He lowered his snout to the earth mid-run, slowing only to catch a breath.
The forest smelled heavily of rain, enormous black clouds rolling about an afternoon sky with frightening speeds. The power this storm-to-be had inspired Hayden, pupil-less green eyes searching every billow that was created. His large, dark ears flicked when a low roar in the distance was made, and under his breath he counted.
"1...2...3" Another rumble came, a sheath of grey closing in as he sprinted through the forest.
Hayden's tail swatted the air behind it, to the left and to the right swinging effortlessly with his long-limbed dash. For those who saw him, when they saw him, he all but flew over bushes and between trees. Like a black ghost with a mission he was down the fields from whence he came, bounding across the plateau until at last, his destination was in sight.
A large, hallowed den with vines and flowers scattered around it waited on him. The mouth was open only so wide as to fit the largest part of him, and even then the gap was tight. Skidding to a steady pace, the wolf loped with not even a grin on his maw...His gaze was lifeless, but they moved and searched the forest around him endlessly.
For those who saw him, Hayden was not a wolf to be messed with...that is, when they saw him indeed. Before he tucked away his nose began to twitch and to his left flank, he jerked his head.
Had he heard something?

Deep in the den Vaughn had been sitting, waiting for what he didn’t know he was just waiting.
It had been about a week away from his pack and already he missed the ability to have wolves around him, to have his mother talking his ear off and his father beat the hell out of him for training. It wasn’t like he was built to be a lone wolf; in fact he was born to be part of the stronger wolves of his pack. Silently his tail waged against the grainy den floor, he heard someone coming.
It wasn’t that he was happy it could be anyone, it could be a female or some murder crazy hungry wolf that would easily kill and eat him if need be.
Pushing the thoughts away Vaughn stood to full attention, and now he had a reason to wait for this new maybe murder crazy or female wolf. Once he knew the wolf was fully inside Vaughn went forward coming more into the lighted area for the other wolf to see him. The rain poured on outside but thankfully he was close enough to the wolf so he could sense his gender.
It was a male wolf, good news. “I’m Victory Vaughn.” That’s all that was needed to be said and truthfully that’s all that Vaughn really wanted to say, this wolf could still be a killer.

Hayden thought he heard it come from behind, still twisting and turning his neck to catch even the slightest glimpse of a stray paw or muzzle, but oh the trickster! The hairs within his ears twitched listlessly when a voice came to them...He was hidden within the den; hisden, a crisp blue male boldly standing ground.
At first the black male didn't know what to do, other then let instincts overcome his worry. Every joint locked in place, hackles became stiff and bristly in dismay; there had been several days since he and this particular hole had seen one another, but that could not have been long enough for others to find it...and further more claim it.
Unlike the alpha he had once known, Hayden's cool-headed nature would come after the excitement died down. He could not trust everyone, no matter how badly he wanted to, and because he played second-in-command for so long...he never had to trust anyone; just get rid of them.
To add on to his shame, there hadn't been any scent trails leading to this spot. Had there been? At least none that he had made note of...Hayden couldn't believe he would have missed over something so vital as another wolfs smell, it was the first thing he always looked for...usually.
After several moments his shoulders took a dive and his muscles relaxed. With tail flexed still and toes digging into the soil, the dark wolf took in a breath, testing the air. Eyeballing the invading male, scrutinizing with a solemn facade, words finally came to his charcoal lips.
"Victory Vaughn, pleasure. I apologize ahead of time for this, but you are in my den and quite frankly I don't like it."
"What exactly are you doing here and who, exactly, do you belong to?" In reference to his questions, he meant a pack.

Glancing around Vaughn knew not to leave his stance to loose for if the male before him did attack he would be dead easily. The den did have a strong scent of the male before him, he must not have picked it up with the rain being so heavy and his senses being so fired from it. His blue fur stuck heavily to his body, cooling Vaughn to the very bone he should have checked more thoroughly.
“I am thoroughly sorry for invading your space but I just wished to get out of the rain.” Gesturing towards the heavy whether Vaughn knew not to try and act to tough or act too much at all for it could mean death or insult to the wolf before him.
“I do not belong to a pack nor do I wish for trouble, step aside and I will leave.” Standing Vaughn’s fur stood on end getting ready if read be, he didn’t want to fight nor did he want to go back out into the rain but he knew one was going to happen if he stepped out of bounds for just a moment. Gesturing towards the small opening of the den Vaughn did his best to stand completely still, not to make a movement and seemingly distract the wolf from his thoughts or ownership.

