Flora had taken to staying away from the meadows for a few hours at a time; and when she slept; a lot these days. It was hard to go out there; and see the boys that had once been so close to her heart; now not even notice her; or talk to her like they used to. She watched them get over their crushes on her; and move on to new females; as if she hadn't ever been there. She'd watched them look at her; and then turn away; as if they didn't know her. And it was getting harder and harder to wear that smile on her face; and feel ok; and be groovy; and be everything everyone else thought she was. She wasn't even sure if she could ever be like again; ever be that way again.
The only males in her life that had stuck by her; and hadn't treated her like she had some sort of sickness was Janus; Repo; and Kindle. One of the three liked her... but she hadn't turned him down yet; in fact... she was almost afraid to even think about turning him down... because then it would be just two.
Sure... she had her brothers; but Lawley was just now starting to come around... and it seemed like no matter what she did she always ended up mad and yelling at Robin. And it sucked. And it felt like all of these things were just piling on top of her; like she was being buried alive or crushed or something...
She let out a whimper and laid her head down in the flowers; taking in the sweet scent of them all. Even this place wasn't making her feel like she used to. Maybe there really was something wrong with her?

Kindle had noticed a distinct negative vibe in the forest as of late, and he wasn't sure why. It's as if everyone were nervous and angry...even though they weren't talking about it. He was worried. Usually this sort of thing was fixed by Flora's bouncing personality, but he hadn't seen her yet today either. It was unusual, and he wasn't going to let her just disappear.
Kindle walked the usual paths that Flora visited, but he knew where she had to be. He hoped his meandering had given her enough time to herself, that she was ready for his company.
Breaking through the tree line, he saw her lying with her head in the grass. "Flora?" he called out to her, hesitating to go any further in case she wasn't ready to talk.

Flora lifted her ears; and her eyes; but not her head. She didn't have to hide how she felt around Kindle. She didn't have to lie and say she was fine. Didn't have to keep in her thoughts about someone. She didn't have to worry about hurting his feelings... at least... she didn't think she did... except for that one thing... When it came to who she liked most.
She had to take a few minutes to actually work up the energy and lift her head to look at him; instead of just looking like a sad dog with big pathetic eyes. "Hi Kindle." She replied; a small... almost non-existent smile on her face. She'd been crying today; and it showed. Her hair had dried in odd sort of patched; and her eyes were red and slightly puffy even through the fur. She looked like a mess and she knew it.

He knew pain when he saw it, so Kindle quickly made his way over to Flora, lying down next to her. Even though she was barely smiling and looked like she had been crying all day, she was still the most beautiful thing he had ever seen, and his eyes softened as he looked at her.
"Honey, what's the matter?" He nuzzled her shoulder, trying to poke some cheer into her.

Flora sniffled when he laid down next to her; and she tried her best to not just break down and cry at the touch. She leaned into him heavily and wrapped her neck around him. She hated crying in front of anyone ever; no matter what. becuase then she felt that it made them sad too... but she could at least talk to him; just like she could talk to Repo... just like she used to be able to talk to Sommer.
"I don't have any friends anymore Kindle... All the boys I used to play with... all the friends I had... they've all left me. Once I told them I didn't like them like that... they left. They don't even come near me anymore. I hate it."

Kindle sighed and rested his head on her neck. He hated how everyone seemed to be turning on Flora... He didn't understand. "I'm sorry honey, people can be cruel sometimes... All I can say is that if they abandoned you because you didn't want to be their mate, then they must not have been very good friends." He replied, knowing it probably wouldn't help much.

Flora sniffled fighting back the tears and looked up at him sadly; a tear fighting it's way out of her eye. She wouldn't let it slide down into her fur; she wouldn't let it slide down into her fur; she wouldn't let it slide down into her fur.
She took in a deep breath and just sort of laid against him; an anguished look on her face. "Will you leave me if I tell you I don't want to be your mate?" She asked with a shaky voice. Not even sure if she wanted to hear the answer. It was hard enough to imagine him saying it to her; it was a whole other thing to actually hear someone say it to her.

