad I got driven out to get something to eat before I could finish my post. In either case, try and keep the pics down to a max of 500x500 pixels if at all possible Zet. I'm sure going over to about a max of 550-600 is also acceptable, but 500x500 is really prefered as it prevents horrid load time on slower PCs that may be possessed by our less fortunate members and it keeps things looking clean and uniform, no matter what resolution they have thier screens set to.

I can see Scizor causing some problems as about half of his counters are being removed from the Pokemon choice pool and I believe Luther's reason for removing it from the Kanto Tournament revolved around his limations of the legendary birds. But seeing how there aren't any easy setups for Scizor to obtain Swords Dance (ie-Ninjask being banned), I don't think Scizor would be all that hard to take down. Of course, on the other hand, it could over-centralize the tournament requiring every team to carry a counter for it (being it Gyarados, Zapdos, Skarmory or Magnezone).

As far as a way to make this tournament a bit different from other tournaments, (assuming we have enough interested members) how about changing up the preliminary round and make it a bunch of small battling pools (4-6 trainers per pool) done to determine positioning on the elimination bracket? Sort of like Round Robin except award points for how many remaining Pokemon they had per battle and the trainers at the very end of the preliminary get put into spots in the order of highest scores to lowest score. Person who did the best in the pools would battle the person with the lowest score, as a means to make the best in the pool to either have an easy bye or make the worst try to redeem him/herself in order to stay alive. At least, this is how Fencing tournaments were run by the local clubs around here back when I was a competition fencer. ninja

Example of a elimination bracket:
1.
12.

2.
11.

3.
10.

4.
9.

5.
8.

6.
7.

Tyranitar makes Scizor harder to counter as sandstorm doesn't hurt Scizor but does hurt about half of his counters and Blissey isn't very good at taking physical hits. That's not to mention Scizor having access to Superpower now which does equal lights out for both T-tar and Blissey.

DOUBLE POST!

This might be a bit one sided but here's another idea, why not make challengers pick Johto city/towns in order to represent and they can only use Pokemon for the surrounding routes/landscape of that town?
PostPosted: Thu Jun 17, 2010 3:30 pm

Honestly Zetshimaru thought of saying trainers must use one of the six starters in all teams. As if it really was the trainers starting pokemon, but Zetshimaru thought that was limiting.

The city idea seems hard though. How many pokemon are there around each city/town?

Also new banners/pictures are going up now (putting them on photobucket first) The pictures are smaller in size and smaller in data size due to the pictures being saved as jpegs instead of pngs.

Edit:

Zetshimaru totally does not understand Kyrenx's tournament style thingy........

Okay, the small battle pool... is like a round robin. For every Pokemon of thier opponent's they faint (yes I changed it) they get a +1 point towards thier tournament standings. In a pool of 4 people, there is a max of 48 points and a minimum of 0 points (though I doubt anyone would score that low). After all the battle pools are done, you then put everyone in order from the highest score earned to the lowest score earned.

So assuming there was only two battle pools going on (for a total of 8 entrants)
User Image

With the way the bracket is setup, the person who did the best in the battle pool would have to battle the person who did the worst in battle pool. In either case, it's just a thought.. if it's too confusing for us to explain to each other, it might be even harder to explain to people wanting to join. xd

Is Zetshimaru safe to assume that this isn't going to go public till Kyrenx's tournament is nearing an end?

It's up to you really, but just to avoid too much lag on either tournament, would you mind waiting until preliminaries for the Summer Tournament end (or approach about a week from ending)?

Zetshimaru personally thinks that the tournament would turn out the best if Zetshimaru waits to get registration going at about the same time the semi-finals or finals of Kyrenx tournament. Then start the first round after Kyrenx's tournament was over. (week or two?)

That was Zetshimaru's thought's. Zetshimaru was just double checking that there wasn't already a plan for when each tournament was to start.

As soon as preliminaries end, then it's straight onto the final direct elimination of the Summer Tournament. So far with 10 entrants, we're looking at 3 or 4 rounds (elimination round, semi-finals and finals). Did you ever fully decide on the rules and format for the Johto tournament, since you said you wanted to try something new and different?
