Kafil walked slowly through the tall grass, his head low and his eyes staring at the ground intently. Today was particularly hard for him. It wasn't particularly hot, he had food in his belly, there was no real reason for him to look this upset, at least to an outside observer.
Everything was falling apart.
His daughter had a brand new litter of pups, which on it's own was hard enough for him, but the father of that litter was someone he had thought was his friend. No, he still was his friend but... He couldn't look at him the same way any more. What's more, is that this friend of his was a wanderer, he didn't stay with the pups. It reminded him of himself, though he knew that Nimhglas didn't do it for the same reason. He came back to visit sometimes, which made Kafil feel just that much worse about what he had done. Even though Loko o Ka seemed to be forgiving him for abandoning her and her mother, he wasn't sure if he could ever forgive himself.
He sighed, continuing to walk as the memories of his first love raced through his mind. He could not bear to see her again, but he still had a place in his heart for her. Part of him knew that he had to move on, but he was terrified of making the same mistake again and losing someone he loved due to his own cowardice.

Lawalawa couldn't help but grin as she watched a butterfly land on a flower in front of her. Starting out in a lounge, she had quickly rolled over into a crouching position as she saw the brightly colored insect flutter near her. Part of her wanted to swat at it and jump on it, but her love for small adorable things prevented her from doing so.
Sucking in air, she let out a big burst, blowing the butterfly from its perch back into the air. She playfully snapped after it, but had no intent to actually harm it.
Staring after it as it fluttered away, Lawa swished her thick tail to the side, creating a nice breeze in the heat. She was feeling perfectly perfect, having no recollection of anything before that fateful night so many moons ago when she just woke up. She felt a bit strange, not really knowing who she was, but she didn't want to linger on the sadness of the past.
Closing her eyes and humming a happy tune, she bounced along, heading in no particular direction. Anywhere was good to her, although finding a more permanent home would make her life feel a little more stable. But until that day came, all she could do was wander around, humming her little songs and playing with butterflies.
(( Really sorry this took so long. D8 ))

Kafil continued to walk and sulk for a few moments before a brightly colored creature flashed into his peripheral vision, causing him to look up. He saw that the hyena appeared to be... Bouncing? Surprisingly, it was not a pup bouncing along, but a full grown adult.
Why on earth would a grown hyena be doing such a silly thing? He had only known one other who behaved like that...
He sighed and tried not to think about it, wandering over closer to the female. He knew it was his duty to try to recruit her to the pack, regardless of how he was feeling at the moment.
"Excuse me, miss?" He called, just barely loud enough to be heard from the distance he was at. "Are you from around here?"
((Don't worry about it dear <3 ))

Opening her eyes to the sound of another voice, Lawa looked around. Her ears were up, and as soon as she found the source of the voice, she grinned. He was brown, and had such pretty hair. Padding closer to him, she swished her tail back and forth, humming a small, happy tune as she made her way closer to him.
"Nope, not from anywhere." Smiling, her blue eyes were bright as they stared at him. He looked a little older, but it didn't really phase her. After all, she didn't even know her own age. "Why, are you?" While it wasn't really important, maybe he could point her away from something bad in the area. Who knows, but it was better than just sitting in silence.

Kafil tilted his head at the female, puzzled. How on earth could one be from nowhere? "Do you mean you're a wanderer?" He asked, "Surely you have to be from... Somewhere..." He shrugged, deciding it wasn't really worth it to pry. The way she looked at him though... So happy and carefree... It brought back memories. He didn't want to think about it.
"I am, yes." He nodded toward the valley not too far away. "My pack lives there in the valley." He tried to sound casual but his voice was extremely uncomfortable. Far too much on his mind right now and he didn't really want to talk but he didn't really have much of a choice. If his daughter found out that he was just passing up good opportunities to recruit, she wouldn't be thrilled with him. "We're a new pack, but we're friendly. I mean, you can join if you want but if you don't want to we won't chase you off our land or anything like that."

"I suppose I'm a wanderer, but..." Looking up at the sky, she tried to think back, but all that came to her was darkness. "...I can't really remember." She laughed, thinking that it must sound quite foolish for someone to not be able to remember anything from their past.
"So you're part of a pack, huh? Sounds quite...interesting." She had never been a part of a pack- after she 'woke up,' she had to take a crash course on her life from the kind family that had saved her from whatever it was that had given her this amnesia.
"I don't think I've ever seen a pack before." Staring at him, she couldn't really think about what kind of pack someone like him would be a part of. "What's it like?" Grinning, she hoped that he'd tell her the details- and who knew, maybe she'd find something she liked about it.