Kindle could see that tear fighting to be seen, but he refused to let it out. "Oh Flora..." Stretching his neck he brushed that lingering tear away with his nose. "I already told you I wasn't going anywhere. It would hurt to find that you didn't love me, but I am man enough to stay. I made a promise to you... I won't break that." Tried to curve his body around her more, for comfort.

Flora let him curve his body around her own; and she laid her head on his back; curling it around his neck the best she could; keeping him as close as could; not wanting him to go; afraid that if she did; he really would leave her. She believed him when he said that he wouldn't leave her; more than she believed anyone else. And it hurt; becuase she didn't even believe her brother when he said he would spend more time with her. But when Kindle said it.... it felt like it could be true.
She sniffled and fought the tears back. "Don't ever leave me Kindle." She told him quietly. "Please don't... I don't think that... I'm the person you think I am... I don't even know what kind of a person I am... But promise me... You'll always be by my side... even if I'm not the person you fell for? Please?"
She practically begged; turning her head upwards to look at him; a sort of pleading look in her eyes. Needing to hear him say it; to see his mouth move and hear the words come out.

Kindle nuzzled her, trying to chase away the tears. "Honey, you are who you are. I fell in love with the everything that you are, you can't change enough to chase me away." Stares into her eyes, trying to convey how serious he is. "I am not going anywhere."

Flora seemed to be searching his eyes when he told her that. And whatever she was searching for she must have found it because she nodded her head; one or two tears slipping from her eyes and going into her fur. She curled up close to Kindle and stayed there for a few moments; not wanting to leave his side. Happy that there was someone who loved her so much; that was willing to be by her side even as she was crying; even as she was feeling sorry for herself; even as she thought bad things about others.
"Can we go do something?" She asked nervously; a bit of a whisper really. "I don't want to be sad...."

"Anything you want honey." Standing up, kindle does his best to brace himself for her to lean against. "Where did you want to go? I was thinking maybe the stream nearby, to wash away all the bad feelings for you." Playfully he nipped at her side, trying to startle a giggle out of her. He didn't like it when Flora was sad and he couldn't do anything to fix it. She wouldn't even tell him what was going on, and that was endlessly frustrating. How was he supposed make her world perfect if she hid what was hurting her?
"What do you think?" Kindle brought himself back to the present to make sure she did want to leave.

Flora stood with him and shook out her coat; as if doing that would shake off all of the bad things. When he nipped at her she looked up at him blankly for a moment. But it only took her a second to realize what he was trying to do. She smiled a small sort of smile and nosed at him slowly.
"I would like that a lot Kindle." She told him honestly; though she doubted that just going into a stream would really wash away the bad... But it was a sweet thought. Kindle was always being so sweet to her... She wished she wasn't so depressed all the time... maybe if she wasn't... Then she could have been happy with Kindle...
When he asked her what she thought of the idea she nodded her head; still a bit slow; all of her movements being sluggish lately. "I think... That you're the best friend I could ash for right now Kindle."

Kindle watched as Flora moved like she was underwater. He'd seen the affects of depression before, with his mother, and he hoped she was able to work through it soon. He hated not knowing how to help her, but if she needed to deal with it by herself, him interfering would only drive a wedge between them.
"You look like you need some food too Flora, food and maybe a nap after the swim. All of these things need to happen today." He was trying to be a little silly to cheer her up.
"I'll always be your best friend Flora, never worry about that." Stepping closer he nuzzled her, before moving to head towards the water, hoping to wash the bad feelings clean.

Flora nodded her head when he said all of these things... she did feel hungry now that she thought about it... and she probably really did need to bathe in the river or something... her hair was starting to become oily and dirty. Not that she really cared about what she looked like anymore; in her opinion is was her stupid looks that had started all of this anyways.
When he stepped close to her; and nuzzled her; she leaned against him and smiled a small almost unnoticeable smile as she closed her eyes for a moment at the touch. She missed being able to just nuzzle up to others... this was nice.
She followed after; really right at his side; as they walked to the water. She really liked how nixe Kindle was to her all the time. She wished others could be that nice... She sighed and her shoulders sagged slightly as she continued walking.
"You have no ides how much that means to me Kindle. Honestly." She told him; nuzzling into his side.
