Marching through the woods Vaughn took notice of nothing really, his mind was a blank as he trotted through mud, water, and god knows what else. He just couldn’t believe it, his family his whole life all of his training just went down the drain and now he was left alone, to die. Growling Vaughn shook the depressing thoughts off, he knew it wouldn’t be that easy to rid himself of sadness but he had to try to keep his mind off of it somehow. Glancing around Vaughn could feel his stomach start to turn, how long had he been aimlessly walking through the woods? It seem to be about, well if the sun was mid way up then that means he had been walking all… night and then through the morning?
Huffing Vaughn shook his head roughly, no that couldn’t be right shrugging the thought off Vaughn slowed down listening in for any sort of sound to be heard from his future meal. Being trained his whole life Vaughn knew what to do, it was like a reflex now having full on practice with hunting and training it was almost like breathing. But not so much with the females, he might have heard his mother but he just didn’t have the strength and guts like his father did to being around females.

Aya wandered listlessly through the forest, lost in her own thoughts. She was managing to eat, to find somewhere to sleep but it wasn't really living, it was just survival. She missed her home, her pack, even her mate, may-he-writhe-in-torment despite the badness he had done her. Yes, even his goading, whining words would have been a comfort to her now, alone as she was. Inside though, deep down, she almost felt she deserved being alone like this - she had failed in her duty to her mate and pack. Failed to produce an heir, failed to give her mate the strong sons he craved.
A sigh passed her lips again as, distractedly, she picked her way through the forest. Maybe she'd eventually find others, be taken in, find a mate who was willing to live his life without young... maybe a widower who already had a healthy brood or two.
Despite her eagerness to meet others, it wasn't until she was almost upon him that her soft blue eyes met his similarly blue fur. "Oh!" was all she could exclaim for a moment. "Well hello there, darlin'!" she exclaimed, delighted to no longer be alone with her thoughts.

His father would be most displeased if he had could see Vaughn now, hell Vaughn’s father would have probably shunned him sooner if he had seen how careless Vaughn had been in his survival. Growling to himself Vaughn’s legs went straight up from the sudden female in his area making him fall flat on his back in embarrassment. NOW his father would kill him. Quickly enough Vaughn scrambled to get back up and put up a stance, or to at least get up right now because falling into a pool of mud wasn’t the easiest thing to get up from.
‘Great just great, I can’t deal with females already… Do I HAVE to make a fool of myself even more?’ Finally though Vaughn was able to get away from the mud and shake himself clean, “S-Sorry…” his voice cracked at the very thought of speaking to a new female he didn’t know… to any female really.

Aya watched as the flustered male lost his footing, struggled with the mud and came back up covered in the stuff - he was like an overgrown pup in his actions and she wondered if he wasn't perhaps quite a young male. A little of the mud spattered her as he shook himself clean but she rubbed it off and let out a soft, gentle laugh.
"Well honey, now what have you to be sorry 'bout? I guess I done scared you into fallin' over so ah think it's me who should be sayin' sorry" the red female's expression was kind, motherly and she tried to appear as unthreatening and unassuming as she could - it didn't do to go into another wolf's land and scare them half to death! "Are you ok darlin'? you still look a little shook up - I ain't a ghost".

Gulping Vaughn did his best to focus on his dirty fur that he could get clean, rubbing at certain areas that still had mud on them Vaughn did his best to try and remember what the female had said. Gulping again Vaughn glanced everywhere but the female, his body starting to shake a bit as he was doing his best to focus on the female. New goals in life reached! Finally he was able to look at the female!
“Um…” Gulp, “I’m… I’m just a little…” Cough, “It’s just… How I am…” Look away, look back, “Vaughn…?” Gesturing towards the female Vaughn did his best to ask a question, without really asking one. Alright he was doing good so fine, he wasn’t being too rude and he was in fact speaking to a female… In small doses.

Well, he really did seem to have a fire under him, didn't he? Was he so shook up at meeting another wolf because he was used to being on his own? Maybe that was it. The poor thing was shaking like a leaf, just look at him! "Oh, honey, there ain't no need for a big thing like you to be so worried bein' around me is there?" she smiled as reassuringly as she could. She wasn't a small wolf, but neither was she big, and the male in front of her was both taller and more muscular than herself. She couldn't really fathom the source of his discomfort.
"Vaughn? Is that your name, honey? It's a real nice one, I ain't never heard anyone called that before. I would be Aya, Vaughn, and I am pleased to make your aquaintance" she talked slowly, softly, almost as if to a child. She was beginning to wonder if maybe he was a little soft in the head - she'd known wolves like that before and knew one just needed to be patient with them.

Vaughn should feel his tail wag uncontrollable, it wasn’t that he was ‘soft in the head’ he just had problems around females, he blamed his mother. His shaking lessened though at the soft nature of the female before him, it helped a lot really. Gulping down more sudden saliva Vaughn let his almost liquid like back legs relax into a sitting position. This was better he was on the ground that’s good he couldn’t fall over, well he had a good chance of fainting but at least it wouldn’t be too far down.
“Aya? T-That’s a nice name…” Right yeah he says that? That’s good, good he’s doing good… ‘Good, just stay calm… calm down…’ Taking in a few deep breaths Vaughn glanced around once more. “I just, I have a small problem um… With-” ‘Should I tell her, she’ll probably think I’m pathetic… Urge but I am pathetic! This isn’t the time to fight with yourself.’
“I’m just easily intimidated by a… females?”

