The way Marion carried herself would get her thrown down with her belly in the air at half the packs in Telk. Her tail flagged proudly upward as she walked, and her head was drawn naturally high; it was clear, however, from her odd, uncoordinated gait and the goofy faces she pulled that she was generally unaware of the figure she was cutting. For all she knew, she looked like the soberest, bravest wolf on earth as she paced eagerly forward, bouncing thought after though off of her reflective new companion.

"It just seems stupid as hell to worship anything, right? I mean, as soon as you decide to put all your faith in shadows, light becomes your weakness. If you gain your strength from your family, you become powerless if something becomes of them." She dropped her head a moment to investigate some deer-scent hovering shoulder-height around a tree. "And I don't mean to say we should all try and eradicate all our weaknesses or anything, but, I guess I don't see what makes wolves bind themselves to a thing like that." She scowled, and directed an affable look at Kamiya, apparently ready to shut up for a few moments.

User Image Kamiya had never in her life come across a wolf that enjoyed hearing herself talk quite as much as the one that currently bounded along beside her. But then, she supposed, perhaps she was making up for years of lost time. Who was Kami to judge?

Her nose wrinkled. She'd never been much for philosophical discussion, and the whole business made her head hurt a bit. Kamiya had never been one to question things, or indeed to think overly much about anything; she was a wolf that lived on instinct and impulse.

Still, something about Marion's waxing-philosophical struck a particularly thoughtful nerve, and she couldn't help but consider the inquiry.

"Easy. People are cowards," she replied, with a shrug. "They need something more powerful than them to believe in, so that they don't have to take responsibility for their life."

Mars was coasting on a high, soaring above all that was dull, repetitive, boring. He'd found some of his favourite plants this morning, the ones which brought him to his happy place mentally, and he'd decided to take a wander whilst experiencing the effects.

Finding new stuff under the influence was something Mars loved - it seemed all the more exciting and awesome. He never wandered that far, of course, there was no point in getting tired just to find new stuff when everything seemed so much better with the little white-flowered plants.

The buzz was starting to wane, just a little, as he heard voices nearby. It wasn't gone, he was just getting to that lovely, chilled stage where nothing seemed like it could go wrong in the world. He looked around, trying to figure out where the voices where coming from. He was sure they weren't from inside his head, this time, that felt different.

((omg teh orange - I hope this is the right thread ^^; ))

((Yup, this is the place! :3))

Marion nodded seriously, her face slackening as she processed this information. "I guess that must be it," she replied, unable to stifle a small, superior grin. "Makes you feel a little powerful, doesn't it? Not needing the things that everyone else makes out like they need?" Grappling alone with these concepts of sociology and psychology, she failed to detect their drawing closer to the high-sailing Mars.

"Yes, extremely powerful," she replied, her tone somewhere between bored and sarcastic -- it was hard to tell, as the orange wolf was suddenly distracted. Brow furrowing, she paused in her tracks, nose to the air, nostrils flaring, ears folded to her skull. "Wait a sec." A scent was on the air, a wolf-scent...but one undercut with...some odd, floral odor. Unable to make heads or tails of it -- but figuring, as seemed generally the case around here, that it was due to some further Outsider Abnormalities -- she glanced around. "Hello?" She called, unafraid of danger; indeed, in most cases, Kamiya welcomed a fight. "Who's out there?"

Woah! Bright orange came at him all at once as he walked out of the brush and found the two females whose voices he'd heard. Seems one of them had noticed him as well and he gave her a lopsided grin as her voice floated over to him. The darker coloured of the two looked as though she could be related to him, almost; the other was a brighter shade than any wolf he'd ever seen - but both looked like sunny spots of happy brightness in his current mood.

"Well hello there chickadees!" he exclaimed happily. "Out there is the big wide world, but right here is Mars". He was pretty flamboyant normally, but when he was feeling the buzz it tripled his usual nature. "Can I have your names, or are you both shy girls?" his mischievous grin came along with a teasing tone to his words.

Marion's face furrowed almost comically as she was presented quite suddenly with a wolf who was quite possibly her doppelganger. And on top of that, this doppelganger was being so socially unconventional, even she could pick up on it! She continued to scowl in bafflement for a long second, unable to reconcile the act of being called a chickadee. Finally, as if drawn from a great depth, she found words to throw at this bright-eyed stranger. "...Mars, huh?" She took a little step forward, almost to the effect that she was protecting Kamiya, and lowered her head suspiciously. "You can have my name, but I'm not sure what you're going to do with it. I'm Marion." She kept him fixed with her slightly-too-serious gaze, waiting for some cue as to what to do with him.

Kamiya glanced between the two of them, brows raised, thoroughly not sure what to make of them. "Chickadee?" She echoed aloud, and looked a bit affronted. "At least it's not Sunspot," she muttered -- that was a nickname she wasn't quick to forgive. But nevermind that, just now. She looked again between them, allowing Marion to take the lead. "Kamiya," she added, peering over Marion's shoulder to examine the other wolf. There was something exceptionally 'off' about him, but she couldn't quite figure it out...intrigued, she fixated her alarmingly bright blue eyes on him, and fell silent. Marion was in such a rush to find a new social order...well, then Kami would just sit back and let her.