It felt right for the Vaughn to leave. The den was, after all, Hayden's and with the competition that had exploded over the past few months, none could be too open to guests. But just like that, a shockingly loud BOOM erupted from the skies, shaking the den and its inmates. Hayden did not move, ears poised high on his head despite the claps of lightning that followed.
"No, it is alright." It was Phib's face who came to mind when he said this, bringing a sideways grin to his dark maw. "Stay a while and dry up, the weather is horrid this afternoon. I'd feel guilty letting you leave." Certainly he wasn't against it, but...something told him to simply trust that the situation would work itself out.
He shook his ash pelt, drops of water flinging this way and that, before glancing back at the storm. "It really is bad, isn't it. Summer time is suppose to be sunny..." Turning back to Vaughn, Hayden walked around the blue male without looking at him, trying to be as reassuring as possible. I won't hurt you His relaxed appearance read, lips pressed together firmly so as not to alarm the stranger with a toothy display.
Then, when he reached the back end of the cave he dropped all the weight in his body to his rump and flattened out against the den floor. Settling into his spot and crossing his paws, the male waited to see what would happen next, certain that his act of acceptance would be enough for Vaughn to stay, comfortably.

Frowning Vaughn nodded before lying down in eye sight of his fellow wolf, “Thank you.” He bowed his head forward towards the wolf who allowed him to live in this den from the rain. It was odd to have such a willing wolf allow him into this area, usually with a den this so far out it is highly protected he is insanely lucky to have this situation happen to him.
“Are you an outcast?” He knew how to deal with males, they were easy they wanted the details and that’s it but maybe this one was different? Or maybe it was only his pack that had buttholes as males? ‘Ha, butt holes indeed, his father was the main one.’

He chuckled. "No, I am not; not necessarily." And he wasn't. He left Phibs lands on his own terms after things seemed to die down and only a handful of wolves remained. The lot were not evil, although some had their moments; everyone did...Hayden actually missed the days of old. But he was alone now, which in some ways made him just that...an outcast.
Drawing his left paw in toward his chest and tucking it accordingly, Hayden nodded his head toward Vaughn. "How about you? Do you have a pack?"

Tucking his own paws against his chest Vaughn nodded, then paused for a moment realizing he still referred to his previous pack as his… pack…
“No I don’t have a pack… My… The pack I was living in, that I was raised in from birth found something wrong with me and kicked me out.” Shrugging as if he didn’t care Vaughn tried to play as much the non-caring wolf as possible. “I’m fine on my own though, doesn’t matter much…”
Just before settling into a comfortable sleeping position Vaughn’s head snapped to the wolf with him, “Though I will admit that I do miss it.”

"Don't we all." Hayden replied, lowering his muzzle in thought. There were days that he acted out old parts he had once played, charging around the forest, enveloped completely in the role-play. A flush of heat passed over his face, memories that came to mind so vivid...he had to shut his eyes for them to stay true.
But Hayden could not forget the wolf that rested before him; a loner with intentions that seemed kind at first, but could take a turn for the worse. He feigned interest, trying to hide the uncertainty in his face. "What exactly did they find...wrong? If you don't mind me prying."
Curling his tail against his propped up thigh, the male sighed. "We do have a couple of hours before the rain lets up..."

Looking back up to the wolf Vaughn nodded, this was true they do need to pass the time some way or another. Glancing around Vaughn couldn’t help but get pulled into the darkness of his thoughts, of his memories that were consuming him as of late. His tail itched at the memory of his first time with his father in a den, it wasn’t pleasant. Surprisingly as he thought about it nothing about his father was pleasant.
Pushing the thoughts away Vaughn stretches around almost as if relieved by having to push his memories away.
“I wasn’t noble enough as my father put it, I wasn’t a fit suitor as my mother put it… And everyone else just went along with it I guess. No one seems to have liked me for me it turns out.”
“What about you?”