She waited as he wobbily sat down, still smiling and followed suit, arranging her tail comfortably about her feet. Whilst she had imagined all sorts of reasons for his discomfiture it seemed she had been way off the mark.
"Well thank you for saying so" she said, trying to hold in a giggle as to his reason for being so nervous. She didn't want him to feel bad and he was obviously genuinely upset. It didn't do to make fun of others. "There ain't no reason for you to be intimidated by me" she tried to assure him though, by the look of his nervousness, that probably wasn't going to cut it. She hadn't ever been around a male who was frightened of females, before.
A little intrigued by the notion, she had to ask. "Honey, is it that you are not used to there being women around you, or are you... otherwise inclined?" she tried to phrase it in a genteel manner, all the while trying to make sure her tone didn't sound like she was making fun of him.

“Otherwise inclined?” Titling his head to the side Vaughn met the eyes of Aya, she had soft blue eyes almost like a wave of fresh water splashing through your fur. It helped a lot to have such a nice and calming female be around him but his nerves were still a wreck on the inside.
He could feel his stomach start to turn in a direction that it shouldn’t be, “Um I don’t quite know? My um… I just really ahh… Umm.” How did he word this when he truly didn’t understand it himself? “My father raised me to believe that females have the ability to be stronger then um… males? And” Cough, “And um well, I’ve seen what alpha males can do…” Glancing around Vaughn shook at the memory of his father brutally attacking a female because she was too strong.
Suppressing the shiver Vaughn glanced back to Aya, “Thank you.”

"Oh..." was all he could manage for a moment. She didn't really like to speak ill of those she had not met and did not like to pre-judge them but Vaughn's father did not sound, to her, like a man she should like to meet.
"Well, honey, I've seen many females and males much stronger than myself, faster, too - but I don't see why strength should be any measure of a wolf anyways." No, not strength nor pup-producing ability, she thought to herself. "I can't say that I've found the actions of some leading males to be of a very good nature myself, lately, but I can't imagine that the whole world is like that. I won't." Her own troubles welled into her mind again, and for a moment those icy blue eyes showed some measure of pain.
"So did your daddy tell you not to be around females because they might do something bad to you, then, honey?" she asked, sympathetically - glad he was talking to her and wanting, almost instantly, to 'help' him towards overcoming that fear if she could.
"And there ain't no reason to thank me, sweetheart, I ain't done nothing but sit here."

A light laugh left Vaughn’s mouth, “Tell me to stay away… Ha, all my father wanted was for me to be the most noble of our pack.” He wanted to spit on his father’s name, wish he would have done that to him the day he left. Glancing downward Vaughn wondered, if he had the chance to go back and prove himself wrong would he?
Shaking the thoughts from his head Vaughn looked back to the female, he could see her own pain reflect through her eyes to her very soul. He didn’t know what happen to her but he knew that he could help her if she needed it, if she wanted it, he in fact her had the glaze to do it. “My mother wanted me to be the most perfect mate to a female wolf, and all the mean while my father was filling my head with what males could do… And all the mean while I was multiplying it for females.”
Shrugging Vaughn still didn’t believe it, he knew there was something deeper than that that fed his fear but he just didn’t know what. “But it doesn’t matter now that’s behind me.”

"Sounds like you had yourself in a bit of a pickle there to be puttin' it lightly" she said sympathetically. "The burden of bein' somethin' that others want from you is not always easy to bear and, by the sounds of it, it's good you've left that place behind you".
The red female's tail-tip wagged gently, a little thing which always started to happen when she began to feel comfortable anywhere. "Is that why you're out here alone, honey? To make a new start for y'self away from all that?".

Focusing on Aya’s eyes Vaughn’s gut almost dropped, he should have done that, he should have left stomped out on his family and been the hottest damn wolf there was. But he didn’t, he was such a pathetic wolf that he begged for his pack to take him back the moment he heard his father tell him off.
“No… I’m an outcast.” His voice dripped into that of a sad one, his fears forgotten and his previous life threatening to over take him. Quickly enough though Vaughn shook off the depressing thoughts, if he was out on his own he had to make sure that he didn’t get distracted by little things like depression.
“But don’t let that fool you, I’m as strong as an ox when it comes to survival.”

Aya's heart ached when he said he'd been cast out - it was so similar to her own hurt, so she felt it more strongly than she might otherwise have. "Well, honey, cast out or walkin' out, we all gotta make our way in this world and I'm sure as y'say, that you can take care o' y'self just fine."
She's seen the sadness, the hint of despair, before he'd covered it up with bravado. "But honey, we all hurt sometimes and you shouldn't be afraid to say as much". She took a deep breath, before adding "I didn't leave my own pack willingly, either, but sometimes people just gotta move on, right?".
At first, she'd felt a little sad, even depressed, but she was coming to terms with it, she thought. Anyways, here was another soul who had been cast out into the wilderness like she had - at least she wasn't alone. Even if she never saw him again after today, she'd still know there was someone, out there, dealing with the same issues.

Nodding Vaughn agreed with the nice female, this was easy enough to do she was really nice and calm and sweet… and pretty looking. Shaking his head Vaughn did his best not to think like that, he would never be able to have a family that way because of his fear of females so he should just be gay. At the very thought of being gay Vaughn felt a gag over take him.
Forcing the gag down Vaughn took in deep breaths, alright so being gay was out of the question but he should probably just focus on something that wasn’t so… gross sounding. At least him being gay was gross, not other gays… He didn’t hate.
Glancing back to the female Vaughn smiled, “Thank you, please tell me about yourself…” Bowing his head downward Vaughn did his best to be polite to the female even knowing his nerves are on end.
