It was finally here, the best time of the year. The sun stayed out for most of the day chasing away the shadows that threatened to steal you away. The beautiful glowing orb that bathed everything in a warming light making all bad feelings flee. Seraphia loved the summer season more than many things. She had been born in the summer and it served as a constant comfort for her during the long winter nights, summer would be just around the corner. Now that it had finally arrived she was making the most of it.
She made her way gracefully over fields enjoy the scent of the warm grass under her hooves. The sun beaming down on her caused her to radiate a golden glow of her own. Her cornsilk mane and tail appeared to be made out of light themselves rather than hair. The cross that swung like a pendulum before her glinted with ever step she took drawing attention of many crows and magpies alike.
It was not the type of attention she desired however. On a beautiful day like this she wanted to play. She needed someone to play with. Her feathers ruffled as she peered around. But who could she play with?

Mouse scuttled through the grass; it really was the only way to describe how she was crossing the field, heading for home and the safety of her family, her heart fluttering swiftly in her chest, just like her namesake's would. Of course it was unlikely that she would be able to stay out of view properly, she was a deep patterned blue moving against green.
She stopped every now and again, head popping up before she lowered herself almost to the ground, tail twitching behind her as she continued to travel across the open field as swiftly as her little legs could carry her.
Pausing again she poked her head up amongst the wildflowers and let out a squeak. Right in her path, a few yards from where she was crouched was a large, winged mare - a stranger!

Seraphia's wings flared at the sudden sound. It was like a very large rodent had just stumbled open her. Somewhat hesitantly she stepped closer to the origin of the sound there was something dark lurking the the grass. She tensed and stopped her movement. It was like a living shadow was hiding from her.
Willing her feathers to lay flat once again she took another step forward. "Come out come out Little Shadow~" She called in a sing song tone. "Come into the sun to pla-ay~" A wide grin spread across her face though her eyes still remained partially lidded. The over all effect gave her the look of a demon rather than the angel she claimed to be.
"I promise I won't hurt you~"

Well that was it, she'd been heard..or seen. Or both. She trembled, listening to the mare speak. Play? Was the mare nuts? Telling the filly what she wanted to hear was more like it, but she really had no choice. If she tried to run the strange mare would definately see her, and would either outrun her or fly after her. Either way Mouse was caught.
'P-promise?' she said, her voice quiet, only just audible above the rustling movement of the grass. She pushed further upwards, emerging properly and blinked at the mare, trembling in her little hooves as she looked at her.

"I promise." She cooed again watching at the little creature emerged from it's hiding place in the grass. Well she could certainly say that this was not what she had been expecting. It was just another soquili, a dark one but still a horse very much like her. It was clear that she was speaking with a child though with her small stature the foals head could easily come up to her neck. She sighed a little.
The child was somewhat less interesting than she had been hoping for but there was still something unusual about her. Humming curiously she took a few steps angling herself to move closer to the foals side. "There is something wrong with your tail Little Shadow." She commented eying the appendage with some interest.
She had never seen a unicorn before or anything that wore a cat's tail rather than one of hair. It was very unusual indeed.

The mare might not have been as big as her own mother was, but she was still bigger than Mouse..and a stranger so even though she emerged from the grass she still kept herself as small as possible, shrinking away without seeming to move.
'Wrong?' Mouse echoed, her head turning, and for a moment she chased her tail round and around, trying to catch the tricksy thing. She finally settled for flopping on the floor and coiling it around to be held between her two front legs.
'W-what's wrong with it?' she asked, looking up at the mare, her face radiating worry.

"Oh yes it's quite wrong." Seraphia watched the unusual horse-like creature spin a circle to try and seize her tail. The golden mare was vaguely reminded of young pups. Amusement flitted about behind her eyes as she watched the child drop to the ground giving up on catching the thing standing.
"Oh you poor little Shadow, you can't see it?" She cooed sympathetically striding over to stand right next to the filly. Looming above the little one she smiled down. "The shape is all wrong of course." She fanned out a wing and gestured the the feline-like tail. "That belongs on another animal entirely. I'm afraid you've been put together all wrong."
Seraphia shook her head sadly before turning slightly and to bow her head at her own tail. "This is what a tail is meant to be like." She flicked it one way and then the next sending ripples down the silky hairs. "You see?"

