Discovering that she was a senshi was mind blowing yet neat at the same time, but came with the most annoying obligations. For example? Patrolling late at night when she could be catching some Z’s at the moment. Sure, fighting youmas weren’t too bad, in Sinon’s opinion. It was nice, to be given a purpose in this world (and she got feel like a badass hero at the same time). The problem was when some of these pesky creatures just wouldn’t freaking die.
Gritting her teeth out of frustration, Sinon circled a tree-like youma, eyes narrowed and flaming with anger. Just frigging die already, dammit!
She twitched and briefly closed her eyes. Calm down. Sinon wasn’t going to get anywhere if she was this pissed. Taking a slow, deep breath, she waited for one beat before springing forward, gloved hand pulled back into a fist. “Sinon White Lies!” she shouted out as her fist connected with one of its branches, thin threads that glinted in and out of visibility wrapping around the tree.

Dark red leaves shivered with excitement at the apparent frustration of the Senshi, as the tree-creature slowly turning on the spot so it could once again face the woman. “Your starseed shall be mine, yet…” seemed to escape from the youma with a series of low creaks and groans, accompanied by a strange cackling, rising with the night air. There was no visible face on this particular youma, and it was difficult to determine which way was front and which was back, save for when it moved to face its newly found victim. It was a sturdy creature; carefully bracing itself for each attack the Senshi tried throwing at it.
The next attack came before it was entirely ready, but to the youma’s delight, the woman made the mistake of not only making direct contact with it, but to try and bind it as well. Making contact with the monster did nothing to harm her, but like a Venus fly trap, the vine-like fingers closed in to grab onto whatever it could wrap around. Limbs, usually, and clothing, too, but if it was especially lucky, it could have very well wrapped its rough, bark covered extremities around its victim’s head or neck.
The same low cackling rose around the two again, but being so close to the creature, Sinon might be able to pick out that the noises it made, as well as it’s voice, came from within the bark, itself. “I have you, now…” whispered the youma in a groan. It wouldn’t be able to hold onto her for very long, but if she couldn’t figure out how to escape before it could unleash its second attack… well… guess they’ll see if her threads can hold up to being burned.

“Haha. Well, crap,” Sinon hissed, an eye twitching as its limbs wrapped around her mid-back. She had sincerely thought that one more close-range blow would have finished it off, but apparently she had either underestimated its defense or overestimated herself. Grimacing, she squirmed in the tree’s hold, moving her arms into a more comfortable position as she mulled over what to do next. Clearly irked by the youma’s words, she gritted her teeth and seethed, “Yeah, yeah. You keep saying that to yourself, buddy.”
She continued to wriggle and squirm in its tight hold, propping her feet and hands against its trunk and pushing with all her strength. Its prickly branches for arms dug into her back, chips and splinters from the wood dislodging itself into her clothes and scratching against her skin. Grunting, Sinon slowly began to slide below its arms, but highly doubted she would be able to escape before its nasty leaves would come floating down—and its foliage could seriously burn.
Hearing another girl’s voice, Sinon attempted to angle her head towards the voice, but was too entrenched in the youma’s arms to get more than a fleeting glance. “A tree with ******** hard bark as armor,” she added, still squirming.
As the stranger continued to calmly converse with the tree, Sinon could only assume that this was another senshi. “Hey, I know I’m new at this, but I still have some pride,” she grumbled.

A few vines snapped and withdrew as the Senshi struggled, but from those broken branches, new vines were already starting to bud forth. The vines still around the Senshi bound tighter around her, another low, creaking cackle emitting from the youma’s heartwood. Roots stretched along the pavement, seeming to search for cracks in the surface for it to dig into and lock down, clearly not planning on leaving any time soon.
At first it didn’t seem to hear the other women as she approached, but after a few lingering seconds it finally responded with another low groan that rose with the wind; “Two starseeds? I shall take yours, too… Yes…” but it didn’t seem intent on letting go of the Senshi in its grasps.
The tree-creature shivered in excitement again, but this time the shiver was accompanied by another action; several leaves broke off their branches to flutter to the ground. The first few that made contact singed the pavement black, the organic substance dissolving into nothing. The Senshi it had been fighting would have already known of this development, but was lucky enough to stay enough of a distance away to not be seared. This time… she was definitely close enough.

Sinon seethed as the vines around her began to tighten. She glanced at the branches that trapped her and then at what she presume to be the face of the youma. “You really are a creeper, did you know that?” she dryly remarked, cursing the monster for tightening its hold when she was so close to freeing herself.
She froze when she saw a red leaf gently dancing in the wind, fluttering to the ground and burning up upon landing. If Sinon looked around more she would have seen a couple other leaves floating about, but her current predicament made that difficult. Turning listless, her eyebrows furrowed as she wracked her brain for any ideas. Her gaze strayed to the vine that encircled her back, noting that they were thin, thinner than the main trunk anyways.
Talking . . . talking . . . Was that all the other senshi could do at the moment? Sinon pursed her lips. This was probably the truth, since she was deeply entangled in the tree’s branches. She would have to figure out how to get out on her own.
Preparing herself, she straightened her back and lightly tapped her fist against a vine. “Sinon White Lies!” The threads wrapped around the vines and branches, quickly tightening and becoming sharper, digging into the bark.