A slight scowl appeared on his face for a moment before he caught himself and did his best to put on a halfway friendly face. "I wish I could do that." He shook his head. "I wish I couldn't remember my past." He didn't even think of the fact that it may be best unsaid, but he didn't care. Maybe it was better to talk about it anyway? Even if it hurt...
"Never been in a pack, huh?" He shrugged, "It's better than being on your own, I can tell you that much." While he didn't particularly enjoy the company of the other hyenas, he had to admit that there were many advantages to having numbers on your side. "You don't have to worry about pups so much, because someone is always watching them for you if you're out. Food is never short, because someone is always hunting."
He tilted his head slightly as he thought of the best way to describe his pack. "We are a pack of peaceful hyenas who enjoy learning and knowledge rather than brute strength." He nodded, "All are welcome, so long as they are willing to work for the good of the group. Carry their own weight, you know?"

"You know, memories are more important than you give them credit for." Giving a small smile, she knew that even if she had bad memories, it'd be better than living in this existence with just a blank space. It really tore at her, thinking that maybe she had forgotten something really important, or someone she once loved.
"Well, I don't think I'd need a nanny service." Laughing, she found it a funny thing to mention, especially since she was all by herself. "You know, all of those things sound like something I don't need. But somehow, I like the sound of it." In truth, she probably didn't need a pack. She could hunt for herself, and she was never in any real danger. "Because I can make memories there." Looking at her paws, she had a faint smile on her maw. It could be the best opportunity for her to finally be something-someone.
"Learning and...knowledge?" Looking a little dumbfounded, she had never heard of a group of hyenas that would be into stuff like that. "I don't think I'm that much of an intellectual." She laughed, but it was quite true- she had always been someone who followed their heart and didn't really think too much about it.

Kafil remained silent momentarily. He knew that it must be hard for someone to be unable to remember things, but he truly did believe that not remembering the pain would make his life easier. His past haunted him constantly, and he'd give almost anything to be rid of that. "Perhaps you are right, but maybe not." He shook his head, "What if you were full of nothing but painful memories all the time? What then?"
He couldn't help but give a small smile at her. She certainly was happy. "Memories really are important to you..." He shook his head, "I suppose you must do what is important to you. I can only hope that you make good memories, and not bad ones." He paused again. "Then again, this pack has given me some of the only good memories I have." He smirked, "I think you'd like it."
"Not everyone in the pack is." He shrugged, "Those are traits that will get you a high rank, but we will not turn any away who are willing to become part of the family." Family.... He growled softly at the thought. His relationship with his family was so complicated, he didn't know what to do about it. "Or at least... Well, you know what I mean." He suddenly sounded less eager to talk once again, shifting uncomfortably for a moment before sitting down and staring at his toes.

"If it hurts, than it means you care." Still smiling, Lawa looked up at the sky. swishing her tail back and forth behind her. "Because at some point, those memories were filled with love. Wouldn't you hate to forget that love, even if it ended up hurting?" While she couldn't comment on his life, she knew that a feeling of love and happiness was worth it, even if it turned to hurt later on.
"They are!" Moving her front paws right next to each other, she grinned as she looked down. She had made sure to take such care in remembering everything, so she'd never forget anything from her 'second life.' "But hey, you're making memories with me, right?" Lawa only hoped that this was a happy engagement. Little things like this always made her smile when she looked back on them.
"Family, hm? I think I'd...love it if you would accept me as part of your family." Her smile shrinking a little, she didn't even know if she wanted anything to do with this pack, but the mere thought of having some sort of family made it so attractive to her.

"I guess there's that." But what was so great about caring anyway? All it usually did was cause him more hurt... "I can't say for certain..." He paused to think. Would he rather have not met Zua? Or ever known his family? "I suppose you have a point. I wouldn't trade those little moments of love for anything." He sighed. Those little moments of love were really all that kept him going.
"I suppose I am." He managed a small smile. At least making memories with someone like this would be... Bearable, at the very least. Hopefully better than that if he could get out of this depression. "Here's hoping that your new memories are as good as the old. Better, even." As much as he tried to deny it, the positive, sunny attitude of this female was appealing to him. She reminded him of his first love... And every time he tried to push that from his mind it just came up again, stronger than before. Perhaps it would be worth opening up to this female.
"We would love to have you as a part of it." He grinned, but then frowned again for a moment, suddenly realizing that they had not yet been properly introduced. "My name is Kafil, by the way."
