So I went to feed my bettas this morning, and I open up the container of food, and it's just filled with all these little itty bitty white bugs crawling around in it. which really grossed me out. And I got kind of freaked out, because what if it was harmful to my fishies?
of course, I didn't feed them the food and I just threw the container away and I'm going to go buy some new stuff later today when the aquarium store opens, but still...
Do you know what that is? And a way to prevent it?

My best suggestion is to make sure to always screw the lid to the food on TIGHT, and keep the container out of humid conditions.

Sounds like the food spoiled. It happened to me a few times too, but I never lost a fish to it. If you live in a hot and humid place, store the food in the fridge. And as Ammonia suggested, make sure the lid is on tight.
If you keep having this problem try swiching to frozen food, or make your own fishfood: Hatch brineshrimp, cooked pees and carrots, cooked egg yolk (though not too much and only once in a long while), snails, cucumber and zucchini, and if you feel like dealing with the hassle antfarms (eggs) and mosquito larva.

Just happens when food spoils, often times. Irrlich AND Ammonia Spike posted a wonderful post about alternatives and ideas. ^^

I always thought live food was better?
Just kidding, it was just an insect infestation. Someone at the food packaging plant must have messed up. I'd return it and ask for a new one.