Mouse's eyes filled up and her bottom lip jutted out before she burst out; 'I'm not wrong! Why are you saying those things..' she virtually wailed at the mare.
'My daddy has a tail just like mine!' she squeaked, well stated but because she was still nervous it came out as a tremulous squeak. She sniffed loudly and looked at Seraphia's tail.
'My mummy has one of those but my daddy doesn't and that's why my tail is like this!' she hugged the tail to herself, wishing she was at home with her family right this moment.

The look in Seraphia's eyes was one of amusement. It wasn't often that she gave an assessment and was met by silly protests and unhappy wailing. More often than not she was met by displays of anger and aggression to make her take back her words. There was no fun in that and only added more poor descriptors to their long lists. To Little Shadow's list she was adding a new word as well: docile.
"My my my, you don't say..." Her tone was simpering the lock on her face mock sympathy. She lowered herself to the ground and draped a wing over the filly in what could be a comforting gesture. Really she was essentially just blocking a few escape routes. "If that is the case Little Shadow than I would say that you are only have wrong and your father is to blame for it."
At this point she gave the little creature a truly saddened smile. How terrible it must have been for the filly to be forced into a family that was half wrong. It was such a shame that not all creatures could be born into glorious families like hers.

Mouse sniffled, feeling both comforted and a only a tiny bit worried by the wing that was draped around her small form. She wasn't old enough or worldly enough (as she was a filly it was no surprise) to understand deception and cruelty for one's amusement and so she didn't wriggle away as swiftly as her hooves could carry her.
'Daddy is to blame?' she asked, her voice wobbling at even the thought of her darling father having somehow to be blamed for what was evidently wrong with her tail.
'I'm sure he not mean it, or maybe it not his fault either!' she piped up, trying to find a way so that everyone was right as that was easier for her to handle. Conflict made her tummy go into knots..

"Poor Little Shadow..." She cooed sadly actually meaning it. "I'm afraid that's correct. Your dear daddy is the cause of your being half-wrong." Her golden eyes drifted over the little filly's form until she was looking at her tail again. It certainly was not right nor was it as lovely as a long tail made of hair. Still, there was something fascinating about it. To think that such creatures existed. Some god must have gotten very mad at a cat long ago cut off it's tail and stitched it to a horse's bum. It was interesting in all that it was wrong.
She sighed and returned her gaze to the little one's head. "Perhaps he did not mean it at all. Perhaps he imagined that all his children would end up with lovely tails like your dear mummy." She smiled at her little "captive" and pat her gently with her wing a few times. She couldn't imagine any creature actually wishing for a tail like that. So it being an accident would be the only logical reason.

'Oh..' Mouse's lip wobbled even more and this time she actually cried, fat tears rolling down her indigo cheeks. How could her Daddy have done this to her? Half-wrong...it felt like a curse of the most terrible kind and she sniffed in a dejected fashion, allowing the mare to comfort her.
'What shall I do?' the little filly finally managed to say, hiccuping as she did so, her ears and whole posture drooping in her misery at her tail being all wrong. What could she do anyway? It wasn't like she could replace her tail..she'd been so proud of having a tail like her Daddy's before this point too!

Seraphia blinked gold lidded eyes a few times as she watched the little creature break. The poor little hopeless things. The gods did not always shine on their creations. They had completely abandoned this little one and it seemed no one had even told her before now. It was impossible to undo the stitching of a god. Even an angel couldn't repair something like that, Little Shadow was just going to have to live with the shame.
"What do you do?" She asked tilting her head to one side before pursing her lips together in thought. "Well...the obvious thing to do would be to find someone who would love you anyway." She nodded her head a few times then paused looking the little one over yet again. "But...who would have you as imperfect as you are?" The words were blunt but somehow her voice remained innocent and sympathetic.

'Mummy and Daddy love me..' Mouse replied in a forlorn fashion, wiping her face against one leg, leaving wet smears along her dark pelt.
'Is that not enough?' she asked, looking up at Seraphia, her eyes wide and still rimmed with tears that had yet to fall. Wasn't she too young to worry about that sort of thing anyway? If Daddy & Mummy loved her than that was all she really needed in life.
That and apparently a way to get a new tail..