“Both… I shall have both…” creaked the branches in delayed response to the new arrival. Two was better than just one, after all. The youma prepared to shake down another cascading of leaves, wanting to finish off the Senshi in its branches as quickly as possible, but was taken by surprise at her sudden choice of attack. She was really going to try that trick again when the first time placed her in this very predicament?
The branches and trunk shook lightly, another low, amused groan releasing from the depths of the creature, but as it prepared to tighten its grip even further, the vine the thread was around snapped clean in two! In an attempt to regain its loss, it tried to grip onto another part of the woman, only for the branches to snap away again, twigs splintering and dropping to the earth. “No…!” hissed the tree, feeling its grand opportunity slip away as the Senshi renewed her attempt to escape, leaving nothing but broken sticks and branches behind her.
No matter: in just a minute’s time, the vines will grow back as new. It was already apparent that these two were Senshi, and therefore wouldn’t be running off any time soon. It would have another chance, proven by this first woman. Should they turn to leave, it would just have to go back to preying on the civilians of the city.

Hearing the satisfying crack of wood and vines, Sinon smirked. “Yeah, surprised? A well-placed attack can do wonders, really,” she answered, jumping to the ground once enough of the branches had cleared away. Her landing was rough, wobbling as she tried to regain her balance as soon as possible. Another down side to being senshi: dang boots weren’t exactly a walk in the park. Someone give back her comfortable sneakers!
Sinon hobbled away, flailing her arms and legs to avoid the leave that trickled down from above. She wasn’t going to be subjected to any burns, thank you very much!
Hearing the cry of another attack, she looked back to watch the youma become ensnared in a loop of energy. She smirked and stuck her tongue out at it. A little taste of its own medicine, eh?
“Oh, that’s alright. Gotta do what ya gotta do, right?” reassured Sinon. “Sailor Sinon, senshi of lies.” Staring back at Redaple, she crossed her arms and watched it struggle in the collar. “Any ideas? I can attack it, but I’m not sure if just a couple more hits of it will be enough. It’s pretty dang hardy.”

A hiss ripped from inside the bark of the youma, its newly forming vines thrashing out to try and grab hold of the Senshi, but she had already broken free. She may have been able to escape from Redaple’s grasp for now, but this tree wasn’t finished with them.
Branches and vines were growing back, fresh and green as the women regrouped, but soon the green was changing to brown as rough bark coated the sapling limbs, reinforcing them as they’d been before. The tree-creature twisted slowly towards the Senshi, its vine-like digits reaching up to try and wrap around the energy barrier that kept it stationary in its spot, finding the ring to be hard and impassable.
“You can not stay like that forever…" creaked Redaple, shivering to let a few more leaves drop from where they’d been attached to the branches. A couple of the bright red leaves made contact with the barrier, shriveling into black ashes on contact. The Senshi would eventually run out of energy, and when that happened the youma would become the proud new owner of their starseeds.

Sinon pretended that she hadn’t heard the youma’s groan, its words ringing a bitter truth. No matter how much she wished, prayed, or begged, the loop of energy wasn’t going to last forever. Something had to be done to the tree-like monster before the collar dissipated and the two senshi would be left to deal with a stubborn tree.
“Matches should work, yes, but I’m neither a smoker, a pyromaniac, nor whoever else would likely carry a match,” she answered, shoulders shrugged and hands in the air to show that she was item-less. Sinon frowned, unsure with the plan that the older senshi suggested. “Stealing?” she reiterated. Obviously, she wasn’t too comfortable with the idea, but desperate times called for desperate measures, right? “Just hold on, okay? I’ll be back as soon as possible,” reassured Sinon and ran off, frowning as she occasionally stumbled. More practice in these boots would be needed.
She glanced at the empty stores that lined the road, taking note of their names as she began to visualize a map inside her head. Thank God Sinon knew her way around most of the city. “A convenience store should be around here,” she mumbled, stuttering to a halt as she found one. Fingers wrapped around the door handle and she pulled with her might. “H-Hey . . . am I supposed to kick the door down!?” she nervously called out.

“Weak… you Senshi are all weak…” the youma groaned what could have been interpreted as a laugh as new vines continued to regain their length, changing from green to brown as bark coated the tree flesh. “You can not kill me… I will have you both before the night is over…” the bark creaked, a shake of its foliage loosening several more leaves from their home, cascading down and leaving scorch marks along the pavement, but those that landed among the branches of the creature retained their shape.
While it had no need to move, it began unearthing its rooty feet from the cracks in the asphalt, slowly shifting forward for its vines to wrap around the barrier again, attempting to rip it apart, but managing to break off a few of its new appendages in the process. The collar around it was strong; however, the Senshi was already starting to sweat. “Can you not take the heat…?” it mocked, its crackling voice swelling with amusement at their so far failed attempts to bring it down.
“Surrender your starseeds to the Queen of Earth…”