Watching Vaughn's face contort as it did, Hayden assumed the memories were far worse then what he could imagine...and it was in times like these that he favored the lack of seer abilities. But, even without even knowing, Hayden had seen so many wolves lose their footing due to family pressures that he felt he knew almost too well what Vaughn had endured.
Dark lips turned down in a frown, listening with a gaze so intent. Although quite the loner, Hayden had a soft spot for vulnerability; speaking out, the blue male seemed to be just what Hayden appreciated most. "That is a shame." His weight shifted, settling into a more comfortable position.
"Mothers and fathers only want the best of us, or so that is what they say. There are times when I believe it, in fact I lived it, and other times when I can see that the wrong isn't in the children; but in the parents themselves." He breathed. The grey along his back, splotches that faded into an ebon base, twitched irritably. Wolves became parents at too young an age…it wasn’t right. It wasn’t fair.
"I have, undoubtedly, made mistakes in my past that I wish I could renew...but I did not leave my pack for any other reason then to leave. No one forced me, no one pushed me…I loved my alpha, his mate, and the members themselves. We fought a great many battles together, won almost every one. Ours was a strong pack, but—inevitably all great things must come to their ends at some point. So now, I am here.” Flicking his tongue out, Hayden began to pant. Gentle breaths that cooled his heating form…he truly missed the old days.

Sighing Vaughn envied the wolf with him, he was so powerful and bold and he knew what needed to happen to make his life happy, or at least that’s what Vaughn got from him. As the short time passed through the conversations Vaughn wondered about love at times, did he love his family? Well of course they raised him but did he love them now? Pondering on the sudden realization of what it could mean for his hatred Vaughn rested his head against his curled in paws.
“Did you ever find a mate?” Maybe he could share a few things with this male before he left, maybe this guy was meant to help him get over his own fears of everything in the world or maybe even train him! He was train enough! Suddenly his tail was wagging and his head was up eager for the answer, and to ask more questions.
The realization hit him though, he was being so rude asking that kind of question, “Sorry for the rude way of asking, you don’t need to answer.” He must seem like a pup in the eyes of others, eager to learn, eager to please, and afraid of females… Letting out a puff Vaughn went back to resting his head against his paws, what was he going to do with his life now that he was alone and away from the only family he had ever known?

Hayden laughed briskly, not at Vaughn although it might have seemed that way. The youth were so excitable, eager to please and be pleased all the same...it brought Hayden even further back to the days when he, too, found conversations worth grinning goofily over. "I don't mind."
"I have had many opportunities to have and hold a mate...and I have failed to take advantage of any at all. My priorities back then were scattered, and I was a scatterbrained fool to have devoted so much time and effort into something that was fleeting. It is alright though, I enjoy what company I can get now...I think I am making up for it all."
He had nothing against females; in fact he would not mind finding a mate to settle down with now, but Hayden was not one to push an issue that was either fated to happen or not. The black wolf turned his head to the rain, grumbles, screeches and bright lights resounding threateningly.
Then he let his gaze fall on the males again, tilting his face and slacking his jaw. "How about yourself, Vaughn?"

Frowning Vaughn’s tail wrapped tightly around himself tightly; this was the part where Vaughn had to come out and tell this obvious alpha, or at least close to it, that he had such a huge weakness against a species that was weak in the males mind. ‘Why am I so different…’
“I… Well… I don’t quite have the ability to… Um speak correctly and well… Alright now that’s not true.” Biting his tongue Vaughn glanced around frowning, this was so difficult to say out loud to someone who was so powerful. “I have a certain fear of females you see… And I was hoping, well wondering…” and suddenly he felt like a pup again.
“I need help trying to break myself of my fear of females; I don’t even quite understand it myself… But if you could, do you think that maybe… You could just help me?” He knew it was rude but he just wished so badly that he could be normal around females and maybe start a family.

It wasn't completely absurd. Females were mysterious creatures with prowess and manipulative properties that, at times, surpassed a males own. Plenty of wolves had illegitimate frets in fact, a fear of dirt or the sky falling on top of them; So Hayden didn't void out the possibility of Vaughn experiencing something...tragic involving a lady.
Vaughn's plea threw him off a bit, lips drawn up to the left in question. They had only just met, and even though Hayden offered more to Vaughn then he had ever to any lone wolf; there were no links here. No ties to friendship...He could not be too careful, letting his guard down and all. Arching his neck, the male grunted.
"I'm not sure I would be much help to you Vaughn. You see, I believe facing your fears is the best way to rid of them. I am no female, and I do not know of any around these parts."
