Today was the day. They'd both been given some time off on their guardian duties and so they'd get to spend the whole day together, completely untroubled by duty or anything else.
Hopefully, no Goddess would come dropping in on them like it had during their first 'official' date. Since that day they had indeed met and shared some time together, watching the sky transform from day to night before their very eyes.
And he knew - as he had always known - that he loved her dearly and that he was committed to her for all time. Even if his brother did come here someday, he stood not alone. What could Hala possibly do to him here? He'd try to shoot off his mouth, maybe, but Makhi would not believe him. All would be well.
He'd arranged to meet her by the oasis and he quickened his pace so as not to be late. In his mouth he carried a bright flower that he'd plucked from one of the small cactuses that grew in a scattered fashion across the lands.
It was his gift to her.

Makhi bowed her head to the cool waters not long after reaching the Oasis where she would be meeting back up with Altair today, taking a slow drink before moving to settle herself in the shade of a palm, not wanting to get over-heated while waiting for the male. Honestly, she was quite curious as to why he'd called her here like this. Was he wanting another date perhaps? The thought easily brought a smile to her lips.
Their first date had gone... In an unexpected direction, but those that followed it had been absolutely wonderful. Then again, they could have been complete disasters and she still would have enjoyed them since she got to spend more time with Altair regardless...
Smile on her lips, she contently settled on her stomach, laying her head down onto her paws as silver eyes slid shut.
Perhaps a nap was in order during her wait...

He spotted her lying on the sand, dozing perhaps? Oops, had she been waiting long? That wasn't romantic, was it? Keeping her waiting! He hurried his paws to close the distance between them, his breath ragged from carrying the flower in his mouth. It was a nuisance, but it would be worth it, to gift it to her and...and...
He shook his head, slowed as he got closer and padded quietly over to her. Then, setting the flower down so he could speak, he lowered his head and quietly spoke;
"Makhi? Makhi, I'm here. Sorry to keep you waiting, love."

Her ears perked up at the sound of his voice, eyes reopening quickly as she let her head raise up to gentle nuzzle at his chin. " Altair.. Don't worry, I haven't been waiting long. How was your morning beloved? " She murmured to him sweetly, not noticing the flower waiting in the sands since her attention was solely on the male standing over her.
He seemed oddly nervous, for some reason. Though also happy so it didn't seem to be a bad thing? Still she couldn't help but feel some worry about what may be bothering her beloved today.
It certainly couldn't have been something on patrol, since they were both off today. An earlier encounter perhaps? Either was she didn't ask him about it for now, trusting him to tell her as she pushed up to her paws.

He purred at the contact, glad that he hadn't kept her waiting too long. That would have been awfully rude and not the best thing to do on such a day as today. In any case, she seemed her normal, sweet and beautiful self. His heart pounded with the love that he felt for her. He touched his nose gently to hers and smiled with such tenderness there was no confusing the emotion there.
He loved her so much.
"My morning was well." He replied smoothly. "Yours? Have you been relaxing?" He knew she worked very hard. Too hard, sometimes. He, too, maybe. But today was a day for them. "Ready for an afternoon with me?" He smiled, slightly teasingly.

She chuckled out softly, her smile widening as she dipped her head in a nod. " Mine has been quite peaceful, yes. Every so often it's nice to simply take a day to relax and enjoy good weather. "
Being able to relax and enjoy it with him just made it that much better...
" I'm more than ready to spend the rest of the day with you. " She purred, giving another nuzzle before stepping back to peer at him with curious amusement. " Did you, by chance, have something special in mind, Beloved? "

He chuckled, amused at how easily she had guessed that today was not just going to be like any other day. She knew him too well!! In any case, since she hadn't yet figured out exactly what he was going to do - or not yet, anyway - he figured he'd best do it now before the surprise was ruined.
He sat and, with one paw, lifted one of her own forepaws gently up. He lifted his eyes nervously to look at her, feeling them shift from her eyes and then back again. He cleared his throat and, after a pause, he spoke again.
"I did have something special in mind, love." He replied, his voice sounding almost as if it didn't belong to him. "Madhu-Makhi...my friend...my love...my life. I...I wanted to ask whether you would...whether you would want to spend the rest of your life with me and..."
He paused, shook his head and then, finished up quickly before his nerves got the better of him. "Will you marry me?"

She blinked in confusion when he sat like that, taking her paw her head tilting in curiosity as he lover began speaking. He seemed even more nervous than before. And she soon understood why as her mercury eyes grew wide. This... She couldn't even have imagined this coming, staring at the male before her in shock.
She knew he loved her, and vice-versa. Knew they practically lived as mates already. But she hadn't even thought of him asking her this particular question yet, and it completely threw her for a loop. Slowly, her eyes half shut as they began to water with tear, pulling her paw out of his so that she could throw both around his neck and press her cheek tight against his.
" I-... Altair... Of course I will! " She said in a rush as she clung to her mate. " There's nothing in this world I would want more than to be wed to you! "

"Really?" His word came out as a surprised, emotional squeak and, suddenly, he returned her embrace, holding her as if afraid he might lose her if he let her go. "Oh, Makhi, you make me so happy. I owe you so much. I just...I loved you from the moment we met, though I didn't know it."
He held her tighter, pressing his face against her neck. "I will be at your side forever. I promise you that."
And, at the last moment he realised that he'd not yet given her his gift. He leaned slightly to reach the flower and, held it up to her.
"For you."

Her smile only widened as she pressed her face into his thick mane after accepting the gift. " Oh Altair.. I love it.. And I love you.. so much. " She murmured against him, content to stay in his arms for as long as she could.
" My promise is the same.. Forever, as long as you want me, beloved. " She said softly as she finally pulled back to peer up to him, her tears having stopped a bit.
" Thank you... "

To be this close to someone...to trust them, to love them...it was an amazing emotion, one of which he was grateful for. So grateful. Life without love was meaningless, he had come to realise. And true love, it was hard to come by. But it was worth it.
He closed his eyes and breathed in her scent, never wanting to forget this moment. Such a tender and beautiful thing.
"There will never be a day when I wouldn't want you, my love. Never."
And he meant it.
