The soft singing of frogs filled the air, their chips and barks reverberating off the trees, rocks, and bushes. Occasionally, there was the soft 'plunk' of one jumping in the water, or a thrown insult between amphibians. If they were aware of the lioness, they paid her little mind as they calmly hopped away.
Nenetl crouched down, ears back and a grin on her face. The swamps were fun, a great place to simply... Play. Mle had given up, at least for the day, on further teaching her the ways of the swamp pride. There were many things she understood, but others she didn't yet. Like why Mle was adverse to pouncing on frogs... But it was just as well to her, as the lioness jumped forward, missing the frog and landing in the water with a peel of laughter. If anybody saw her, they might question her sanity.

Licking at the dirt between the pads on her paws, Jua Kali hummed a tune to herself, trying to match the hum of a nearby bug. She had spent the whole day playing with bugs and was quite tired to say the least. Growing up certainly wasn't easy for the young lioness, and she knew that soon she would be old enough to leave for her naming journey, which she knew very little about. Other then that, she was starting to feel funny towards boys from time to time, and she wasn't sure what to make of that. Certainly she didn't want to ask her mother.
Hearing a splash in the distance, Kali tilted her head in curiosity. This was a part of the swamps where usually only her siblings played and she was sure they were nowhere nearby. Shaking her head, Kali slowly crept through the swamp trees in an attempt to find the source of the noise.

Sitting up in the water, Nenetl let out a peel of laughter. Her ears suddenly flicked back, before she turned, wet hair moving. In a sing-song voice, she called out, "Whoever is lurking in the bushes, might find it fun to come chase little poliwogs in the shallows ~!" A bark near by made her turn, standing and pouncing on the frog. She was all muddy, but she didn't care - She was having herself some fun! Life was boring if you didn't live a little and do some silly things!

Hearing the call of what sounded like a female lioness, probably one of her pride, Kali crept out of the bushes, watching the adult, who was covered in mud. She never really realized that adults were allowed to have fun. Her parents never seemed to encourage getting covered in mud, so she just assumed that was the way all the grown-ups were.
Cocking her head slightly she took only seconds to make up her mind, and plunged right into the shallow murky waters, excited to get muddy and not be scolded for it.

Nenetl let out a laugh, getting covered in more mud. It delighted her to see another playing, before she got distracted by a poliwog. The little mostly-formed frog hopped away, the lioness diving after it. She succeeded in covering herself further, as well as splashing water everywhere. An adult frog darted past in the water, and her paws flailed to catch it. There was no intent to harm them, just chase and catch them. "See? Chasing poliwogs is fun!"

At the same time that the older lioness spoke, Kali was almost on a frog, but it managed to get away when she was distracted by hearing the lioness speak. She frowned, but then sat up and shook her head... a bit drier, then it was previously, after jumping into the waters. "Yeah... it is... but I'm all muddy now!" She began to panic a bit, realizing her mother would scold her heavily if she didn't make herself clean before heading home later that day. "You're all grown up so how come you play in the mud?" Kali was very interested in what reason this lioness had, because it was just so... unusual.

Sitting up in the water, Nenetl grinned wide. Her hair hung in her face, dripping with mud and water, but she didn't mind it one bit. "Why not? Life's no fun without some fun! Sometimes you just gotta stop and chase frogs!" With a ribbit, one landed on her head, causing her ears to perk and her eyes to roll up and look at it. "Oh! Froggy!" A grin lit her face up as she just sat there, enjoying the amphibious company.

Amazed by the frog that had decided to perch on top of the older female's head Kali crawled up close to the frog and lioness, crouched just a few feet away, staring in awe. "I agree with you, but I always get in trouble when I try to have this kind of fun. My parents hate it when I come home covered in mud." She frowned sighing.

The smile turned into a frown. "Oh..." Shaking the frog off her head, Nenetl stood up, shaking a bit of mud off. "Well, then, we'll just wash the mud off!" She went wading over to the deeper water, sliding in with ease. Ducking her head under a moment, she surfaced and swam around, only stopping to pull herself out by the roots of a tree. Shaking out, she smiled at Jua. "There, see? All clean!" She paused. "You can swim, right...?" She hoped she could, at least.

When the other lioness came out of the water, Jua kali had been inching towards the deeper water. In all honesty she had only 'swam' once. Because her brother had pushed her in. And that really had not gone over so well. Looking up at the older lioness she half smiled,"Well, there's a first time for everything... right?"
Jua Kali continued to slowly inch into the deep water until she was up to her nose, and then she began to kick... well flail her legs around. After a few moments of random flailing, she figured out that synchronizing her movements would probably work better.
This time, Kali swam. She dunked her head under the water a moment to clean off the mud, and then she swam to the shore over by the older lioness and pulled herself out.

At first, Nenetl was worried - Visibly so - at the cub's statement of it being her first time swimming. But when the younger lion took to the water like any other animal, her smile returned. "There, see? Water is good and fun!" She took a moment to shake any extra water off again. "And we're all clean now, no more mud! Your momma'll be proud you're so clean!" As usual, Nenetl was all smiles, ears perked forward.

Kali was extremely happy. She had gotten to play in the mud, with someone else. An adult no less. She had gotten clean, which would keep her mother happy, and she had gotten to feel free. Something she wasn't really used to. Plus she had learned to swim.
"Mommah will certainly be happy! She hates cleaning mud. But... I don't even know your name. I'm Jua Kali!" And Jua Kali was all grins.

"Oh! I have no manners!" The lioness sat down, did her best to look regal... And then made a goofy face. "I'm Nenetl!" There would be serious moments for her... This wasn't one. She liked being silly and non-serious, it made life funner!

Kali liked this lioness, Nenetl. She liked the fact that there was an adult who knew how to have fun. None of the other adults she knew seemed to know how. "I don't like manners much, they make everyone boring and stuff." Kali frowned the stuck her tongue out, as if sticking it out at manners. "They just... suck. Like when you step on a stink bug."

The lioness wrinkled her nose, laughing at the cub's antics. "Oh, manners are good for SOME things... At least as far as introducing each other." She paused, thinking about it. "That and 'women and children first'... That at least is a manner that ensures the survival of future generations." She couldn't really think of any other manners, though...
