a red and white basket with some feathers on the ground near it, was all alone with no one to take care of it. every once in a while the foal inside would move about and cause the basket to wiggle some. it was a bit of a chilly day and a foal inside a basket with no one to protect it would not last long. the small foal inside would be lucky if someone would come by and decide to take care of her, since her parents where long gone.

It seemed like today might be a lucky day for the basket after all. There was a horse ambling up the path, a large black stallion with not one pair of wings, but two. This was Auster the angeni, and perhaps it wouldn't such a good day for the basket after all... The foul-tempered stallion was far from predictable, and there was no telling what his reaction to the small basket would be.
He almost went right past it. If the red and gold hadn't been so out of place amongst the underbrush, he probably would have. As it were, he took a second glance in that direction, and realized what was there. A basket. He stopped, and frowned. Was it empty? Abandoned by its previous tenant? Or was there someone inside? If the parents were around, it wouldn't do to meddle with the thing. Auster wasn't looking to be snarled at by a hormonal mare. Especially not if she was a skinwalker or a kolona.
Still though, he was curious. He took a glance around, and when he didn't see anyone, he went over to the basket and nudged it with his nose, taking a sniff.

the basket wiggled about some when nudged and sniffed at. a tiny little noise could be heard from the basket as the foal inside had not expected someone to be messing with basket at all. the basket has been left alone for some time so it was a shock for the foal inside that someone finally was there and around her basket. wiggling some more, the foal inside did not want whoever it was to leave her alone like her parents had done. though she really had no real clue as to why they where gone.

He was quite surprised when the basket wiggled in return and he took a step back. He really hadn't expected there to be a foal in there. Frowning deeply, he looked around again. The forest had been quiet the whole time he'd been walking. Surely he would have heard the foal's parents around. From what he had witnessed, a mother wouldn't have left her foal for very long, and wouldn't have gone very far. Especially as a basket, what hope did the poor thing have out in the forest? If the wild animals didn't get it, it would die from exposure.
Looking down at the basket, he watched it wiggle about. There didn't seem to be anything wrong with it. He didn't understand why it could have been left behind, and the basket, as well as the surroundings weren't giving him any clues. After a while, he shrugged. It was none of his business. He should be going anyway. He had things to be doing, and he didn't want to be there if the mother came back.
If. The thought made his brow furrow, but he started back toward the path anyway.

hearing him walk off only made her whine and rustle around her basket even more to get his attention. she did not want to be alone anymore since it only made her very scared even if she was somewhat protected by her basket. it wouldn't be much longer before a predator would end up finding her basket if she was left on her own with no one to protect her.

Surprisingly, the sound of its whining and rustling about cut into him. It was just a foal, abandoned as a baby. On its own, it wouldn't survive, and who knew if someone else would wander past it like he had. Its not like this way was well-travelled. He had serious doubts that the parents were coming back, and if no one else came across the basket in time...
Sighing, Auster turned back around and headed back to the basket. He had no idea what he was doing, he had no children of his own, but for the time being, he resigned himself to sticking near the basket, at least until the foal was ready to come out. He circled around, and once he had found a comfortable spot, settled down near the basket, tucking it in close to his warm side so he could protect it with his great wings. He had no idea what was in the basket, but noticing the feathers around it, he was hopeful it would have wings. If not, he'd just take it to the nearest herd when it came out, no harm done.
He lay his head down next to the basket and nuzzled it lightly. "I'll keep you safe, little one," he murmured. "Do not fear."

the basket soon settled down when it heard his words and was comforted by the fact he was staying. the foal inside soon fell into a peaceful sleep, as it now had no worries at the moment. but little did the stallion protecting her know that she was indeed a angeni just like he was and that the few feathers that where outside the basket where in fact hers.

Assuming full well that he was going to regret this, he settled down to rest and keep a watchful eye out. How long was it before a foal came out of its basket? He hoped not too long. He had no idea how to move it. Grumbling slightly to himself, he tucked his wings tighter around her and stared out into the forest.
