Konnichiwa Minasan (hello everyone),
I was just wondering if I'm the only Yuu Watase fan.. I'm hoping there's more.. I'm currently reading Fushigi Yuugi Genbu Kaiden and looking for a small discussion and/or any other books I should look into by Yuu..
The works I've read so far by Yuu are Ceres Celestial Legend and Fushigi Yuugi: The Mysterious Play. I'm new with anime and manga, and slowly investing more time into them... I used to be one of those no-try-ers, who just made assumptions and said, "comics and cartoons are just for kids" like the Trix cereal, and now since my friends introduced me, I'm hooked..
Favorite characters in Fushigi Yuugi (Mysterious Play): Chichiri and Nuriko. I just think Nuriko has an awesome attitude, potentially LGBT (which from what I've seen in anime/manga is rare unless it's that genre), and as I'm one who loves speed as in jogging, running, jumping, not the drug, so I love Chichiri. He appears out of nowhere and fast and can somewhat mini-travel fast! Plus, he has a mask and when serious, looks people right in the eye without it..

I used to be a big fan of Fushigi Yuugi, but the more time goes by, the less I like it. I think it's the Miaka!/Tamahome! overdose that happens. That and the fact that I wish Yui would bitchslap more people. 3nodding
Absolute Boyfriend is pretty good so far. It's interesting. Alice 19th is also pretty good.
I also got to meet Watase Yuu at Animazement in '01. Here she is signing my Tasuki cel. I actually got to see her outside the signing table. I was digging thru the cel books looking for IY and FY cels and when I looked up.... she was digging thru them right beside me! o_o :minininja: She also wanted my Tasuki cel. MINE, dammit! >O

I used to really love Fushigi Yuugi (Mysterious Play). I got...right up to almost at the end of the series, then never finished. I think I'm missing the last 1-2 volumes of the TV series; don't quite recall. I'm not a big romance fan, so the sappy/melodramatic Miaka/Tamahome stuff started to turn me off a bit toward the end, but for the most part...I just didn't have much money or time and fell out of it.
I still want to get the DVD set at some point (I have all the VHS tapes), and I expect I'd be happy to get back into the show if I watched it again.
Tasuki was my favourite character. (Which shouldn't surprise anyone, as my dog is named Genrou.) I enjoyed how he acted like such a tough guy, but ended up being one of the biggest softies of the bunch. He was also just plain fun.
I was interested in seeing Ayashi no Ceres, I just never got around to it. I don't see a great deal of anime any more. I still like it, but I'm not as into it as I was years ago.

I'm a flippin' huge Watase fan...
I LOVE all the versions of Fushigi Yuugi, especially Genbu Kaiden. (Though, my favorite character still remains as Tasuki. He's just adorable. Especially in Eikouden. 4laugh ) I've watched almost all of the episodes in the original anime (except the parts where Chiriko fights Miboshi because the discs I bought that had those episodes crapped out and I couldn't watch it nor return it. stressed ) and have read up to volume 12 of the manga. However, I'm not so up-to-date on Genbu Kaiden as I'm only up to Volume 4 of the manga.
I've finished Zettai Kareshi, in which I felt cheated by the ending. And I've only read the first two volumes of Ceres. I'm hoping to be able to get the whole series at Otakon for significantly less than it would cost me to buy manga at the local bookstore.
I've also read some of her lesser-known works like Appare Jipangu and Imadoki, which are both fabulously adorable in their own ways.
Again, I'm a huge Watase follower. heart

I agree with the thing with Miaka and Tamahome...and everyone's obsession with Miaka.. they said her name way too many times for my taste.. I started out reading the Genbu Kaiden, was confused, and then ended up getting the Mysterious Play manga and was more puzzled until I went and got the anime (it's cheaper than $10/book).. How did you come up with Genrou? Is it another anime or manga? Ceres is good more if you like drama and romantic pieces. It has quite a sappy ending, and it's made almost all my friends cry now that I've borrowed it to... but creatively done and cute!

hollywood_addict That's awesome! You got to meet Yuu? What was she like? She was really adorable. eek She'd get so excited over the cosplayers and would squeal and kyaa over them, then bug them for a picture with them. whee Most people gave her books/tapes/DVDs to sign. But since I gave her a rare Tasuki holding a sword cel to sign, she stared at it for a while and told her translator that she really liked my cel.
Mala: She signed on the actual cel. I had given it to her in the bag, but she took it out of the bag and signed it. I didn't want to insult her by screaming "OMG!! MY CEL!!!", gonk but I do wish she signed the cel bag and not the cel. sweatdrop Oh well... it's all good in the end. I'm not parting with my precious Tasuki cel ever, so it's not like it's gone down in value or anything. *highly values it* 3nodding

So she doesn't really know English? From reading editors notes in her manga, I was under the impression she might be bilingual? Maybe not? That's cute, too.. that would be exciting to have cosplayers for one's work... and that she didn't brag but was just excited to take pictures with them.. How old do you think she is? Young 20s? Early 40s? 30's? She really seems to have a positive grasp on life from the stuff she or her translator talks about in the mangas, thus, also animes...?

She probably knows enough english to get by on her own. But when americans are chattering at her in rapid english, she DID need a translator. She seemed around the same age group as me. I'm almost 30 now, so I assume she's around the same age.
This one cosplayer had a really nice costume of Suzaku. She said "Sugooooooooooiiii~" and started chattering to her translator in japanese. The translator said she really wanted a photo with her [Suzaku cosplayer], the translator took a few pictures, then she told the cosplayer that her costume was so good, shook her hand enthusiasticly, and thanked her. Watase-sensei was so cute. heart

I bought the japanese versions at Kinokuniya when I was in San Francisco... Sorry for the confusion.
Otakon is an anime convention which I attend, and I'm hoping to get the whole Ceres manga series at the dealer's room there so I can save money. Appare Jipangu is another Watase piece, but I don't think it's released (or will be released) in the U.S. sweatdrop

That's super awesome! My computer hates hiragana, kanji, katakana, so I can only write rooma-ji.. if you want to practice Nihongo (I'm only going into level 2 though), I'll be happy to do it!

Anyone know how long the Imadoki series is? I just finished Vol 1, and it sounds really REALLY kawai/cute! I didn't realize that her name meant dandelion for awhile... oh well, new words for me in Japanese 102 this spring! But as I'm in college, I need to figure out where this money is all going to come from... if the series is short, I would hope e-bay could get me 1/2 price...?