"Marion, eh? Even our names are alike" he said, assuming she also saw the resemblance in their looks. "You look like you need to relax a bit, Marion, I'm not gonna do anything with your name except remember it."

Similarly bright blue eyes then returned Kamiya's gaze, cheerfully. "If you don't like chickadee then I won't call you that but, hey, it's better than sweetheart or honey or whatever, right?" his smile was still open, welcoming, cheerful - Mars had never really had the wherewithal to be suspicious of others and his current mood wasn't allowing him to feel much buffeted by their slightly negative first impression of him.

"Didn't mean to bother you both either way, just figured that since you were passing by I'd come and say hello. I mean, what'd the world be like if everyone just stayed away from each other, right?". The other thing Mars had never known how to do, was shut up.

Marion was finding it difficult to remain suspicious in the face of Mars's unflagging, unaffected friendliness. Her scowl lost most of its intensity, and in the lull between strong emotions, her sense of curiosity began to pick up. "We're not bothered, really. Do you live around here? Are you related to a wolf named Wazaam?" Here her questions stopped, though she continued scowling inquisitively; she was trying to think of a way to ask why he was acting so...weird.

It was odd, really, Kami thought; the more time she spent here, in the outside, the more she thought perhaps the Kapu'Moana wolves had not perhaps been as insane as she had once supposed. Maybe there was something to the theory that all outsiders were in some way deeply deformed or disturbed or dangerous.

Well...this newcomer wasn't all that unlikeable, really. He seemed rather personable. There was just something indefinably...off...about him, and -- like Marion -- she was intrigued. "You smell like flowers," she remarked, not by way of insult, but of simple statement of fact. "But you seem nice enough," she said, aloud, either unaware or uncaring that her mouth-filter was not working; then again, Kamiya's mouth filter hardly ever worked. "Do you live around here?" She added, figuring the pair may as well bombard him with inquiries if he was so eager to talk. Following her question, she too demured, to allow him time to answer both of them, though her blue eyes looked over him intensely.

Well, they seemed cool enough, when they chilled out a bit, he thought. "I don't not live around here" he said. Realising that might seem a tad cryptic he added "I don't really live anywhere in particular or I live where I want. I can't be bothered with this pack mentality of settling down in one spot. How totally dull, right?". He hadn't really come across many pack wolves in his travels, mostly other lones, and so hadn't really had anyone tell him much about the 'good' side to pack living. Ever since he was tiny he'd been moved from place to place - his mother was a loner, a wanderer and she'd wanted her offspring to feel the same sense of freedom.

"It's good to stop and smell the flowers sometimes" Mars grinned at Kamiya. "I like to sit amongst flowers, sometimes - especially nice smelling ones". He came back to Marion's earlier question, though, as if sidestepping mentioning the flowers further. "I don't know any wolf called Wazaam, so I can't say if I'm related to them at all. Why, you looking for them?" It was Mars' turn to ask questions, it seemed.

Instantly charmed, the wolf-bear grinned at Mars; though her family was more than large enough to constitute a pack, she and her siblings all preferred to keep their worlds largely separate. She half-listened to the fellow croon about flowers, still thinking about packs, but perked up, and then scowled as he got back to her last question. "Seriously? God, I grew up getting told that every orange wolf you'd meet in Telk was some descendant of my uncle Wazaam, and apparently that's just complete bearshit." She huffed for a second, checked in with a glance to Kamiya, and got back to mining Mars for anything interesting. "So you've traveled all your life, huh? Where all have you been? What's the weirdest thing you've seen?"
PostPosted: Sun Jun 20, 2010 8:39 pm

Kamiya's expression was unwavering and unimpressed, but she remained silent. Marion seemed to be enjoying herself, she thought, and there didn't seem much harm in it. Glancing around, she waited patiently for the two of them to get their jollies out. She had never been one for small-talk, and it was only with immense effort that she avoided signs of total boredom.

She was learning to play nice. Really.

To keep herself busy, and to avoid interrupting Marion's gleeful barrage of questions, the orange-and-black wolf rose to her paws and approached the newbie, sniffing at him curiously, slowly circling him and examining him as though she'd never seen another wolf before.

"Well, I can't say fer sure I'm not related to him, I mean, I know my orange comes from my mom's side and the one thing she wasn't keen to talk about was her parents, so you never know, right?" Mars smiled a bit, wondering for a moment if he had some big, weird extended family out there that he never knew about. If he bumped into his mother one day he'd maybe ask her.

"Well, yeah, ever since I was a pup we've wandered all over. Soon as we could walk, my mom'd take us out on trips. Small at first but as soon as we were strong enough we just stopped going back to wherever we'd stayed for the last few nights" he grinned. Growing up had been fun, an adventure, and something he had enjoyed, looking back on it. It had given him his lust for life an new experiences, after all.

"I was born pretty far north of here, and we travelled south, inland and when I decided to head off on my own I went t osee the sea. You've seen the sea, right? It's awesome. Makes a great noise, but it tastes terrible!" he sniggered, remembering his first mouthful of seawater. "But the weirdest thing I've seen? Oh wow, uhm. I've seen a lot of weird crap - there was this one time I saw the sky, right, and it was on fire. Way up north, it was really cool looking."

"How about you guys, you travel much?" he included Kamiya in the conversation, though he was more interested in Marion's reply since she seemed a lot less stuffy than her brightly coloured friend.
