It had been a difficult decision for Kai to venture away from the pride lands, even for the short period she had planned. There was a rumor spreading about someone from her past, and she wanted to at least check it out. It didn't seem to be too far away, either, so it made her feel just a little bit better about going out. And maybe if she brought back a large kill, the others wouldn't notice too much. Not that she had many friends.

Padding along, the small lioness had been walking since dawn. She wanted to slip out early and make good time while it wasn't so hot out. The spots that spread across her back seemed to roll when she walked, her skin gently sliding over her slender body. There were times when she really disliked how small she was, but her older brother had always told her that it made her more feminine, and that she'd find a suitor one day because of them.

Whatever.

She hardly listened to a word he said when she was a cub. Growing up with all brothers made Kai more of a tomboy. Even in adulthood, she had retained her love for sparring and fighting, but rarely had the chance to do so. And as she was just barely an adult, she wanted to make her life a little more...romantic. No one liked the tomboys at this age, and she wanted to at least make the memory of her brother proud by being someone he saw her as.

Coming to a stop, Kai looked around, sighing at the dismal sight of no one. She had smelled something, though, and it put her a bit on edge. She worried if she had entered a pride, but she would've definitely noticed if she had walked into a pride. Maybe one was nearby?

(Sssssh, he's a rogue really xD)

...That hadn't gone well.

First, he'd managed to piss his mother off so much she'd decided he wasn't her son anymore. Which made Hiari rather sad - he loved his mother. She just...had such high hopes for him. Hopes he could never achieve even if he tried his best - he just wasn't as smart as his twin brother. Hiari wasn't afraid to admit it. His strengths lay elsewhere...but his mother hadn't been able to accept that. Hiari sighed - he hoped she'd forgive him, someday.

And now he'd managed to lose his sister. Since leaving the Tianxia they'd decided to only use their common names, out of courtesy for the pride they'd grown up in. So the lioness he'd known as Ping all his life was now Siyo - and lost. He was furious with himself, having wanted to protect his younger sister. But she'd wandered off, he'd gotten distracted, and a rockslide later she was nowhere to be seen. All alone, in the rogue lands...he hoped she was alright.

Not noticing the dark shape up ahead that was another lion, Hiari merely continued forwards, head held low. He was such a failure.

Deciding the scent wasn't anything too pressing, Kai cautiously started forward again. It had made her paranoid, bringing up memories of when that evil lioness stalked her family when she was younger.

But she wouldn't let herself be frightened. She was a Firekin, after all, and had proven herself worthy of the title. Thinking about the day she was allowed into the pride, she smiled. It was an accomplishment that had really made her feel worth something, since she had seemed to fail at finding her brother's killer.

Coming to a stop, Kaishori swiveled her ears. Now that wasn't nothing. Just a little ways away, she saw the dark figure of another lion. He looked like one of her pride, but she could never be certain. He wasn't as bulky as most others in her pride, but Kai herself was rather small.

Flicking her tail, she stood her ground, edging closer to the other lion. "Excuse me, but are you from this area?" She called out to him, trying to sound as nice as possible. He didn't look very threatening, but good impressions were a must in her book.

Huh, what was that?

Frowning, Hiari glanced in all directions, pivoting on the stop and turning several times before he finally found Kaishori, a little taken aback. Had she been there the whole time? ...He really needed to learn to be more observant. She could have been dangerous or something. The pale-eyed lion recounted in his head what she'd asked - was he from this area? Well, not really. He and Siyo had been travelling a few days before they'd been separated, so they were at least a day or two's strong walk from the Tianxia pride.

"...No," he finally replied after much thought, not sure whether he should approach her, back away, turn and run...he'd never been in this sort of situation before. "...I'm Hiari," he eventually blurted out, finding it strange not knowing the lioness' name. He hoped she'd offer hers in return.

Oh. Well that wouldn't help her at all.

At least he was nice, though. Or so he seemed, which made her think that he probably wasn't Firekin.

"I'm Kaishori." She stared at him for a good while, figuring out what to do next. She didn't really want to up and leave, because that would be rude, but she was really stuck in the conversation.

"You wouldn't happen to be....a Firekin, would you?" Better to be safe than sorry. If he wasn't, that was that, but if he was, then they'd have something in common, and maybe they could become friends. At least, that's what Kai hoped for.

Kaishori? He smiled - a strong name. Lions out here only had one name, didn't they? Well, there were like...nicknames and stuff, but not two completely separate names, like their had been in the Tianxia. It honestly made the large lion a little sad, to know he woulded be called Zhen Shi again.

"A Firekin?" he repeated, forehead furrowing in confusion. "I don't...think I am? What's a Firekin?" he asked, tilting his head to the left. Was Firekin a pride, like the Tianxia? "I'm from the Tianxia pride - or, uh...I was." His cheeks reddened in embarrassment, "My...my mother threw me out after I told her I wanted a be a warrior."

"Oh..." Looking a tad disappointed, Kai knew that if this male didn't know what the Firekin was, he definitely wasn't one.

"Well, I'm from a pride of....proud and fierce lions. The Motoujamii-Simo." Grinning, Kai had a certain glint in her eyes. She wasn't born there, and it made her even more proud knowing that she had beaten a member to gain access to the pride.

"I don't think I've ever heard of that pride." Staring at him with slight wonder; this other pride sounded kind of odd. "What's it like?" Smiling, she wasn't just going to sit there and be ignorant of where he had come from.

"Threw you out?" Taken aback, Kaishori had never heard of such a thing. "That's not really how family should act towards one another." Her own family had been so close, it seemed quite alien to her. And for such a silly reason, too!

Proud and fierce? iari frowned, slightly bewildered and...intrigued. It sounded similar to the West House of Tianxia, the house he'd wished to join as an adult. She hadn't heard of his pride, and he hadn't heard of hers. Africa was so huge!

"It's kinda divided - like there's the main house, and then the four houses of the directions. North, South, West, East." He frowned, making sure he'd gotten them all. He shrugged at the mention of his family. "My mum's very proud, and I didn't fit in the perfect image. I don't hate her, just sort of...wish she could have accepted me for who I am. I'm a fighter, not a smart...lion."

"That sounds...complicated." Laughing a little, she couldn't really imagine a pride with so many different sections. Why couldn't they all just be in one section together?

"I don't think parents should let their pride get in the way of family. It's just...not right." Kai had grown up in such a close family, where it didn't matter what she or her siblings had wanted to be, they all just loved each other and accepted each other.

"Well, I guess it's just a different sort of life, right?" Smiling, she knew that everyone had different upbringings and views on how life should be lived, and she wouldn't criticize it any more.

"A fighter?" Perking up at the mention of it, she smiled. "You sound like you'd fit in perfectly with my pride! I mean...that's how I felt before I came to the Motoujamii-Simo." Grinning at him, she would love it if he joined her pride. "I mean, you could really be yourself there, and everyone would embrace you for it."
